The Mixed Match Challenge is growing ever closer and in all fairness over the festive period, promotion for the groundbreaking show has fallen a little flat. That’s all set to change this week however as Daniel Bryan and Kurt Angle get ready to announce who will be teaming with who for the mixed tag matches. The only trouble is those teams will now have to be reshuffled slightly, at least on Raw. Enzo Amore has been sidelined with the flu and has hence been dropped from the bracket. The Cruiserweight Champion was likely going to team up with Nia Jax to further the pair’s current romantic angle. That won’t be happening now and a replacement is needed. Here are five men that may fill Enzo Amore’s slot.

5. Elias

There are plenty of Superstars available on the Raw roster right now and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a like-for-like replacement for Enzo Amore. To be fair is there anyone quite like the Cruiserweight Champion on the roster right now anyway? Someone who may have nothing to do relatively soon is Elias. The Drifter has recently been acting as a sort of surrogate leader for The Miztourage since their leader has been away filming The Marine 6. The Awesome One returns this coming Monday, however, so Elias may be left with nothing to do. What would make his inclusion in the MMC even better is The Miz is also in the tournament, and if an angle starts between them on Raw next week it could continue into the mixed tag tournament.

4. Jason Jordan

Another man who could do with being given a spot in the Mixed Match Challenge is Jason Jordan. As we’ve learned over the past few years, Vince McMahon believes one of the keys to making fans like a Superstar that they are currently booing is to stand them alongside somebody the WWE Universe likes. We have seen it time and time again with Roman Reigns who has been paired with the likes of Sasha Banks, Bray Wyatt, and of course his Shield brothers in order to make fans like him. That is now happening with Jordan and is one of the main reasons why he is currently a Tag Team Champion with Seth Rollins. Pairing him with someone like Bayley or Asuka might be a way to further the fans’ interest in him.

3. Curt Hawkins

Curt Hawkins is currently on one hell of a losing streak. It’s probably fair to say that some fans likely expected more from the former Tag Team Champion during his latest WWE run but alas it wasn’t to be. Hawkins is currently trying to make the best of a bad lot, however. The Raw Superstar has now lost more than 150 straight matches and is attempting to make a gimmick out of it. He even got a response from The Rock on social media after he claimed that he would break his duck against The Great One. The opening in the MMC is the perfect opportunity to include Hawkins in an angle. All the women involved could desperately try to not be paired with him as they’re almost guaranteed to lose. Then, in the tournament, the female could win the match for his team and people could claim his losing streak is still intact since he wasn’t the team member who won the match.

2. Cedric Alexander

The best idea for Enzo Amore’s replacement would be to have a fellow cruiserweight fill in for 205 Live‘s champion. If that’s the avenue they decide to take then who better than Cedric Alexander? Alexander was supposed to get his title shot against Amore on Raw this week and missed that opportunity because of the champ being absent. It only seems right that he should get Amore’s spot in the MMC as a consolation. There are a couple of added bonuses too. Alexander has recently formed a friendship with Goldust who is also in the tournament, plus he could end up getting paired with his on-screen ex-girlfriend Alica Fox.

1. Drew Gulak

via wwe.com

Let’s be honest, if there is going to be a cruiserweight filling Enzo Amore’s Mixed Match Challenge shoes then there really is only one man for the job, Drew Gulak. Gulak is currently a loyal member of Amore’s ‘Zo Train but there has been a tease of the Microsoft Powerpoint enthusiast breaking off from the pack and rebelling against his leader. What better way to further that angle than to have Gulak take Amore’s place in the tournament? When the champion returns, Gulak could claim that he was trying to help only to be yelled at and belittled by Amore, especially if he’s eliminated early on.
