For 14 years, Sting was the face of WCW and one of the top stars in all of professional wrestling. Sting was also one of the only top WCW stars who chose not to go to WWE after WCW went out of business, instead choosing to head to TNA Impact Wrestling and continue to compete with WWE.

In 2021, Sting is still playing the rebel in pro wrestling. The Stinger signed a long-term deal with AEW and joining WWE's biggest rival in over a decade. However, Sting finally made his WWE debut and worked for the company from 2014-2016. While the time there was not what Sting and his fans expected, he has one last chance now with AEW to end his career the way he wants. But what would be the best way to sum up The Stinger's time in WWE?

10 Sting WWE DVD & Video Game Appearance

Before Sting ever showed up in person for WWE, many things happened in succession that hinted he was on the way. Bill Apter wrote an article for WWE.com about Sting, and after that, Sting showed up on a WWE Network special about The Ultimate Warrior.

However, the biggest news came after that, a DVD about Sting's career went on sale through WWE, and then he was added to WWE 2K15, with Sting showing up for a promo for the new game. Then, WWE started selling Sting merchandise, and the table was set.

At the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International, Sting was a surprise guest, showing up in full paint and taking part in the WWE panel for the upcoming Mattel action figures. This included the first-ever Sting action figure for WWE. Sting also gave his first interview for WWE.com, and now fans just wanted to know when Sting was going to appear in a WWE ring.

Sting finally made his first-ever appearance in a WWE ring during the 2014 Survivor Series. His debut took place during the traditional Survivor Series match between Team Cena and Team Authority. Big Show betrayed John Cena and turned heel, knocking the team captain out. That left Dolph Ziggler at a three-on-one disadvantage.

However, Ziggler eliminated both Kane and Luke Harper, and it was Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins. Triple H cheated as much as he could, but then Sting showed up, hit the Scorpion Death Drop on Triple H, and helped Ziggler pin Rollins, breaking up The Authority.

By January, the entire situation that broke up The Authority was reversed, and Triple H was back in power, ruling over WWE with Stephanie McMahon and making sure Seth Rollins kept his place on top of the roster.

Since John Cena was failing miserably in his quest to stop The Authority and was actually the person who brought them back, to begin with, the babyfaces in WWE needed help. That brought in Sting for his first Monday Night Raw appearance on January 19, 2015. Cena was in a handicap match to win Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, and Erick Rowan their jobs back, and Sting showed up as a distraction to help Cena win.

6 Sting And Triple H Feud

Sting vs Triple H

As expected from his first two appearances in WWE, the first major feud for Sting was against Triple H and The Authority. It was a feud designed to lead to Triple H and Sting eventually wrestling, the long-time face of WCW against one of the men who led WWE during the Attitude Era. While most fans wanted to see Sting and Undertaker as the two faces of their companies, WWE had other ideas, which was Sting's first feud.

5 Sting Vs. Triple H At WrestleMania 31

Sting vs Triple H

Sadly, while Sting vs. Triple H should have been a great match, especially for fans, WWE wanted to make it a spectacle and chose to do the unthinkable. Instead of letting Sting have his WrestleMania moment, WWE made this DX vs. nWo. This made no sense since Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are as much with Triple H as anyone, and Sting battled the nWo the entire time they were in WCW.

To add insult to injury, Triple H beat Sting in the only WrestleMania match of The Stinger's career.  After Triple H beat Sting, the two men shook hands, and it ended their feud inexplicably. The two men were in such a fierce feud, and Sting wanted to save WWE. Triple H won, and the two just called it square, making Sting's arrival and purpose in WWE make no sense.

4 Sting Feuds With Seth Rollins

Sting vs. Seth Rollins was the second and final feud of The Stinger's WWE career. Sting made his return to WWE on the August 24, 2015, episode of Monday Night Raw, and he challenged Rollins. That same night, Sting wrestled his first-ever match on Raw and beat Big Show big DQ when Rollins interfered.

The match between Rollins and Sting ended up taking place at the 2015 Night of Champions pay-per-view. Despite Sting only wrestling in three matches in WWE and his only clean win coming in a tag team match, WWE gave him a world title shot against Rollins. The two men ended up putting on a great match, but it had one downfall. Rollins hit Sting with two Bucklebombs and legit injured Sting. Rollins pinned Sting in his final WWE match.

2 Sting's Injury Ends In-Ring Career (For Now)

The injury that Sting suffered was one that ended his career. The two Bucklebombs caused a severe neck injury for Sting. It turned out that Sting had cervical spinal stenosis, which is the same injury that put Edge on the shelf for almost nine years. While Edge was able to return, Sting was 56 when he suffered his injury. Sting wanted to come back and wrestle Undertaker but ended up never wrestling for WWE again. He made his last appearance in 2019 when he just made an appearance at Ric Flair's 70th birthday celebration.

After Sting's injury, WWE seemed to know he would never wrestle for them again. As a result, WWE inducted Sting into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. He was the first member of the class announced, and it was at this point that Sting dropped the bomb for all his fans. Sting officially used his Hall of Fame speech to let everyone know he was retiring from his professional wrestling career. Only time will tell if he will make his return to active competition while in an AEW ring.
