Many fans and wrestlers consider "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels to be the best all-around in-ring performer in WWE history. He could sell like no one else and could make even a bad wrestler look like a million bucks in a match. When competing against the best in the world, no one was better in the ring.

It might be surprising to learn that he was not as successful title-wise as others before or after him. He only won thirteen total titles in his career, although two of them were relinquished almost immediately, leaving him with eleven titles he actually defended. Here is a look at every title reign of two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee Shawn Michaels' career, ranked.

13 WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPION (1990 & 1995)

There are two titles listed here because neither one was a legitimate title reign. The first came at The Main Event IV, where The Rockers beat the Hart Foundation for the WWF Tag Team Championship. However, WWE chose to pretend the title change never happened, and the Hart Foundation kept the titles.

The second came at In Your House: Triple Header, where Michaels and Diesel beat Yokozuna and British Bulldog, who was substituting for Owen Hart. Since they defeated Bulldog, the decision was reversed one night later since he wasn't the champion.

12 WWE CHAMPION (1997)

If you want to know why Shawn Michaels likely didn't win as many titles as others in his era, look to his reign as the WWF Champion in 1997. Michaels beat Sycho Sid at the Royal Rumble for his second world title and only held it for 25 days.

However, this is when he "lost his smile" and announced that he was going home, forfeiting his title. The truth was that Michaels didn't want to lose the title to Bret Hart, so he just took his ball and went home.

11 INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION (1995)

The "lost my smile" moment wasn't the only time that Shawn Michaels quit as a champion. It also happened two years earlier in 1995. Michaels had just beaten Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental Championship and was still one year away from his ascension to the world title.

WWE wanted Michaels to lose to Shane Douglas, but he refused, so they pulled an angle where he was attacked at a night club, and Douglas won by forfeit.

10 WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPION (1994)

While Michaels and Diesel had the non-title reign as tag champs, they did have a legitimate run as well. In 1994. at a house show, the Two Dudes with Attitudes beat the Headshrinkers for the belts. They held them for 87 days, and in typical Shawn Michaels form, they did not lose them. WWE stripped them of the titles when they couldn't get along with each other.

9 WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPION (1997)

In Shawn Michaels' career, he ended up feuding with every single person he held the tag team titles with. In 1997, it was with Stone Cold Steve Austin. The team was short-lived and, like so many other title reigns, did not end with them losing the titles.

Instead, after Michaels made the "Sunny Days" comment about Bret Hart, the two got into a legit fight backstage, and Michaels left WWE for a short time, vacating the titles.

8 WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPION (2007)

In 2007, Shawn Michaels was a completely different person. However, he gave a slight heel turn when it came time to deliver a WrestleMania performance against John Cena, the biggest babyface in WWE. To lead to this, the two men won the tag titles from Edge and Randy Orton. They went on to fight at WrestleMania and then lost the tag titles one night later.

7 WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPION (2009)

Shawn Michaels' most famous tag team partner was Triple H, and the two men only held the tag team championship one time, later in their careers. This came in 2009 when Degeneration X teamed up to beat Chris Jericho and Big Show for the titles in a TLC match at the TLC PPV. They held them for 57 days before losing them to Big Show and Miz in a triple-threat elimination match.

6 EUROPEAN CHAMPION (1997)

Do you remember the WCW Fingerpoke of Doom that many fans feel was the start of the downfall of WCW? That was when Hulk Hogan poked Kevin Nash in the chest and then pinned him for the world title. Well, WWE had one of those. Shawn Michaels beat British Bulldog for the European Championship and held it along with the world title. When Sgt. Slaughter forced him to defend it against Triple H, he laid down for his buddy, and both men were champions.

5 INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION (1993)

Remember the two times that Shawn Michaels quit because he refused to lose his title? Those were not the only times he gave a title up without taking a pin. In 1993. Michaels was on a tear. He had held the IC title for 113 days in his second reign as champion.

However, things went wrong when he was suspended for a positive steroid test. Luckily, Shawn made up for it when he returned at WrestleMania X with his title and tore the house down with one of the first ladder matches in WWE.

4 WWE WORLD CHAMPION (2002)

When Shawn Michaels dropped his WWF World Championship to Stone Cold Steve Austin, HBK retired due to severe back injuries. Thankfully, he returned a few years later healthier than ever and finished out his career in a more respectable manner.

He even got one more world title win in 2002. HBK beat Triple H for the world title at Survivor Series and held it for 28 days. However, it was proving he was far from finished, which made it special.

3 WWE CHAMPION (1997)

In 1997, Shawn Michaels won back the WWE Championship in the most infamous way ever. He won this title in the Montreal Screwjob. Despite how he won it, Michaels had one of his best title reigns. He held it for 140 days, built Degeneration X into a force, and then lost his title the right way. Stone Cold Steve Austin pinned him in the middle of the ring to start the next generation of WWE.

2 INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION (1992)

Shawn Michaels' Intercontinental title reigns almost all ended badly. He refused to defend one title against Shane Douglas and was suspended during another. However, his first title reign was important as it proved Michaels was a legit star as a singles wrestler. He won the title from British Bulldog on Saturday Night's Main Event XXXI and held it for 202 days before dropping it to former partner Marty Jannetty.

1 WWE CHAMPION (1996)

The best title reign of Shawn Michaels' legendary career was his first WWE Championship. He had proven himself as a tag team wrestler and as the IC Champion. It was now time to step up to the plate and show he could be a world champion. His victory is one of the best in WWE history, beating Bret Hart in a 60-minute Iron Man match to fulfill his "boyhood dream." He held the title for 231 days.
