CM Punk and AJ Lee - one of the biggest power couples in professional wrestling - left the WWE under bitter circumstances several years ago.

In Jan. 2014, Punk walked out before Raw went on the air - informing Triple H and Vince McMahon that he was heading home. The former World Heavyweight Champion never returned to WWE again, and he was officially handed his walking papers several months later.

Lee was one of the top stars in the women's division, winning three Divas Championships. However, she retired shortly after WrestleMania 31 - just over a year after her husband had left the company.

After her retirement, Lee explained that a cervical spine problem - along with CM Punk's frustrating exit from the company - led to her hanging up the wrestling boots. Before that, Lee also made headlines when she called out Stephanie McMahon on Twitter due to the poor pay and lack of TV time of the female competitors in WWE.

Here we are several years after the departures of both Punk and Lee, with fans wondering if they'll ever come back. Well, the good news is that Stephanie expressed interest in having the two wrestling legends return during an interview with Metro.

"I personally enjoy watching both of them perform," McMahon said. "I think Punk’s been pretty vocal that he’s not interested in an in-ring return right now, but for sure, that would be interesting. And I would love to see AJ Lee back in the women’s division...Some of our most interesting and intriguing storylines were with AJ, and I think she deserves as much credit as every other woman on our roster."

CM Punk recently joined WWE Backstage on Fox Sports 1 as an analyst, thus providing hope among fans that he's close to patching things up with WWE. His well-documented feud with Seth Rollins has also led to speculation that the two will eventually square off in the ring.

For what it's worth, Triple H was quick to shut down any speculation that Punk is about to return to WWE - noting that they haven't held discussions yet. But time heals all wounds, and hopefully the two sides will find a way to patch things up.

Things Are Moving In The Right Direction

In regards to a potential return for CM Punk and/or AJ Lee, things appear to be trending upwards. Punk being part of WWE Backstage - along with Stephanie's admitted interest in bringing them back - point towards the two parties eventually making amends and reforming their working partnership. It still may take some time before we potentially see Punk and possibly Lee in the ring, but things are certainly looking promising right now.
