Apparently, even though TLC is only days away from taking place, there is a reason WWE has only announced one or two matches for the card. It’s a plan the company might implement moving forward.

Long gone are the days that pay-per-views allowed WWE to sink or swim in terms of a successful PPV event. With the ushering in of the WWE Network and only a small portion of the WWE Universe consuming shows via the traditional PPV model, other measuring sticks are more important. Vince McMahon reportedly now feels that these shows are more about network sign-ups and not pay-per-view buys.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, patterns of sign-ups reportedly show that subscriptions are the biggest on the last day of the show, thus there is no need to announce matches far in advance. This explains why WWE hasn’t announced a single match for TLC, with the exception of Roman Reigns vs Baron Corbin which was announced Friday afternoon.

While it is expected a couple of matches may be announced on Friday’s SmackDown, WWE sees no rush in announcing the match card and anything that might be part of the card is merely speculation at this point.

Expected matches include Charlotte Flair & RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch vs. WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Kairi Sane & Asuka in the first-ever Women's TLC Tag Team match for the show, as well as Rusev vs. Bobby Lashley. These matches will likely take place, but WWE can change them as it appears they might do with the originally planned Daniel Bryan vs The Fiend rematch which might now be a Fiend vs The Miz Match.

Expect More of this From WWE

Whats happening with TLC might be how WWE approaches building future PPV cards. Not announcing matches until just before showtime could become a regular thing.

The one exception might be bigger shows like WrestleMania.
