Jerry Lawler revealed the specific instructions Vince gave the commentary team during the chaotic wedding segment that closed Raw last week.

One critique of WWE, especially from the commentary team is that WWE has a tendency to overproduce some of the segments the WWE Universe gets to see each week on Raw. Commentators like Jerry Lawler and Corey Graves have noted that one of the most difficult aspects of their job is to do their part while Vince is constantly talking into the headset during the action.

Lawler revealed on his latest podcast The Jerry Lawler Show, that a segment that many might have assumed would have Vince all over it was actually quite the opposite.

Despite the fact WWE had been building up the segment for weeks and introduced Liv Morgan into it, Vince didn't go over the top with the instructions during the last 30 minutes of the show. In fact, he was very quiet, telling Lawler only to "go out there and have fun with this."

Lawler said, “Vince was great and Paul Heyman was great before the segment started." He added that their willingness to back off the segment took a lot of pressure off the commentary team. He noted that it was a nice change considering much extra media coverage there was on the angle.

The One Instruction Vince Did Give

The segment wasn't entirely McMahon free. Lawler also mentioned that Vince spoke in his headset at one stage asking Lawler to clarify whether the priest really did say “mawwiage” instead of “marriage”.

For those that understand the reference, there is a movie called The Princess Bride where the priest conducts the formals of the wedding in an odd way and Lawler made references to that during the segment.
