WrestleMania is the WWE’s biggest show of the year every year, and while there are some years where the event is remembered as the year’s best in pro wrestling, there are others that seem to fall short. The matches are the biggest and most promoted of the year by the company, but there is also a lot of other elements that go into making WrestleMania the event that it has become.

The company is not afraid to go out of the box and bring in celebrities, as well as musicians, to make it a special event. Since its inception in 1985, the event has held its share of serious moments, as well as those that are a little more light-hearted and made you laugh out loud.

Some of these are just well written moments that the writers of the WWE deserve credit for. Others are moments that the talent themselves created with their natural ability in front of a crowd given a certain situation.

Today we do our best to break down those funny moments in Wrestlemania, giving you our list of “Top 15 Funniest WrestleMania Moments.”

15 15. The Fink Gets Hair – WrestleMania X

Howard Finkel, longtime WWE ring announcer, had forever been follicly challenged  (in other words, he was bald). While Finkel was never an in-ring performer on WWE television other, his memorable voice as a ring announcer make him a legend. He was given his big WM moment during WrestleMania X in Madison Square Garden. The ring announcer was given a hairpiece to try and cover up his dome by ‘Hair Club for Men’ President Sy Sperling. The announcer wore the hairpiece during the event, making for a rather odd and funny look for ‘The Fink.’

14 14. Pee-Wee Loves John Cena – WrestleMania XXVII

The former host of Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens), had not had many big on-screen roles since his arrest in 1991 in an adult theater. The character known as Pee-Wee was back on the screen during a guest stint on WWE’s Monday Night RAW and then was invited to be a part of WrestleMania XXVII for some backstage antics. Pee-Wee had a memorable interview with ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund and The Rock, in which he admitted to ‘The Great One’ that he was actually John Cena’s biggest fan. This news was much to the frustration of The Rock, who would take on Cena in the main event of the next two WrestleMania cards.

13 13. Liberace Dancing with The Rockettes – WrestleMania I

There were many memorable moments during the first WrestleMania, the event that kicked off the huge event that wrestling fans love to this day. Possibly the funniest moment of the first Mania was seeing singer and piano player Liberace being led down to the ring by the famed dance company. The Rockettes, and then doing the eye-high leg kick right in the middle of the ring. The moment gets relived often on WWE television leading up to WrestleMania just to show the reach the event, and company, has.

12 12. Big Show Goes Sumo – WrestleMania XXI

For whatever reason, the WWE decided to have a ‘sumo’ match during WrestleMania XXI and they decided to put one of their biggest stars in it with the Big Show. The match lasted just 1:03, with Big Show getting beaten easily by real-life sumo star Akebono. The match was a comedy fest, seeing Big Show dressed in an oversized sumo outfit (which frankly looked like a diaper), trying to put a serious show on, in a match he had no business being in. The match should have never taken place, but at the end of the day, it was a funny sight to see.

11 11. Susan Saint James and Elvira Sit in on Commentary - WrestleMania 2

Sadly, the WWE tries every now and then to force a celebrity that just doesn’t fit into WrestleMania, and at WrestleMania 2 that was more evident than ever. The event saw actress Susan Saint James, as well as horror movie host ‘Elvira,’ try their hand at commentary, and it failed on every level. It was so bad, it was downright funny, as both shrieked and hollered their way through their parts during the event. Saint James was on hand for the first part of the night in Uniondale, while Elvira finished up the night as part of the crew in Los Angeles. Saint James’ worst came during the bad boxing match between Roddy Piper and Mr. T, while Elvira just wouldn’t stop during the main event between Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy. Funny and annoying at the same time.

10 10. The Hulkster Forgets Where He Is - WrestleMania XXX

Hulk Hogan returned home to WWE in 2014, where he found his greatest success as the biggest babyface in the sport from 1984 to 1993. He was the ‘host’ for WrestleMania XXX, and got the job of starting off the night with a promo that was to include ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and The Rock. As Hogan started his promo, he mistakenly welcomed fans to the Silverdome (site of WrestleMania III where he beat Andre the Giant) instead of the Superdome. He said it 2-3 times before finally getting word from the fans he was saying the wrong venue. It got even more comical when Austin mocked Hogan when he came out for his part of the interview.

9 9. Steve Allen Bathes with The Bolsheviks - WrestleMania VI

At WrestleMania VI, Steve Allen gave one of the legendary interviews in the history of the event. The interview was with Nikolai Volkoff and Boris Zhukov, otherwise known as The Bolsheviks. The pair spoke to Allen in the shower area, with Allen playing a grand piano in the process. It was as comical an interview as had ever been done at a Mania, a funny moment during the sixth Mania event.

8 8. Legends Return for WrestleMania X-Seven Gimmick Battle Royal

19 former WWE superstars pulled out their gimmicks one more time for a battle royal at WrestleMania X-Seven, that stole the show as the funniest part of the event. From the overweight to the out of shape, 19 men made their way to the ring for a match that was eventually won by The Iron Sheik. Kamala, Doink the Clown, The Bushwackers, Sgt. Slaughter, The Goon, Duke ‘The Dumpster’ Droese, and more came out to relive the past, and give the fans a smile as they laughed their way through the event with Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan providing special commentary for the match.

7 7. Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan Eats Steel in Los Angeles - WrestleMania 2

If there was one manager who could not only talk but take a bump when needed, it was Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan. He was the main antagonist against Hulk Hogan, leading men like Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy and Andre the Giant into battle against Hogan during the Hulkster’s title reign. At WrestleMania 2, Heenan led Bundy against Hogan in a steel cage match, a match which Hogan won going over the top to the floor. After the match, Hogan got Heenan trapped in the blue cage, and threw Heenan into the bars while also giving him a few punches and an atomic drop. No manager ever took bumps the way Heenan did and it was never more entertaining that at WrestleMania 2.

6 6. Pete Rose Gets Tombstoned - WrestleMania XIV

The all-time hit leader in Major League Baseball history got what WWE was all about, and that’s entertainment. At three different WrestleMania’s, Pete Rose had run-ins with Kane, with Rose coming out on the short end of the stick all three times. The first, and most memorable, run-in came at WrestleMania XIV in Boston, when Rose came out to guest ring announce The Undertaker-Kane encounter, and he started to rip on the city of Boston. Kane’s music and fire hit, and Rose got bug eyed as Kane and manager Paul Bearer made their way to the ring. Kane got in the ring and gave Rose a tombstone that was both stunning and hilarious at the same time. Truly a WrestleMania moment to remember.

5 5. Jonathan Coachman Prays - WrestleMania X8

By the time WrestleMania X8 took place in Toronto, The Rock was not only entertaining fans in the WWE, he was also in Hollywood, so it was no surprise that he made the crowd laugh during his pre-match interview involving Jonathan Coachman. The interview was to hype the huge encounter with Hulk Hogan and The Rock took Hogan’s classic line about ‘saying your prayers’ to a whole new level. He challenged Coachman to say his prayers, and hilarity ensued. Coach got on his knees and with hands folded looked up and said ‘What up G’ in reference to God. The Rock didn’t like the salute and eventually kicked Coach out of the screen, before finishing the interview. No one can cut a promo like The Rock and Coach always seemed to be his best dancing partner.

4 4. ‘Macho Man’ Gets Fed by ‘The Animal’ – WrestleMania 2

During their WrestleMania 2 encounter, Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage was going at it with veteran George ‘The Animal’ Steele, who had a huge crush on Savage’s manager (and wife) Miss Elizabeth. During the match, Steele brought flowers for the lovely first lady of wrestling, and Savage grabbed them and the two started a fight over them, to which Steele raked the face of Savage with flowers in hand. Then, in true George Steele form, he tore open a turnbuckle and raked Savage’s eyes with the stuffing from inside. There was always an element of humor to Steele’s matches later in his career, and at Mania 2, this was never more evident.

3 3. Roddy Piper Puts out the Fire on Morton Downey Jr. - WrestleMania V

The ‘Hot Rod’ was back for WrestleMania V, two years after walking away from the company with the hopes of making it in Hollywood. He came back for a ‘Piper’s Pit’ segment with special guests Brother Love and talk show host Morton Downey Jr. Piper, as his usual fiery self, quickly dispatched of Love and turned his attention to Downey, who was inciting Piper by blowing cigarette smoke in his face. Piper got the last laugh when he grabbed a fire extinguishe, and doused Downey with it, much to delight of the crowd in Atlantic City. Downey took the skit in stride and it made for a funny moment in between the long 14 match card, highlighted by Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage.

2 2. King Kong Drops the Elbow on Little Beaver – WrestleMania III

Poor King Kong Bundy, the massive heel had gone from being in the main event in WrestleMania 2 to being in a mixed-tag at WrestleMania III. There was no question as to what the crowd wanted to see during the match, and that was the bullish, bald Bundy either splashing or dropping an elbow on one of the smaller competitors. The fans got their wish, as opponent Little Beaver kept running in and getting a cheap shot on Bundy, before finally gettting caught. The 450-plus pound Bundy slammed Beaver and dropped a massive elbow on him that made the crowd gasp. Let’s face it, it was funny. Really funny. A sight those watching live won’t soon forget.

1 1. The Rock ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ Nursery Rhyme - WrestleMania XV

Some will debate this as the funniest Mania moment of all-time, and that’s fine since it actually was on ‘Sunday Night Heat,’ but there’s no doubt this is one of the all-time great Rock moments, and it deserves to go down as the funniest of Mania’s 30-year history. The Rock was getting interviewed backstage for his showdown with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, and pulled out one of the great promos in WWE history. He gave us a nursery rhyme that no one would soon forget. “Marry had a little lamb.....Well I'll tell you what. P** on the lamb, p*** on Marry, and p** on you.” The promo wasn’t done, as when ‘The Great One’ was trying to do his catchphrases, he twice stopped, telling the fans in Philadelphia that "this ain't sing along with the champ." Not only does this rank up with one of the top five Rock promos of all-time, it’s the funniest moment in the history of Mania.
