Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of the greatest superstars in the history of professional wrestling, and some can easily argue that he belongs on the WWE Mt. Rushmore.

The Rock's WWE career didn't last all that long compared to other legends. He took a hiatus at the end of 2003 and left in 2004 in order to embark on a Hollywood career. Though Rock would come back and wrestle sporadically from 2011 to '13, fans to this day remain disappointed that they never got to see him go up against a handful of wrestling greats.

Here are 10 wrestling legends that Rock never faced in a singles match, and what the outcome could have been.

10 Vince McMahon

The Rock and the WWE chairman appeared on countless segments together during the Attitude Era. But remarkably, the two men never managed to engage in a one-on-one showdown.

Of course, Vince's main nemesis was none other than 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, whom The Rock also feuded with on numerous occasions. Still, it's hard to believe that WWE never pitted these two against one another.

Possible outcome: This would have been an easy pinfall victory for The Rock. Unless Austin or somebody interfered on Vince's behalf, there's no way the chairman would take down the People's Champion.

9 The Godfather

The Godfather was part of The Rock's Nation of Domination stable (under the Kama Mustafa ring name). These WWE legends competed together in a handful of tag team matches as well.

Rock, Chyna, and Billy Gunn teamed up to defeat Val Venis, Steven Richards, Bull Buchanan, and Godfather (then "The Goodfather) in a handicap tag match on the Oct. 24, 2000 episode of SmackDown. But that was the closest we would get to seeing Rock go up against the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame inductee.

Possible outcome: This too would be a win for The Rock. Mid-card talents like Godfather almost never defeated main event talents during the Attitude Era, so it's hard to envision anything but a win for Rock here.

8 Roman Reigns

How fun would this be? A showdown between these cousins and World Champions who have both carried the torch as "the guy" in WWE.

As many of you will recall, The Rock appeared at the end of the 2015 Royal Rumble to celebrate with Reigns, who had previously won the Rumble. However, the former announced his retirement from wrestling this year, which spoiled the chance of a dream showdown against Reigns.

Possible outcome: During Reigns' push as the main guy, he defeated legends like John Cena, Triple H, Undertaker, and Brock Lesnar. Surely, WWE would continue to try and get him over by handing Reigns a victory over his cousin. We'll give The Big Dog a pinfall win over his cousin.

7 Daniel Bryan

During The Rock's brief return to WWE (from 2011 to 2013), he mainly feuded with John Cena, The Miz, and CM Punk. A showdown with Daniel Bryan - one of the top faces in the company during this point - would have been something for the ages.

But unfortunately, WWE just never managed to go through with it. They were too invested in The Rock's feuds with Punk and Cena, while Bryan was working heavily against Triple H and The Authority.

Possible outcome: This is a tough one to call, but considering that Cena was the only person who beat The Rock in his short return to WWE, we have to give Bryan a loss here. Officials obviously wanted to make The Rock look strong and unstoppable throughout his feud with Cena, and giving Bryan a win would have affected his look a bit.

6 Batista

By the time Batista debuted with WWE in 2002, The Rock's tenure with the company was quickly coming to an end. As such, the timing wasn't there for them to engage in a singles feud.

That said, they squared off in a tag team match at WrestleMania XX - where Evolution members Batista, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair took down Rock and Mick Foley in a tag team match.

How fun it would have been to see a pair of major wrestler-turned-actors go toe to toe in the ring. So, who would come away victorious?

Possible outcome: We're going to give The Rock a win here. During his final run in WWE, it was extremely rare for Rock to lose a match cleanly. Batista was far from a main event talent at the time, so there's no way he would have defeated the People's Champion.

5 Matt Hardy

The Rock had a showdown against Jeff Hardy on the Apr. 7, 2003 episode of Monday Night Raw, but he never once went up against the eldest Hardy brother.

Of course, Matt was mainly involved in the tag team division with brother Jeff (The Hardy Boyz) during The Rock's tenure as a main event superstar. By the time the duo had split in 2002, The Rock was slowly working his way out of WWE and towards a movie career.

Possible outcome: Same deal as most other entries on this list. The Rock wouldn't lose to a mid-card talent here. Matt was never pushed as a main eventer in singles competition, so there would never be a realistic scenario for him to defeat Rock

4 Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio joined WWE in 2002, and he was used in the cruiserweight, tag team, and mid-card divisions. As such, an opportunity never opened up for Mysterio to go against The Rock.

Not only that, but Mysterio wasn't pushed as a main eventer until 2006 - when he won the Royal Rumble en route to becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 22. Of course, The Rock was long gone from WWE by the time Mysterio was a main event star.

Possible outcome: Surprise, surprise. We have to give The Rock a victory here. It would be an incredible match full of excellent pace and technicality, but at the end of it all, Rock would come out on top.

3 Randy Orton

Other than the aforementioned handicap match at WrestleMania XX, The Rock and Randy Orton didn't engage in a match of any kind. A singles showdown could have been a sight to behold, but it just never played out.

WWE had the opportunity to do it during The Rock's return to the company. Yes, he was busy feuding with CM Punk and Cena, but there were plenty of opportunities to give him the one match against Orton.

Possible outcome: Let's give Orton the upset win here. They don't call him "The Legend Killer" for nothing. Orton has always been at his best as a heel, and a victory over The Rock would have added another illustrious chapter to his career.

2 Sting

During The Rock's rise to main event status, Sting was enjoying a run as the top babyface in WCW during the Monday Night Wars. And of course, Sting wound up signing with TNA instead of WWE, after WCW met its demise and was bought out by Vince McMahon.

When Sting finally debuted with WWE in 2014, The Rock had already left the company a second time as he continued his Hollywood career. Sting retired in 2016 after suffering a neck injury in his match against Seth Rollins at the 2015 Night of Champions pay-per-view.

Possible outcome: Well, we saw how Vince McMahon treated Sting when he joined WWE. In fact, many other WCW superstars that came over following the company's demise were often buried by Vince's superstars. Even if you think Sting should win this fantasy match, everybody knows that Vince would have given this one to The Rock.

1 Shawn Michaels

There are three primary dream matches that fans always asked for, but never received: Sting vs Undertaker, Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan, and The Rock vs Shawn Michaels.

How did a showdown never happen, considering these were two massive stars during the Attitude Era? Well, it's been suggested that The Rock simply refused to work with The Showstopper. This seems like the only logical explanation because it's impossible to imagine why Vince wouldn't want this showdown to take place.

Possible outcome: It would have depended on the circumstances (who was a heel, who was a face, etc.). Michaels had no problem dropping big matches to guys like John Cena, Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan. But here, he gets the win over The Rock - simply because he was the more established wrestler and veteran during the Attitude Era.
