The Rock recently announced his retirement from professional wrestling, but that doesn't mean that he won't be back on WWE programming again in the near future.

So far, the People's Champion hasn't been announced for the Oct. 4 SmackDown 20th anniversary special - which also marks the first episode under Fox. But there appears to be a strong possibility of the wrestling icon returning for the big show.

According to a report from Anthony Crupi of Ad Age, WWE is keeping some of the appearances for the Oct. 4 show "under wraps," and to "keep an eye peeled" for The Rock. Crupi added that Rock "may very well look to pop in" to promote his latest film, Jungle Cruise.

WWE has already stacked up on returning legends for the 20th anniversary show. The list includes Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley Mark Henry, Trish Stratus, Booker T and Goldberg. Adding The Rock would only make that episode even more special.

The Rock has made numerous appearances in WWE since his loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 29, including the 2015 Royal Rumble to congratulate Roman Reigns on his victory.

Rock also showed up at WrestleMania 31, where he brought Ronda Rousey out from the crowd to confront Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. He was also at the big show a year later, confronting The Wyatt Family while finishing off Erick Rowan in a six-second match. Cena later appeared to help Rock fight off the rest of the family.

That was The Rock's last live appearance on WWE, but we might not have to wait much longer to see him electrify the crowd once again. Even when he appears in a non-wrestling capacity, The Rock's presence makes every show that much better.

We Should Get The Rock, One Way Or Another

Even if The Rock doesn't appear at the 20th anniversary show, it's possible that he'll at least be shown through a broadcast. He wasn't there for the 10th anniversary episode of SmackDown, but WWE aired a promo that he had recorded earlier. They could always do that for the Oct. 4 show if The Rock doesn't attend, so we should see him on the historic day no matter what.
