From the day they debuted at Survivor Series 2012 until their first breakup the night after Payback 2014, nobody dominated wrestling more than The Shield. The trio put on stellar matches each week and beat everyone put in front of them during that time. Once they split, the members each went on to have great solo careers.

Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns all became World Champions. They also had some great matches against each other. Whether on major pay-per-views or on weekly television, putting these guys together almost always equaled something spectacular happening between the ropes in singles or triple threat action.

Dean Ambrose vs Roman Reigns

This was certainly the combination that competed against each other the fewest number of times. In fact, this would be their only true high profile battle in a one on one situation. It did have the highest stakes possible, though.

When Seth Rollins went down with an injury in 2015, it cut his WWE Championship reign short. The title was put up for grabs in a tournament. The finals came down to his former Shield buddies, Ambrose and Reigns. This was a fine match but nothing more. The main issue was that it was kept way short and felt underwhelming given how important it should've been.

9 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - Elimination Chamber 2015

Seth Rollins shows off the WWE Title to Dean Ambrose

After Seth Rollins sent back the challenge of Randy Orton a few times, his Shield brethren got involved in the title picture. That included a brilliant fatal four-way at Payback. A few weeks later, Dean Ambrose wiggled his way into a solo opportunity at Rollins' championship.

As usual, these two showcased top-notch chemistry and put on a very entertaining main event. It just wasn't up to par with their best work. The dusty finish where it looked like Ambrose won the title was a case where a fakeout worked and it only made the fans want him to win even more.

8 Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - Raw 6/20/16

Money in the Bank 2016 proved to be a banner night for The Shield. Each man held the WWE Championship within the span of about five minutes (more on that later). Dean Ambrose ended the evening with the gold, leaving the two former champions desperate for another opportunity.

They collided in the main event of Raw the night after Money in the Bank. The two delivered in spades but the no contest finish was disappointing. It left the fans unsatisfied about knowing what would happen with the championship opportunity, though it set up something pretty great.

7 Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - Raw 5/29/17

Seth Rollins kicks Roman Reigns

2017 was the year where the former Shield members avoided each other the most in singles competition. They would ultimately reunite by the end of the year, which is probably why.

However, six days before Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins were part of a five-way elimination main event at Extreme Rules, they met in singles action. Once again, they put on a high quality main event. This go around, they actually had a clean finish, with Reigns hitting the Spear after avoiding the Phoenix Splash.

6 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - SummerSlam 2014

Following Seth Rollins turning on The Shield in May, WWE spent several months building to the big first showdown between him and Dean Ambrose. When Ambrose got the chance to pick the stipulation, fans waited to hear about some kind of barbaric gimmick match. Instead, he went with a Lumberjack match.

Although fans were disappointed by that idea, they made it work and had the best Lumberjack match ever. It was intense, filled with action, and saw Rollins get turned inside out by a rebound clothesline. Rollins scored the win with help from Kane and his Money in the Bank briefcase.

5 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - Hell in a Cell 2014

The feud between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins remained volatile and hot for a while after SummerSlam. It all came to a head (at least for the time being) in the main event of Hell in a Cell with the two men trapped inside of the demonic structure.

Ambrose immediately got the crowd going when he climbed to the top, daring Rollins to fight him there. When they did, it was great and it saw the two fall off the side of the cage. That nearly ended the match before it began but they returned to the ring for more. The only issue with this match was the ending, as Bray Wyatt randomly got involved to make Ambrose lose.

As noted, Dean Ambrose got back into a rivalry with Seth Rollins in 2015, except the WWE Title was the focal point that time. Due to the inconclusive ending to their Elimination Chamber clash, the title was suspended above the ring and they headlined Money in the Bank in a ladder match.

One thing that made this special was that Rollins demanded The Authority not get involved, determined to prove that he could win on his own. What followed was over half an hour of brutal action. Rollins indeed won as he and Ambrose both had the title in their hands as they fell to the mat but Rollins was able to secure it.

3 Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - Battleground 2016

The Shield members face off

Every fan just knew this had to happen at least once. Rarely has a stable produced three top stars the way The Shield did, so a triple threat match involving all of them over the WWE Title was a given. Some fans were disappointed that it was at Battleground instead of a bigger event.

Regardless of where it took place, they delivered. This was action from start to finish and had plenty of callbacks to the history the three had together. In a relatively surprising result, Ambrose pinned Reigns to retain the title and head into the 2016 Draft as champion.

2 Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins - Raw 8/18/14

Seth Rollins hits Dean Ambrose with a kendo stick

Considering how often they've appeared here against each other, it's clear that Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins had the best chemistry against each other. After their strong Lumberjack match at SummerSlam, they were put in a rematch the following night on Raw.

However, this time it would come under Falls Count Anywhere rules. The two had a violent match that saw great spots like Rollins hitting a powerbomb onto a pile of chairs. Once again, it was Rollins who prevailed and put Ambrose on the shelf for several weeks.

1 Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins - Money in the Bank 2016

Reigns lost his title to Rollins at MITB

Money in the Bank 2016 was, as previously mentioned, a huge night for The Shield. Earlier in the show, Dean Ambrose won the Money in the Bank briefcase. To main event the night, Roman Reigns defended his WWE Championship against Seth Rollins, who had recently returned.

This was an outstanding main event. Fans had no idea who would walk out as champion and the drama was high. The moment where Rollins countered a Spear with a mid-air Pedigree was one of the best spots in recent memory. Another Pedigree later and he won back the title he never lost before Ambrose cashed in to dethrone him.
