Shinsuke Nakamura took a beating in SmackDown's Symphony of Destruction match and has the scars and staples to prove it.

WWE might be the most popular wrestling company in the world, and probably always will be, but it is still criticized for a lot of things. Two of the top things some fans dislike about WWE's product are some of its wackier gimmick matches, and also the way it treats certain wrestlers who have been treated differently elsewhere in the business.

If both of those things bother you as a wrestling fan, then this week's SmackDown might be one to avoid if you've not watched it already. At least the Symphony of Destruction match. The team of Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro went up against Elias and Braun Strowman. No disqualifications, falls count anywhere, and a wealth of weapons around the ring for all four Superstars to make use of.

It might have been one of WWE's weirder gimmick matches, but it actually made for quite a brutal segment with a couple of great spots. Strowman being suplexed into stand up bass was one of those big moments, as was the match's eventual finish. The Monster Among Men delivered his Running Powerslam to Nakamura off the announce table and onto a grand piano.

As you might imagine, grand pianos don't have much give. The spot looked like it would have hurt Nakamura a lot, and although we don't know what part of the match caused the gnarly looking injury above, we'd hazard to guess it was the bump on the piano. WWE posted the photos on Instagram revealing Nakamura needed to receive nine staples in his head after the match. The former Intercontinental Champion wasn't shown on camera after the match, but announcers did reveal he was receiving medical attention.

Fans who have followed Nakamura's career since New Japan have likely been waiting for The King of Strong Style to show WWE fans what he is capable of. At this point, we might never see that Nakamura in WWE. He knows WWE demands something different from him and he is delivering as best he can. He has achieved more than most realize in WWE, but will forever be compared to the wrestler he used to be in Japan.
