At its very core, wrestling is an entertainment business. It creates stars and it changes lives but just as fast as these stars can be made, they can also be replaced.

Wrestling is an industry that will never be controlled by one person, many people have walked into WWE thinking they are irreplaceable but the company has still managed to continue without them because honestly, no one is bigger than the company itself and everyone is replaceable.

Many stars enjoy the spotlight a little bit too much and they become addicted to it, while others find it hard to understand why other people are so interested in them and their personal life now that they are living their dream.

This leads to a lot of problems for some stars as drug addictions and dependency are the only way they can get themselves through the day and to the arena that night, but drugs rarely solve anything and with WWE’s random drug testing, it seems they will create more problems than they will solve.

Stars can go from hero to zero in a matter of days and sometimes it is hard for them to find their way back to their feet. Some stars career is a whirlwind romance that ends before they realize and then they are forced to pick up the pieces and carry on with a normal life.

This list consists of the people who managed to lose everything and how they found their way back from this.

Shawn Michaels is widely considered to be one of WWE’s best wrestlers of all time, but it wasn’t always like that. Back in 1998, Michaels suffered a terrible back injury and was forced out of action for almost four years when he became addicted to drugs.

He documents the severity of this drug problem and the fact that it nearly cost him his life and his family in his book “Wrestling For My Life.” He also talks about how he managed to overcome the addiction and go on to have successful second stint with the company from which he is now enjoying retirement.

He still makes sporadic appearances on WWE TV and has his own show on the Outdoor Channel, Shawn Michaels' MacMillan River Adventures.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts had one of the more interesting careers in WWE history, as he had one of the most memorable WWE careers despite never winning a championship and will always be remembered for his pet snake, Damien.

That being said, Jake became addicted to many drugs to the extent where he was dependent on them on a day to day basis. Luckily, his friend Diamond Dallas Page stepped in and helped Roberts to overcome the addiction to the extent where he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014 and is now much happier and healthier. Hr was recently in the news as he offered Johnny Manziel help for his recent drug issues. Listen to the man, Johnny Football!

Scott Hall found fame during WWE’s Monday Night Wars and was one of the founding members of the nWo. He captivated fans and would have rose through the company if it wasn’t for his one weakness.

Hall was fighting his own battle against a crippling drug and alcohol addiction, one that he came to losing so many times. This addiction cost him a career that could have been great, but once again thanks to Diamond Dallas Page, Scott Hall found his way back. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and has made many WWE appearances since and it seems he is back on the straight and narrow. He also makes appearances on the Indie wrestling circuit and looks much healthier than in years past. The Bad Guy has seemingly gone good!

10 10. Perry Saturn

Perry Saturn’s story is one of the more interesting ones you'll ever hear, Saturn had a successful two year stint with WWE following his jump from WCW in 2000 and played a key role in WWE during that time.

Following an altercation where he tried to save a woman in distress, he was shot and this then led to a spiral of events where Saturn became homeless and addicted to various drugs over the course of the next few years. He completely removed himself from the public eye, before resurfacing in 2009, looking healthy and returning to the Indie circuit a couple of years later, where he continues to ply his trade. We couldn't be happier for him.

Joey Mercury is currently a producer behind the scenes with WWE, but Joey’s story could have ended differently if CM Punk didn’t step in.

Mercury suffered an injury at the hands of The Hardy’s and became addicted to pain killers, though he claims to have be using other drugs since he was 15. Sadly, this addiction cost him his job and almost his house until CM Punk stepped in and bought his house before helping him overcome his drug problem and land further employment with WWE.

Mercury has since appeared occasionally on WWE TV as a part of J&J Security with Jamie Noble and he continues to work behind the scenes.

Lex Luger had a whirlwind WWE career and his popularity with fans took a nosedive during his public relationship with Miss Elizabeth. Their many altercations and her untimely death are a sad tale, but they aren't the only hardships Luger has faced. He's had substance abuse issues, along with a spinal issue that confined him to a wheelchair for a time.

Luckily, Luger has turned his life around and he has since written a book about his career, including all of the worst points. Luger credits his switch to Christianity as one of the main things that managed to save him.

Today, he works with WWE on their Wellness Policy while publicly speaking to help others with similar issues.

Jeff Hardy is considered to have been one of the most exciting and unpredictable superstars of the last generation. Hardy rose to fame with his daredevil style and innovative offense before he was released by WWE in 2003 when it became clear that he had a drug problem.

Hardy cleaned himself up and was rehired by WWE in 2006 and this is where he finally lifted the WWE Championship. Once again his addiction resurfaced and Hardy left WWE again in 2009 before a short stint in prison showed him how far he could fall. Hardy cleaned up his act in order to give his daughter the family she deserves and continues to wrestle for TNA on a smaller scale. There have been rumors of a potential reunion with the WWE and we can't deny that we'd love to see The Charismatic Enigma take flight at WrestleMania one more time. Sadly, his recent contract extension with TNA has likely killed that.

Sean Waltman found fame as a member of controversial group D-Generation X, but when the group began to wind down, X-Pac found himself living a life on the Independent Circuit and following  a serious altercation with his girlfriend at the time, Waltman became suicidal.

Luckily he was found in time and with the help of real life friends Triple H and Kevin Nash, it seems Waltman is back on the right path and he even appeared at last year’s WrestleMania with his old stable buddies. He still makes appearances on the Indie scene and had his own weekly podcast.

5 5. Virgil

The Million Dollar Man’s personal assistant finally broke free from Ted DiBiase and managed to go on a small face run when he began feuding with his boss, before his career reached a complete standstill.

Virgil was released by the company after this, and after a bland stint in WCW, Virgil faded away and now can be seen at many Comic-Con events where he shows up and sells photographs to fans. He has also been seen selling photos at subway stations which gives the impression that he is still having significant money troubles. At least his Twitter page is hilarious...

Marty Jennetty found fame as part of The Rockers with Shawn Michaels, until he failed to control his drug addictions which harmed his career.

Following Michaels turn on him, he was released and resigned from the company countless times over the next few years while he battled personal problems that left him depressed and suicidal.

Luckily, he seems to have turned his life around and Jannetty now works on the Independent circuit.

3 3. Sunny

Sunny was considered to have been one of the most attractive women in wrestling in the 1990s and one of the first ever WWE Divas. After a short run in the company, she was released by WWE because of real life problems with Sable, along with substance abuse issues, and it seems Sunny’s life went on a downward spiral.

Sadly, Sunny's story doesn't have a happy ending like most other entries on this list. In recent years, Sunny has been offering live 'Skype sessions', put her Hall of Fame ring on eBay and has been in trouble with the law. Recently, she agreed to a deal with Vivid Entertainment to make adult movies, which will give her a steady income she can rely on for a while. Because of it, she has taken her HOF ring down from eBay.

2 2. Ric Flair

The dirtiest player in the game has had his fair share of being played and has become notorious for his playboy lifestyle. He has also managed to lose a lot of his fortune to various divorce proceedings after being married and divorced a shocking four times.

With most of his fortune squandered away on alcohol and women, Flair was forced to return to WWE and continue to compete at the tender age of 63 until his retirement match against HBK in 2008. Instead of retiring, Flair went over to TNA and continued to perform until 2012. Today, he still makes appearances for WWE alongside his daughter Charlotte, who is the current Divas Champion.

1 1. Chyna

Chyna was once one of the best female performers in WWE, she was dating Triple H and seemed to have a lengthy career ahead of her, until Triple H turned to Stephanie McMahon. Chyna was then released from or left the company, depending on the side of the story you're hearing, which sent her on a downward spiral.

She was reported to have suffered with addictions and depression before turning to different medias for work, like adult entertainment. Luckily, Chyna seems to be doing a lot better these days and is teaching English as a second language in Japan while continuing to petition for a return to WWE.
