On yesterday's episode of Monday Night Raw, commissioner Stephanie McMahon named Kurt Angle the captain of the red brand at Survivor Series. She also told Angle he'd be fired as Raw GM if they lose to SmackDown, putting the pressure on the Olympic gold medalist to pick his team cautiously.
Earlier this afternoon, Angle announced his first pick on Twitter, to the surprise of very few.
For those of you who missed yesterday's episode of Raw, Strowman made quite the return despite Michael Cole announcing he could miss "months" after being dumped into a garbage truck at TLC.
The Miz, Curtis Axel, and Bo Dallas attempted to leave Raw on a limo after Kane, Cesaro, and Sheamus told him he was on his own. But a garbage truck blocked the exit, and Strowman came out of it and attacked all three members to end the episode. Statement made. Revenge complete.
With that, the Monster Among Men will represent Team Raw at Survivor Series for the second straight year. He and Angle have taken up two of the spots for the red team, while Randy Orton is the only confirmed member of SmackDown—heading into tonight's episode.
For Strowman, being part of Team Raw should only help him develop more as a babyface. Despite the heel portrayal, Strowman has gotten plenty of cheers and ovations from the crowds. After being betrayed by Team Miz at TLC, Strowman became a fan favorite for the first time since breaking away from The Wyatt Family.
The decision to include Strowman is interesting, as his on-screen character always displays an unwillingness to cooperate with his team. Strowman is all about crushing and dominating singles competitors, but he'll be teaming up with three of Raw's best against SmackDown's elite.
With Survivor Series less than three weeks away, the rest of teams will be announced before long.
