The Ruthless Aggression Era was an interesting time for WWE as the likes of The Rock and Steve Austin who were stalwarts in WWE for many years had come away from the squared circle. They were still involved in the product but not regularly. Nevertheless, John Cena and Batista were the beneficiaries of the Attitude Era transitioning into the Ruthless Aggression Era as they became established main eventers.

Before the Ruthless Aggression Era came to an end with WWE switching over to the PG Era, there were still some high-level main events on offer. WWE flexed its muscle with the firepower that it had at its disposal, and fans were treated to some exceptional main events.

10 Triple H Vs. Randy Orton - Judgment Day 2008

Randy Orton was looking to regain the WWE Championship from Triple H inside the confines of a steel cage in the main event of Judgment Day 2008. The Viper was smart as he attempted to escape the cage early on but it was to no avail.

This was a decent WWE Championship match but both were capable of producing much better. Nevertheless, the Cerebral Assassin nailed Orton with a sickening chair shot, and he finished off Orton with a Pedigree en route to a successful title defense.

9 Batista Vs. Edge Vs. The Undertaker - Armageddon 2007

Batista had his hands full in his World Heavyweight Championship title defense against Edge and The Undertaker in a triple threat match at Armageddon 2007. Their match was chaotic, and there was tons of interference with Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins disguised as Edge getting involved in proceedings.

All three men had their chances to win, and Undertaker was close to reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship. He executed the Tombstone on Batista but the Rated-R Superstar nailed Undertaker with a couple of chair shots and he covered Batista to become a four-time World Champion.

8 Triple H Vs. Edge - The Great American Bash 2008

Triple H and Edge slugged it out over the WWE Championship at The Great American Bash 2008. The Game and Edge are two magnificent in-ring performers, and it's a shame that their paths didn't cross often in one-on-one matches.

This was a back-and-forth encounter and Edge was in the ascendency for large portions of it. Nonetheless, despite his efforts, it wasn't enough as the Game sealed the deal with his patented Pedigree.

7 Randy Orton Vs. Triple H Vs. JBL Vs. John Cena - Backlash 2008

Randy Orton defended the WWE Championship against four former WWE Champions in Triple H, JBL, and John Cena in a fatal-4-way elimination match at Backlash 2008. Orton was six months strong into his WWE Championship reign and he was looking for his title run to continue.

As expected, Orton and Triple H were the final two participants with JBL and Cena falling by the wayside. They went toe-to-toe in some superb exchanges but the Game battled past Orton to become a 12-time WWE World Champion.

6 Edge Vs. The Undertaker- One Night Stand 2008

The rivalry between Edge and The Undertaker dominated SmackDown's side of things in 2008, and they clashed over the vacant World Heavyweight Championship in a TLC match at One Night Stand. It was the first time that Undertaker competed in a TLC match but Edge was a master of this type of match.

La Familia couldn't keep their noses out of this one and they interfered throughout. Edge put Undertaker through the table after he leaped off the broadcast table with a splash. However, Undertaker executed the Last Ride with Edge going through a couple of tables and he chokeslammed him onto a ladder. Nonetheless, Edge had a refusal to stay down as he pushed Undertaker off the ladder with Undertaker crashing and burning through the tables set up outside. Edge retrieved the World Heavyweight Championship kickstarting his fifth run as a WWE World Champion.

5 Triple H Vs. John Cena - Night Of Champions 2008

There was a blockbuster match between Triple H and John Cena over the WWE Championship at Night of Champions 2008. If Cena prevailed, the WWE Championship would return to Raw as the Game was moving over to SmackDown as a result of the draft.

This match is often overlooked since their match at WrestleMania 22 is spoken about more often. Nevertheless, this was a fantastic wrestling match with Cena attempting to put Triple H away with the STF but it was to no avail. Ultimately, the Cerebral Assassin retained the WWE Championship with the Pedigree.

4 Triple H Vs. JBL Vs. Jeff Hardy Vs. Umaga Vs. Shawn Michaels Vs. Chris Jericho - No Way Out 2008

The winner of the Elimination Chamber match between Triple H, JBL, Jeff Hardy, Umaga, Shawn Michaels, and Chris Jericho would earn a WWE Championship match at No Way Out 2008. They knocked it out of the park in a fantastic match with Jericho and Michaels getting things underway.

Hardy was right at home in this match as he executed a Swanton Bomb from the top of the pod. Hardy and Triple H were the final two participants, and their exchanges were outstanding. The Charismatic Enigma didn't make life easy for the Game, but Triple H found a way through with his patented Pedigree enough to get the job done.

3 Royal Rumble Match - Royal Rumble 2008

The 2008 Royal Rumble match was full of firepower and there wasn't a better way to get things started with the 2007 winner The Undertaker and runner-up Shawn Michaels kicking it off. The Rumble took place in Madison Square Garden, and legendary boxing ring announcer Michael Buffer introduced both men.

This Rumble was perfectly constructed and other stars including Kane and CM Punk were also involved in the Rumble. However, when the clock struck zero for the 30th entrant, John Cena returned ahead of schedule. Cena was in the final three alongside former Rumble winners Triple H and Batista. The Animal was removed from the equation but Cena connected with the AA on Triple H to tumble him over the top rope to secure his first Rumble win.

2 Batista Vs. The Undertaker - Survivor Series 2007

The feud between Batista and The Undertaker was superb, and they took their rivalry to the next level by competing in a Hell in a Cell match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series 2007. Two heavy hitters went hammer and tongs in a war of attrition.

The Animal showed the effects of this match as he bled profusely. Undertaker was close to recapturing the World Heavyweight Championship but Edge made a shocking return and he attacked the Phenom. Batista was battered and bloodied but he managed to retain the World Heavyweight Championship all thanks to Edge.

1 Edge Vs. The Undertaker - WrestleMania 24

Edge headlined WrestleMania for the first time in his career, and he defended the World Heavyweight Championship against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 24. This match was off the charts, and both men brought their A-games. It was Undertaker's first main event at WrestleMania in 11 years, and he was looking to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the second year in succession at WrestleMania.

The Ultimate Opportunist had La Familia get involved but the Demon of Death Valley fended them off. He executed the Tombstone but Edge kicked out. Ultimately, Edge connected with a spear but Undertaker played possum by cinching in Hell's Gate and that was enough to secure the World Heavyweight Championship.
