Life in the World Wrestling Entertainment changed in many ways during the 1990s. One noticeable change that was made was that women's wrestlers, performers and other managers were eventually all grouped into one category known as “Divas.” This distinction ultimately spread over to the company's title scene, as the “Divas Championship” was introduced in storylines. That title has been controversial among fans over the years, as some diehard viewers of the product would like to see a return of the Women's Championship. That, however, is a different story for a different piece.

Part of the shift in the way that women were portrayed on WWE programming in the 1990s and 2000s had to do with the simple business logic that sex sells. The growth of the Internet coupled with the introduction of the “Attitude Era” turned Divas who had previously been just characters on shows into sex symbols used to attract fans to websites and also to sell magazines. While certain aspects of this era may, decades after the fact, seem sleazy to those who were not following the WWE at the time, the company merely made business decisions regarding certain Divas.

There is some humor at the thought of a young man being able to bring a WWE Diva home to meet his mother. On the one hand, that Diva is technically a television star from either the past or from today, which means that she has had at least somewhat of a successful career. On the other hand, however, there are plenty of cases of WWE Divas being involved in some things that would probably make good ol' mom less than pleased. Odds are that the passionate WWE fan could probably guess at least a few of the Divas that you won't want to bring home to mother anytime soon.

15 15. Kharma

There is nothing all that offensive about the Diva who was known as Kharma in the WWE and Awesome Kong/Amazing Kong when working for other promotions. The fact of that matter is that Kharma may just frighten your mother were you to bring the Diva home. Kharma has, throughout the years, been a dominant female wrestler who has shown time and time again that she can take care of business against male wrestlers. Perhaps you could send mom a postcard while you and Kharma are away on a trip somewhere. Nobody, after all, wants to make mom nervous.

14 14. Nicole Bass

The bodybuilder who had a brief stint with the WWE back in the day may also, like Kharma, make your mother feel uneasy. Nicole Bass has also been in headlines for reasons that make her the kind of woman you probably would not want to introduce to mom. Bass was arrested in the summer of 2015 after she was accused of shoplifting groceries. The former Extreme Championship Wrestling performer is also a featured caller into The Howard Stern Show, which may, on its own, be enough to convince you that bringing Bass home to mother is not a great idea.

13 13. Mickie James

via prowrestling.wikia.com

Mickie James ultimately became a respected performer for her in-ring work in both the WWE and also Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. With that said, there are several legitimate reasons why you won't want to bring her home to meet your mother. For starters, there are certain pictures of James out there that can be found with relative ease, pictures that won't be linked here, that probably won't make mom happy. Then, there was that whole storyline involving James and Trish Stratus that, while entertaining, was not all that flattering to either woman by the time the whole thing was said and done.

12 12. Melina

One would hope your mother would have an ability to point out that a Diva may not be the best woman for you. For such an example, we present Melina. Former WWE Diva Gail Kim once took to Twitter in 2011 to refer to Melina as being “emotionally unstable.” It was later reported by Wrestling Observer journalist Dave Meltzer that WWE security turned Melina away at an event. The perception that has been put out there by some is that Melina was her own worst enemy while working for the WWE. Whether or not that is true could be debated, but do you want to take the risk?

11 11. Kelly Kelly

via onlineworldofwrestling.com

The gimmick with Kelly Kelly upon her official debut on the re-branded ECW show was that she was an exhibitionist who wanted to strip during television shows. Seriously. That and also the fact that she was not all that great of a worker inside of the ring was about all we knew about Kelly Kelly early into her WWE career. Kelly was eventually allowed to move on from that character, which was a positive for her. Still, the Internet and also probably the WWE Network never forgets such things. Looking back, it's no wonder why the woman now known as Barbie Blank decided to leave the WWE.

10 10. Ariel

You probably would not be in too much trouble with mother right away were you to introduce her to a woman named Ariel. Things may get a little awkward, though, once moms learns that the Diva is also known as Shelly Martinez. The Notorious Jewel DeNyle & Shelly Martinez is probably something that you would want to eliminate from the Internet before it was discovered by mother. Best of luck with that, though, as the Internet is as repetitive as it is unforgiving. We recommend simply referring to her as “Ariel” when around mom for as long as possible.

9 9. Lita

via hawtcelebs.com

Lita is widely respected as one of the best Divas of her time, an innovative wrestler who was a member of Team Xtreme and who deserves to be in the WWE Hall of fame. With that out of the way, we have three words for you on why you won't want to bring Lita home to mother: Live sex celebration. That segment with Edge would probably be enough to seal the deal there. Then, there was the whole real-life drama involving Lita, Edge and Matt Hardy, a tale that was portrayed on WWE programming. We nevertheless still love you, Lita, as your career was awesome.

8 8. Maria

The next six former WWE Divas all have one thing in common: They all posed for Playboy at least once during their runs in the WWE. That aside, Maria has done well to have a successful career for herself both in and out of the WWE. Maria has had work in companies such as Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. She has also been featured in television and movie roles. Wrestling fans can see Maria work these days in TNA Wrestling, where she serves as the valet and manager of Michael Bennett, who is Maria's husband. The two were married in 2014.

7 7. Candice Michelle

Candice Michelle deserves credit for putting in the work and becoming a better in-ring performer than many gave her credit for during her career. The former WWE Diva is one that you may not want to bring home to mother, though, for several reasons. Michelle did pose for Playboy during her stint in the company. She is also listed as having appeared in Hotel Erotica. Her other projects outside of the ring include Michelle serving as one of the “Go Daddy Girls” in Super Bowl advertisements that were, at the time, a little controversial. Michelle is now a mother of three.

6 6. Christy Hemme

Christy Hemme has had a relatively quiet and even normal public life when compared with some of the other WWE Divas mentioned in this piece. Hemme, who won the 2004 edition of the WWE Diva Search, has been a featured model for multiple publications in the past. Her wrestling career did not end when she left the WWE, as she found success as an announcer and member of the creative team in TNA Wrestling. Hemme did, however, once pose for Playboy when she was a WWE Diva, and thus she does makes the list this time around.

5 5. Ashley Massaro

A comment that was routinely made during her run in the WWE was that Ashley Massaro was acquired to be the WWE Divas equivalent to music star Avril Lavigne. That would have been fine had Ashley been a great or even good worker inside of the ring, but alas beggars cannot, in fact, be choosers. Along with posing for Playboy, Ashley was accused of working as an escort back in 2008. The former WWE Diva has, in the past, denied those allegations, but some might be willing to say that there has to be at least a little bit of fire where there is smoke.

4 4. Torrie Wilson

Perhaps your mother would get a kick out of the fact that Torrie Wilson had a relationship with New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez for several years. If not, however, there are several reasons why bringing Wilson home to mom might not be the best idea. For starters, Wilson has posed for Playboy in the past. Videos from storylines involving Wilson “feuding” with Dawn Marie and the woman who is next on the list can still be found on websites such as YouTube and Daily Motion, and those clips would probably not put a smile on mother's face.

3 3. Sable

via prowrestling.wikia.com
via prowrestling.wikia.com

Sable could be seen as the first true “Diva” in the history of the WWE. That is actually the main reason why you probably would not want to bring her home to mother. It is, almost two decades after she first appeared in the magazine, slightly humorous to think that Sable appeared in Playboy. She routinely either voluntarily stripped or had her clothes removed during television segments that did not leave all that muc to the imagination. There is now one other massive reason you won't be bringing Sable home to mom anytime soon: She is the real-life wife of Brock Lesnar.

2 2. Sunny

The final two former WWE Divas mentioned here could be neck-in-neck in this competition. We begin with Sunny, who has, these days, become just as known for her life outside of the ring as she was known for the work that she did while in the WWE back in the 1990s. Sunny has had multiple run-ins with the law over the past several years, and she even spent some time in jail. The member of the WWE Hall of Fame was in the news in January 2016 when she announced that she had signed a deal with Vivid Entertainment for an adult film. Odds are that she is not long for the WWE Hall of Fame.

1 1. Chyna

via imageevent.com
via imageevent.com

Posing for Playboy might not even make it as a reason for why you wouldn't bring Chyna home to mother considering all that she has been involved in over the years. Chyna has been featured on reality television shows, and she has also been open about her problems with substance abuse. Oh yeah. Chyna is now more known as an adult film actress than as a WWE performer. Her life outside of the ring will probably keep Chyna from ever being entered into the WWE Hall of fame and her life is also why she tops the list as a Diva you won't be bringing home to mom.
