Shayna Baszler shocked Ember Moon and the NXT Universe by winning the Women's Championship at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.

As always the latest instalment of NXT TakeOver was stacked with matches that were all capable of stealing the show and perhaps even overshadowing what will happen at WrestleMania on Sunday night. A six man ladder match, Johnny Gargano versus Tomasso Ciampa, Aleister Black battling Andrade Almas for the NXT Title. All bouts with the potential to become instant classics.

Without meaning to offend either Superstar involved in the match, the least anticipated bout on the card going into NXT Takeover was probably the one for the Women's Title. A rematch of the head to head we saw at TakeOver: Philadelphia between Ember Moon and Shayna Baszler. The champion may have won that one but it was by the skin of her teeth and she paid for it after the match when The Queen Of Spades choked her out.

Due to it being a repeat of a match we had already seen this second go around needed something special or shocking to set it apart, especially since it had to follow the epic ladder match that opened the show. Well Moon and Baszler certainly did something shocking. Despite being new to NXT and the business of professional wrestling as a whole, The Queen Of Spades won the match to become the new NXT Women's Champion.

The opening stages of the match were pretty slow going and the first big moment came when Moon did some severe damage to her opponent's arm. Baszler has been stamping on arms since she arrived in NXT, Moon's included, and on Saturday the now former champion gave the former MMA star a taste of her own medicine. It seemed as if that might play a part in the eventual finish and it did, sort of. Baszler choked out Moon and had to grab hold of her own hair since one of her arms was out of commission.

While Moon did not tap out she did pass out so the referee had no choice but to call the match and crown a new champion. What likely made it an even sweeter moment for Baszler was the fact that two of her fellow horsewoman were watching on from ringside, including fellow WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey. Moon fought for so long to become NXT Women's Champion and unfortunately for her she hasn't had the title as long as she probably would have liked to.
