WWE splitting up a tag team is something that is quite common, but that doesn't always mean it's a good idea. Sometimes it is done to propel one member to singles success, but in most cases that leaves the other person behind. It's clear that WWE doesn't always have long-term booking ideas, and that can lead to major issues.

One way WWE looks to resolve that is by quickly putting the other wrestler back into a brand new tag team. While it does defeat the objective of splitting the original team up in the first place, it's something WWE has done countless times at this point, leaving nobody shocked. Plus, every now and then it does lead to an entertaining new team.

10 Peyton Royce

Peyton Royce Tag Team

A very recent example of WWE splitting up a team and immediately throwing someone into a new team is with Peyton Royce. The IIconics were a very popular tag team and one that people didn't really want to see split in the first place.

However, fans were excited about the possibility of each woman as singles stars and while it's happened somewhat for Billie Kay, the same cannot be said for Royce. WWE has simply thrown her into a new tag team, randomly with Lacey Evans, which nobody is interested in seeing.

9 Chad Gable

Chad Gable Tag Teams

American Alpha was an amazing tag team that fans absolutely loved watching, and their initial run on the main roster was actually very good. However, WWE split them up in order to have Jason Jordan pushed as Kurt Angle's son.

This left Gable alone, and while he teased going solo, that didn't last long at all. That's because Shelton Benjamin returned to WWE and the company put them together, seemingly to replicate the success Gable had already had.

8 Charlie Haas

Charlie Haas Tag Team

Speaking of Shelton Benjamin, he was originally a tag team partner alongside Charlie Haas, with the duo making up two-thirds of Team Angle. They were an excellent team together until the WWE Draft in 2004.

Benjamin was moved onto Raw, breaking up the team, but WWE wasn't finished with Haas in that division. He quickly moved on and began working alongside Rico, in a brand new team.

7 Big Show

Big Show Partners

Big Show has had various tag team partners throughout his WWE career, but two of his most successful and memorable partners came very close together. Initially teaming with Chris Jericho, the two veterans had a lot of success together and really were a surprise hit.

However, when the draft forced them to separate, with Jericho only having previously been allowed on Raw due to being champions with Show, the World's Largest Athlete found himself a new partner. That man would be The Miz.

6 Curtis Axel

Curtis Axel Teamseams

Over time, Curtis Axel became quite the forgotten man in WWE, but he did manage to put together a couple of tag team runs over the course of his career. Axel was brought together with Ryback as a tag team, which is a partnership a lot forget about.

But when Ryback got injured, Axel was left stuck. WWE decided here to create the Meta Powers team with him and Damien Sandow pretending to be Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, which was actually fairly entertaining.

5 Heath Slater

Heath Slater

Throughout his WWE career, Heath Slater really was passed around from one idea to another, doing a lot of different things during his time with the company. At one stage, he formed the team Slater-Gator, working alongside Titus O'Neil.

They had moderate success but the duo finished when O'Neil reunited with Darren Young as Prime Time Players instead. However, that led Slater into another team, as a member of the Social Outcasts.

4 Robert Roode

Robert Roode Teams

Robert Roode has always had great success in the tag team division, particularly in TNA where he was in Beer Money Inc. However, in WWE he's also had a couple of big tag team runs, initially working with Chad Gable on the main roster.

However, after Gable was moved in the Superstar Shake-Up, Roode changed up his character. Going from Bobby Roode to Robert Roode, he began teaming with Dolph Ziggler, maintaining the tag team work.

3 Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston Teams

While fans now think about New Day when it comes to Kofi Kingston's tag team career, he did have several partners prior to that. Kofi had great success alongside Evan Bourne initially, with the two men really suiting each other with their styles.

However, when Bourne was suspended for violating the wellness policy, WWE decided to quickly shift Kofi onto something new. He ended up teaming with R-Truth straight after, continuing the same level of success, proving Kofi's ability to adapt.

2 Zack Ryder

Zack Ryder Tag Teams

Zack Ryder's tag team run with Curt Hawkins has always been where fans have really embraced him. However, Ryder did spend a long period working in a tag team alongside Mojo Rawley, as The Hype Bros.

When Ryder got injured, the partnership with Rawley was split up. When he returned, WWE changed things up but kept Ryder as a tag team wrestler as he reunited with Curt Hawkins.

1 Cody Rhodes

Cody tag team

Not only did Cody Rhodes go from one tag team to another, but he actually did it within the same match. Cody was initially in a team with Hardcore Holly, holding the Tag Team Championships together to great success.

But at the Night Of Champions event in 2008, he ended up being the mystery tag team partner for Ted DiBiase Jr. He turned on Holly at the start of the match and joined a new team in what was a truly shocking twist.
