It's been 16 years since 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin retired from the WWE, but fans continue to dream about the Texas Rattlesnake coming back for one more match.

Austin maintained for quite some time that he was content on retirement and had no plans to return. However, the WWE Hall of Famer recently said that he could, physically speaking, do another match. Austin also expressed confidence that he'd be able to wrestle without getting injured.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Ringside News) suggested that the pieces are there for Austin to returned. The Observer noted that he's still in excellent shape and can still "get by."

Not only that, but the Observer said that Goldberg apparently made around $2 million for his Super ShowDown match against The Undertaker, so Austin would certainly earn a giant payday if he agreed to do the match at Crown Jewel on Oct. 31.

WWE has made it a priority to bring in as many big-named veterans as possible for his matches in Saudi Arabia. The Undertaker and Triple H competed at Greatest Royal Rumble, Crown Jewel and Super Showdown, while John Cena took part in the first event.

On top of that, WWE was able to bring Shawn Michaels out of an eight-year retirement for last year's Crown Jewel show. He reformed D-Generation X with Triple H, and they defeated the Brothers of Destruction in a tag team match.

There are also talks about WWE bringing Edge out of retirement. Like Austin, The Rated-R superstar had to retire early due to a serious neck injury. But if both are cleared, and if Vince McMahon is going to offer a handsome payday, we just might see the two legends unlikely returns after all.

Never Say Never

Goldberg's matches don't last long at all, and he doesn't have to take many bumps. WWE could easily plan out matches for Austin and Edge in which they don't put their bodies at serious risk. And the fact that Austin sounds keen on a return means you really can't rule anything out. Crown Jewel is only a few weeks away now, so we won't have to wait long in finding out if he's making a comeback or not.
