TNA has seen several changes over its two decades of existence. It began as NWA-TNA due to working with the National Wrestling Alliance, including using their titles. They broke away from them in 2007 to establish their own championships. Since then, TNA has also been rebranded as Impact Wrestling, and also had a brief GFW connection. That makes the lineage of their championships somewhat complicated.

While it's easy to look at just the history of the Impact titles, TNA's legacy goes further than that, meaning also counting the NWA titles. It's interesting how short some reigns were as many teams held the titles several times, but a few reigns barely added up to a couple of months. Even some of the best teams in TNA's history didn't hold them for that long. Yet a few reigns are very good and lengthy and quite impressive in their length. These are the ten longest tag title reigns in TNA's history as a reminder of how this company always excelled in the tag division.

10 LAX (GFW reign) - 169 Days

LAX

This is a bit complicated. The Hardys had been Impact tag champs but then left the company and the belts behind. LAX (then Ortiz and Santana) won a special challenge match for the vacant titles.

This was during the time Jeff Jarrett was trying to get his Global Force Wrestling promotion going, so LAX won those titles, and for a brief time, they were simply the GFW belts. Just after LAX dropped the belts to OVE, the entire GFW thing fell apart to make these "unified" titles almost meaningless.

9 LAX (2nd Reign) - 175 Days

LAX in Impact Wrestling

Over their time in TNA, LAX has shifted in members and a few different names but still a very good team. Hernandez and Homicide were the original LAX who beat AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels for the NWA tag titles in 2006. That reign was only over a month, but when LAX got the titles back at Bound for Glory, they enjoyed a fine reign of nearly six months.

The pair were terrific in brawls and held the titles against a lot of competition. It ended in the awful "electrified" cage match with Team 3D at Lockdown 2007, yet the region before it was good.

8 The Motor City Machine Guns - 182 Days

MCMG

It's still odd one of the single best teams in TNA history only had one reign in their primes. For years, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley were a fantastic pair, putting on tremendous matches but kept coming up short trying to win the belts.

At long last, at Victory Road 2010, the MCMG got the belts. They had a good reign too, with great battles against Team 3D and others. It finally ended to Beer Money at Genesis 2011. The MCMG would have to wait until 2020 to finally have another run as TNA tag champions.

7 AJ Styles & Tomko - 184 Days

Styles and Tomko

On paper, AJ Styles and Tomko as champs working with Christian could have worked. But it was marred first by how the usually competent AJ was now portrayed as a total idiot. They started by beating Ron Killings and Pacman Jones's infamous team where Pacman couldn't actually wrestle.

To be fair, the two were an effective team against Team 3D and others, but the comedy angles were bad. Their lengthy reign ended losing to Kazarian and Eric Young as his "Super Eric" persona. When Young refused to confirm his identity, the titles were vacated, so while lengthy, it's also a pretty lame reign.

6 The Wolves (5th Reign) - 186 Days

After tearing it up in Ring of Honor, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards entered TNA with high expectations. They lived up to them as the Wolves would hold the tag titles five times and feud with every team in the promotion. Interestingly, like other multi-time title holders, the Wolves' longest reign was their last one.

It began beating the makeshift team of Brian Myers and Trevor Lee in July of 2015. The Wolves were impressive with the belts before dropping them to Beer Money. They would drift into singles work after that, yet this reign was a reminder of how great they were.

5 Decay - 197 Days

A very offbeat team, Abyss, and Crazzy Steve were joined by Black Taurus and Rosemary, with the latter holding the Knockouts title. They won the titles at Sacrifice 2016 over Beer Money in a "Valley of Shadows" match.

The highlight of their reign was facing the "Broken Hardys" in some wild matches. It all culminated in the Hardys ending Decay's run at Bound for Glory in what was briefly the last bout for the original IMpact tag titles. It was pretty a crazy run in more ways than one.

4 Beer Money (4th Reign) - 212 Days

Beer Money

Beer Money is a great case of two guys just thrown together who ended up clicking as a great team. Cowboy James Storm and rich guy Bobby Roode made a terrific pairing that would hold multiple TNA titles. Their longest reign was their fourth, beginning by ending The Motor City Machine Guns' reign at Genesis 2011.

The pair had an excellent long reign, being part of Fortune and moving from heels to faces. It ended in a loss to Mexican America, and not long afterward, the pair split, but it was very impressive how their last reign was their best.

3 America's Most Wanted (6th reign) - 250 Days

americas-most-wanted-tna

Chris Harris and James Storm were TNA's first great tag team. America's Most Wanted clicked with epic feuds with XXX and Team Canada. Ironically, their longest reign was also their last. The pair turned heel in 2005 to ally with Jeff Jarrett, then ended the Naturals' six-month title reign.

AMW was top-notch as a heel team facing numerous challenges before finally dropping the belt to AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels at Slammiversary 2006. They split not long afterward, but what a way to go out.

2 LAX (3rd Reign) - 261 Days

Thanks to TNA's nutty tape delays, some fans would believe this title reign started in June of 2018. Instead, Santana and Ortiz won the belts a full two months earlier off of Z&E.

In this period, Santana and Oritz would be managed by Eddie Kingston only to turn on him when he revealed he had set up an attack on Konan. This led to Kingston joining the original LAX, Hernandez and Homicide as the OGz. Despite that, LAX held onto the belts until January of 2019 to mark their longest reign.

1 The North - 380 Days

The North Tag Team Champions

At just over a solid year, Ethan Page and Josh Alexander have the honor of being the longest-reigning champions in TNA history. After cutting their teeth in ROH, the pair joined TNA in 2017, although it took a while for them to become partners. They defeated LAX for the titles in July of 2019 and went on for an incredibly dominant reign.

Granted, a reason it lasted longer was TNA briefly suspending shows during the spring of 2020, but it's still impressive that it took until July of 2020 for the North to drop the belts to the Motor City Machine Guns. They actually got them back a few months later for a brief reign to prove themselves as one of TNA's best teams ever.
