Amazing as it may seem today, there was a time when some people thought Sid Vicious was going to be the next Hulk Hogan. When he started out, Sid had a fantastic look of a man who seemed ready to not only crush anyone in his path but enjoy it too. He was often booked as an unstable guy ready to go off at any moment, which ended up being not far from his real-life persona. That, combined with a distinct lack of wrestling skills, made Sid an infamous figure in the business.

Over the years, Sid has become famous for his wild promos and crazy off-screen antics. It's almost easy to forget his actual wrestling career, but that's included some pretty out-there moments. They include nonsensical angles, crazy matches, and other bits that continue to baffle. These are just 10 moments in Sid's career that made no sense and a reason why it's easy to mock him today.

10 That Injury

WCW SIN 2001

Besides his crazy promos and nutty angles, Sid is best known for one of the most gruesome in-ring injuries of all time. At 2001's Sin, Sid was in a four-way match against Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, and a mystery man who turned out to be Road Warrior Animal.

Sid took off the second rope, landing badly enough to shatter his leg and effectively end his career. Why a man whose agility in the best of times was horrible would try a high-flying move was completely idiotic, and that horrible injury was proof the attempt was a dumb idea.

If there's one guy you'd think could never be accepted in ECW, Sid was it. Paul Heyman was into pushing either hardcore guys or technical masters, and Sid never fit into either group. But in 1999, Sid made a major impact in ECW, booked by Heyman as a true monster crushing guys left and right.

To be fair, it was a good period that made Sid look strong and aided his later return to WCW. Yet it's still weird that a guy so against the typical ECW formula of the time got this huge showcase by Heyman, which is one of the odder touches of ECW's last years.

8 His Babyface Booking

First, making someone who's so perfect as a heel a babyface is tricky in itself. But WCW did Sid no favors with some of their booking ideas. One was to show Sid unable to get to the arena, talking on the phone with, "guys, you hear me?" like an idiot.

Another had Sid somehow able to get 20 cars in a parking lot circle to challenge Steiner. Then there was just as Sid was clicking as WCW World Champion, he was stripped of the belt for no reason whatsoever. And folks wonder how his company went out of business.

On paper, Sid and Vader as "the Masters of the Powerbomb" should have been fantastic. Leave it to WCW to make it laughable. Instead of a flat-out feud, they filmed a mini-movie where the heel tracked Sting and British Bulldog to an island "somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico" where they're playing volleyball with some kids.

A little person with an eyepatch swam over to put a bomb on their boat, which they barely escaped. Somehow, this was all meant to get folks to buy the PPV and one of the craziest parts of a crazy WCW year.

6 Harvey Wippleman As Manager

The early 1990s was a golden era for WWE managers. When Sid turned heel, he could have gotten someone flashy and good to build him up. Instead, he got Harvey Wippleman. The nerdy goofball was never a good manager, far too scrawny and not that good in promos either.

The fact Sid easily towered over him didn't help as, rather than give him more heat, Wippleman made Sid look weaker. That the alliance was short-lived before Sid left makes Wippleman a worse managerial choice.

5 His 26-Second Loss

Lex Luger US Champ WCW

In 1990, Sid returned to WCW after time away from injury. He was instantly made a member of The Four Horsemen, as the group's enforcer, who was set on the main event path. In his first match, Sid faced Lex Luger at Clash of the Champions XI...and lost in less than half a minute with a fast three count.

It seemed booker Ole Anderson was upset about Sid being seen playing softball during his rehabilitation but immediately jobbing a would-be "monster" doesn't help his image.

4 The Harris Twins Mess

Sid Vicious vs. Kevin Nash

Even by WCW's lofty standards, this was a ridiculous storyline. In early 2000, Sid lost a WCW title match to Chris Benoit, only for Benoit to bolt for WWE. WCW Commissioner Kevin Nash told Sid that he would get a title shot by beating Don Harris, which he did and then defeated Nash for the title.

But Nash revealed Sid had actually beat Don's twin brother Ron, stripped him of the title, and awarded it to himself. Sid then beat Nash and the Harris Twins in a handicap match for the belt to close out one of WCW's more nonsensical storylines.

3 Aiding Shawn Michaels

The last time Shawn Michaels and Sycho Sid had met was in late 1995 where they were heated rivals, and Shawn kicked Sid in the face. In July of 1996, Shawn and Ahmed Johnson were to team with The Ultimate Warrior against Camp Cornette. When Warrior left, Shawn brought Sid as his replacement.

To pick a guy who'd been out to injury for months was one thing but given how Sid had tried to put him out of wrestling, Shawn trusting him was baffling, not to mention why Sid would agree to it. It led to him becoming WWE Champion, yet still an odd choice.

2 The Millenium Man

Building up a new challenger in WCW was well and good, but they did mess this one up. The idea was to make Sid the new force by having him replicate Goldberg's epic winning streak. The problem was, while Goldberg's streak was built up slowly over months, Sid was suddenly said to have been winning matches in record time.

Also, some of his "victories" were just interrupting matches to powerbomb guys. All that build ended in Sid losing to Goldberg when the ref stopped the match for blood loss. It was a reason why "win streaks" are tricky to pull off.

1 The Fake Sting

Halloween Havoc 1990 was Sid's first main event shot, but it's also one of the most laughable. He was challenging Sting for the NWA World Title, which should have been a great match. But the bout became a mess when Sting chased Arn Anderson into the back.

He emerged a few minutes later...only now "Sting" was six inches taller, heavier, and bore a striking resemblance to Barry Windham. Sid pinned "Sting" with balloons falling in celebration until the real Sting raced out to pin him and expose the imposter. It's still one of the most baffling WCW main events ever.
