10 Diva Search host

The Miz and Maryse at the Diva Search

The Miz was introduced to WWE television as the host of the Diva Search competition in its third season. Fans heckled Miz following a few embarrassing botches and mistakes on the microphone in the early weeks.

Wrestlers already had it out for Miz based on his reality show role on the Real World giving him a faster track to WWE. This start to his career just made it worse as the odds were stacked against him when transitioning to the actual wrestling side of things.

9 Tough Enough contestant

WWE didn’t officially sign The Miz until he took part in their Tough Enough contest of hopeful wrestlers competing for a contract. The concept was no longer its own show and just took place on Smackdown in weekly segments.

Miz did his best to get over, but the segments just made everyone look foolish. Daniel Puder won the contest and failed with all the pressure put on him. Miz lucked out by losing and making this a forgotten part of his career.

8 Face run with Ric Flair

The Miz turned face after finding success as a heel when Ric Flair became his mentor. WWE was trying to find things for Flair to do during his time after retirement still hoping to remain active. Miz received Flair’s endorsement to start doing the figure four leglock.

The run was a huge failure as Miz lost any credibility he still had left as a potential main eventer. Miz looked foolish and was booed quite often. WWE dropped the ball with the poor booking for a character that just didn’t fit.

7 The Miztourage

Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas received one of the bigger breaks of their main roster runs when working with The Miz. WWE was pushing Miz as a great heel again receiving huge heat from the audience most weeks.

Dallas and Axel worked on one of the WWE Films with Miz to inspire the concept of them helping him. The Miztourage was formed with the new tag team helping Miz steal matches. This wasn’t a top run for Miz’s career, but he still did a good job in the role.

6 Face run vs Shane McMahon

WWE tried to make The Miz a face again in 2019 when he teamed up with Shane McMahon to win the Smackdown Tag Team Championship. Miz did get more support this time as a face since Shane turned heel to start a feud.

The storyline became too convoluted with Shane getting too much television time. Miz proved he could get cheers as a face for the first time in WWE, but there was little overall potential for him in the role. WWE gave up when fans cheered Bray Wyatt against him.

The Miz finally started to break out when getting a real chance in WWE's version of ECW. The third WWE show served as a branch between bigger roles on Raw or Smackdown and the developmental system. Miz gained momentum as a rising star thanks to his impressive heel work.

ECW helped Miz prove that he could be a player for WWE when things weren’t looking as good with the slow start. Miz won over a few important WWE minds here that led to bigger changes in his career when moving to Raw.

4 Tag team run with John Morrison

John Morrison and The Miz formed instant chemistry when teaming up on the ECW brand. Both heel characters perfectly formed a stellar tag team with their similar gimmicks merging. Miz and Morrison thrived even more on the other brands.

WWE loved their promo segments and creative concepts like The Dirt Sheet talk show. Miz found one of his best friends in wrestling and made huge strides forward during this chapter of his career. Morrison will always be linked to Miz and vice versa for the rest of their careers.

3 Reuniting with John Morrison

WWE re-signing John Morrison to return in early 2020 created the perfect opportunity for him to reunite with The Miz. The end of Miz’s face run saw Morrison convincing him to revert into his heel character to get back together in the tag division.

Morrison and Miz found success winning the Smackdown Tag Team Championship within a few months of the reunion. The duo made a few hilarious music videos mocking their opponents to stand out in a new way. Miz talked Morrison into coming back to WWE to have fun together again since they remained close throughout the years.

2 Reuniting with Maryse

The Miz’s marriage with Maryse was well known in WWE circles even though the couple never worked together consistently during her first run. Maryse returned to WWE in 2016 solely in the role of Miz’s manager without plans to wrestle.

Zack Ryder’s WrestleMania 32 Intercontinental Championship win ended after one night when Maryse helped Miz steal the title. Miz instantly found his greatest success in many years with Maryse becoming the perfect heel manager. The best IC Title reigns from Miz came during this chapter of his career.

1 Hated top heel

The Miz and John Cena

The end of the tag team run of The Miz and John Morrison allowed Miz to break out on his own. Vince McMahon became a believer in Miz as he was placed into a bigger role and was among the top wrestlers to promote the brand.

Miz moved up the ladder both figuratively and literally when winning the Money in the Bank contract in 2010. WWE went all the way with him by having Miz win the WWE Championship from Randy Orton and even main event WrestleMania 27 vs John Cena. This was clearly the peak of Miz’s career and his best version.
