Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to host NBC's Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, and the timing is great for the WWE, as getting a familiar WWE face on national television the night before WrestleMania is a happy coincidence. The Rock is hosting SNL to coincide with the promotion of "Furious 7", the upcoming installment of the Fast and the Furious film franchise. The movie debuts on April 3rd.
There is ongoing speculation as to why the WWE themselves are promoting it, as it's taking place the same night as their Hall of Fame ceremony. In fact it was included in WWE's promotion for WrestleMania week. The speculation is that The Great One will make some sort of WWE related announcement soon, possibly to announce when he's getting back in the ring. There are ongoing rumors that the WWE would still like to have a Rock versus Brock Lesnar main event at a WrestleMania. After all, that was the original plan for WrestleMania XXX and possibly WrestleMania 31.
It'd be a good idea if WWE intends to break the attendance record at AT&T Stadium in Dallas next year.
Another hint is Paul Heyman squeezing in jabs on The Rock in recent promos. Lesnar took a shot at The Rock as well on Raw last week, citing his win over him at SummerSlam 2002.
In a recent interview with USA Today, The Rock said the following on possibly facing Lesnar at next year's WrestleMania:
"In Dallas? Possibly. There’s a lot of things that are up in the air. Lot of things are up in the air. We’ll see. I would love that rematch, I would love… whatever it is, you want to create something that’s going to be special, memorable, especially in Dallas at that stadium you have a shot at breaking the attendance record. It’s got to be special.”
