Ever since his return to WWE programming two years ago, SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon has played the ultimate babyface role, while sister Stephanie continues to play the evil heel boss to perfection—but that could change very soon.

The idea of Shane-O Mac turning heel right now seems ludicrous. He’s feuded with many of the top heels, including Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and others. But according to Cageside Seats, “the current angle with Shane McMahon going overboard with his punishment of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn could be to turn Shane heel.”

With WrestleMania 34 just around the corner, WWE could be turning McMahon heel as they build him up for the big show. Assuming McMahon does turn heel, this could shoot down previous speculation from Cageside Seats about a ‘Mania storyline featuring Stephanie and Triple H feuding with Shane and Kurt Angle.

That is, unless WWE decides to turn McMahon (and possibly Angle or even Daniel Bryan), heel while making Triple H and Stephanie the babyfaces. It would be a complete 360 change, but the creative team may decide it’s time to shake things up a little bit. It wouldn’t exactly make sense if all authority figures were heels, after all.

If a Shane McMahon heel turn is in the works, it’ll be interesting to see when it happens – and how it goes down. Will he decide to team up with Owens and Zayn and form a new power alliance? Could he screw over AJ Styles at Clash of Champions and help Jinder Mahal regain his WWE Championship?

WWE will start building up for WrestleMania soon, and with the Royal Rumble less than two months away, we can expect new storylines to emerge soon. Perhaps one of those storylines will feature an epic and unforeseen Shane McMahon heel turn.

Stay tuned. We should find out over the next few weeks.
