The current generation is in a position where everything that happens backstage in WWE is usually leaked online. This is the only generation who has been able to take advantage of the internet in this way and it has been able to uncover some things that the company would have rather of kept quiet. Social media allows fans to share their knowledge but it also allows Superstars to share their stories. They can let their fans know when they are unhappy, or even when something bad has happened to them. This isn't just limited to current employees, as former employees have also come out with some interesting stories.

As with any place where people are forced to work together on a regular basis, there will be many that don't like each other. This makes them cause as many issues as they can between each other to either make them quit or back down. If one is much higher in the company then they will be the ones who will likely come out on top. It isn't just the superstars who cause problems either, some of WWE's backstage punishments have been harsh as well. If the company really dislikes a wrestler enough, sometimes they can push their punishment even further and book a segment on WWE TV so that the world will be able to see the Superstar's embarrassment.

The following list looks at just 10 nasty things that have happened backstage in WWE over the past few years, as well as eight that took place in front of the live TV cameras.

18 Camera: Daniel Puder's Royal Rumble

via wrestlingclique.com

Daniel Puder may have been announced as the winner of Tough Enough, but it seems that he definitely wasn't "tough enough" to take on most of the WWE locker room. Puder put himself in a bad position when he accepted Kurt Angle's challenge and almost made the Olympic Gold Medalist tap to an arm-bar.

Angle found his way out of it but the locker room was not impressed with someone coming in and disrespecting someone like Angle so when Puder was entered into The Royal Rumble a few months later Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Bob Holly all took it upon themselves to legitimately beat up the star as a way to welcome him to WWE and teach him some manners when it came to working with the bigger guys in the company.

17 Backstage: Judging Women Based On Looks

Via cagesideseats.com

The Women's Evolution is currently in full swing and it seems that the Mae Young Classic was one of the biggest things to help to kickstart this. Sadly, it seems that WWE officials are unable to bring their minds into a 21st Century setting because there were reports that many officials thought that the women in the tournament weren't attractive enough.

This isn't the first time WWE officials have made light of the way that someone looks, with reports of longtime ring announcer Lilian Garcia being referred to as a horse by many of the stars including Triple H, with him once commenting on air that she was "just horsing around." It seems that despite the women fighting for change, the real change for WWE needs to take place in their boardroom.

16 Backstage: Chris Jericho Shows His Dislike Of Brock Lesnar

via f4wonline.com

Following SummerSlam back in 2016, it seems that there were a number of superstars in the back who had a few issues with the way that the match between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton finished. One of these men was Chris Jericho, who is good friends with Orton and wanted to make sure that his friend hadn't been shoot attacked by Brock, since that was what it looked like.

No one told Jericho that Lesnar was just doing as he was told so he confronted The Beast the minute he walked through the curtain and things seemingly got a little bit heated between the duo. Of course, Jericho was later told that this was the way the match was planned, so it seems that WWE even managed to work one of their best stars with that booking.

15 Camera: Jeff Jarrett Loses To Chyna

Photo: SI.com

This entry is perhaps more relevant now because Jarrett is going into the Hall of Fame, but it seems that there was a time when Jarrett was so forgettable that WWE managed to overlook the fact that his contract had expired and he was still Intercontinental Champion.

Of course, Jeff was able to use this to his advantage and held the company to ransom when it came to money, so as revenge he was booked to drop the Championship to a woman, Chyna. Jarrett was a part of history but it seems that this isn't the way he saw his Championship match going, WWE has since paid for Jarrett's rehab and agreed to induct him into this year's Hall of Fame, which means that they could finally be back on good terms.

14 Backstage: Randy Orton's Younger Exploits

via pinterest.com

Anyone who has followed Randy Orton's career over the past decade will know that the third-generation star has come a long way since he first debuted in the company. Orton was once someone who had a huge chip on his shoulder and caused a number of problems backstage that went on to cost other superstars their jobs.

One of these incidents was when Orton decided that as a prank he would defecate in Diva Search contestant Rochelle Loewen's bag. Loewen later came forward after she left WWE and talked about how Orton would treat women terribly backstage during his earlier career and one of the reasons she aimed such hatred at her was because she didn't know his name before she signed for the company. Hopefully, Orton has changed a little bit since then.

13 Backstage: The Bullying Of Sunny

via youtube.com

Sunny isn't someone that the WWE Universe pay a lot of attention to anymore but it seems that when she was part of WWE, she had a little more attention than she could probably handle. Reports suggest that the locker room were not happy about how superficial the former diva had become and with rumours about her cheating on Chris Candido with Shawn Michaels circulating, there was a lot of resentment towards her for a number of years.

One of the worst cases of bullying that Sunny suffered was during the 1996 European Tour where it is reported that one of her fellow superstars actually defecated in her food. It is unknown if the person was Scott Hall or X-Pac but Sunny was sent home after the incident and left the company just a few short years later.

12 Camera: Lana Is Punished For Getting Engaged

Via skysports.com

Even though the WWE Universe were aware that Rusev and Lana were in a relationship off screen, it seems that the storyline on WWE TV was that Lana had moved on to Dolph Ziggler as it seems that Vince McMahon was trying his best to come between the couple.

This obviously failed when they announced their engagement a few months later and TMZ picked up the story. It ended the storyline and it infuriated many WWE officials who then decided to humiliate Lana by airing a backstage segment where The Rock made jokes about her at her expense. The segment was heavily criticised as fans realised that this was WWE's way of getting back at the star for running the plans that they obviously had for her and Rusev moving forward.

11 Backstage: Melina's Punishment

Via sescoops.com

Every WWE fan will remember Melina and her huge ego from her time in WWE as a former Women's and Divas Champion, but it seems that her ego wasn't just inside the ring, she followed this up backstage.

Melina even went as far as being kicked out of the women's locker room by Lita because she couldn't take listening to her anymore. This led to Melina being taken to "Wrestler's Court" where she was forced to explain her actions whilst wrestlers insulted her over and over. This apparently went on for so long and became so harsh that the former Women's Champion was reduced to tears. Of course, this didn't make a lot of difference when it came to her backstage attitude, since it was one of the reasons WWE finally released her a few years later.

10 Backstage: Roman Reigns Forced To Make Apology

Via WWE.com

When Roman Reigns violated WWE's Wellness Policy for the first time in the build-up to Battleground back in 2016, it seems that he knew that he had let WWE down and a number of his fellow superstars. Not only was Roman suspended for 30 days and forced to drop the Championship to Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank when he was pinned clean, but when he returned to the company he was forced to apologize to the WWE locker room.

He was being pushed as one of the biggest stars that the company had at that point so it seems that WWE officials thought that he should apologize to his peers for his actions as well. This would definitely have stopped him from ever doing it again if nothing else, but it's still somewhat humiliating for WWE to force a star to do something like this.

9 Camera: WWE Punishes Lita For Retiring

via sportskeeda.com

Both Trish Stratus and Lita decided to retire from WWE back in 2006 within two months of each other, but it seems that whilst Trish was given a heroes send off in her hometown and allowed to walk out as Champion, Lita was given a much worse curtain call.

Rumour has it that Vince McMahon was annoyed that his best two best female talents had decided to leave at the same time so he wanted to make an example out of Lita, which is why she lost her Championship and then Cryme Tyme decided to hold a "ho sale." It was a disgusting way for WWE to say farewell to one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time, and many fans have still not forgiven the company for it.

8 Backstage: Discriminatory Employee Retains His Job

Via comicbook.com

Alberto Del Rio was released from WWE back in 2014 after it was revealed that he had gotten into a backstage altercation with an employee where he felt the need to make things physical by slapping them. This was seemingly because the employee made some racist remarks about Del Rio and he thought that this was the appropriate response.

What is most shocking about this story is the fact that Del Rio was fired for physically attacking an employee, but reports suggest that the employee managed to keep their job. Del Rio did return to the company a year later, before once again being released in 2016, social media manager Cody Barbierri left the company a few months later of his own volition, which is shocking considering how fast WWE released Del Rio.

7 Camera: Jinder Mahal's Tasteless Promo

via youtube.com

WWE definitely went too far last year when they decided to book Jinder Mahal to cut a tasteless promo on Shinsuke Nakamura where he likened him to Mr Miyagi. The WWE Universe in attendance chanted that Jinder had gone too far with this comments and it seems that even WWE realized that it could have been a little bit too much as well.

It is reported that Nakamura hasn't been performing at the same level on the main roster that he was when he was in NXT and this could have been behind the reasons why WWE allowed Jinder to publicly humiliate the former NXT Champion. That being said, WWE's booking of Nakamura over the past few months has been his main issue, not Nakamura's in-ring ability, but they have allowed him to win this year's Royal Rumble which would definitely have helped him put the entire segment behind him.

6 Backstage: The Bill DeMott Situation

Via Youtube.com

It is hard to comprehend the fact that Bill DeMott was able to get away with what he did for so long without anyone higher up in the company doing anything about it. DeMott was in a position of power and it seems that he used that to his advantage for most of his career.

Back in 2015, finally it was made public knowledge that DeMott had abused a number of the trainees that he was responsible for, with one of them even filing a letter with the higher-ups in WWE two years earlier when he was concerned that the former head trainer was endangering a number of his trainees. DeMott was later accused of every kind of abuse possible: mental, emotional, physical, and even sexual but rather than firing him, WWE allowed him to resign because it was a much simpler situation to explain.

5 Camera: Enzo Amore's Punishment

via inquisitr.com

The WWE Universe will probably remember a few months ago when Enzo Amore won the Cruiserweight Championship and was then subjected to a scene when Raw went off the air where he was forced to take every finisher that the Cruiserweight division had. This once again went against everything WWE taught their fanbase about bullying as it seems Enzo was part of this because of his backstage antics.

It was well-known that Amore had been kicked out of the WWE locker room earlier that year and was moved over to 205 Live because he was so disliked and it seems that this was WWE's way of taking him down to size. It was brutal to watch and definitely sent the wrong message to the younger members of the WWE Universe.

4 Backstage: Vince McMahon And Bret Hart

Via si.com

The Montreal Screwjob is one of the best known WWE screw-jobs of all time, but the aftermath of the incident isn't as well known. As the superstars headed backstage, it seems that Vince McMahon wanted to explain his actions to Bret Hart so he followed him into the WWE locker room and obviously the duo ended up getting into an even bigger argument than the one they had recently had in front of the TV cameras.

This was a huge mistake since Bret was in no mood to talk to McMahon and instead punched him in the face. Somehow the two men have been able to put their differences behind them and move forward over the past decade but this is still considered to be one of the most iconic backstage incidents in WWE history.

3 Camera: Trish Stratus Is Forced To Bark Like A Dog

Via Youtube.com

Vince McMahon probably should have known that he went too far with this segment when it was banned from being aired by Sky Sports in the UK. It seems that the story behind it was that Trish had something of an ego backstage so Vince had the perfect way to bring her down to size and that was by having her forced to strip down to her underwear and bark like a dog in the middle of the ring on national TV.

It is one of the most controversial segments of all time and shows just how much power McMahon had at that point since his creative team actually approved this. Trish went on to have a successful wrestling career after this, so it seems that whatever this hazing process was, she passed.

2 Backstage: JBL's Bullying

Via TheSportster.com

Bullying is something that WWE has attempted to help many of their fans with over the past few years, even launching the Be A Star Campaign, but it seems that the company can't even deal with bullies that they employ, which makes this slightly hypocritical.

JBL was known to bully and haze superstars for a number of years and no one did a thing about it. One of the best things that ever happened to JBL was when the former World Champion decided to pick on Joey Styles. It reached the point of no return when JBL poured his drink on him and went on to degrade his family, so Joey lost it and knocked JBL out. That should have taught him a lesson about who he bullied, but it seemed that he continued to victimise fellow superstars even after this incident.

Perhaps one of the worst female storylines in WWE history when it came to the fact that WWE was promoting the message that it was OK for other girls to bully each other about the way that they looked. Which is obviously another reason why WWE's Be A Star Campaign is a complete joke, when they allow this kind of content to be aired.

This entire storyline came about because Mickie had apparently been told that she needed to lose weight and she had refused. Add this to the fact that she had recently been known to have had an affair with John Cena and it seems that Mickie really wasn't in WWE's good books so they decided to write up one of the most humiliating storylines of all time.
