Edge was = one of the most recognizable WWE Superstars of the 2000s, as along with Christian, Matt and Jeff Hardy and The Dudley Boyz, he was a part of what is considered to have been one of the greatest matches at WrestleMania when they collided in a TLC match at WrestleMania X-Seven. Edge had a decorated career in WWE before his retirement in 2011, as he managed to win 31 Championships in a career that spanned almost 15 years, which included eleven World Championships, five Intercontinental Championships and one United States reign, as well as a record 12 World Tag Team Championships and two WWE Tag Team Championship reigns. Edge was also the 2001 King of the Ring winner, the first ever Money in the Bank winner and the 2010 Royal Rumble winner, making him the first ever wrestler to achieve these three accolades.
He was forced into retirement due to a neck injury, otherwise he could have still been wrestling to this day; instead he has made the switch to acting. Edge has made several returns to WWE since he was forced to relinquish his World Championship and step away from the ring, and has also been awarded his own comedy show, along with Christian on WWE’s award winning Network.
Even though Edge retired from the company almost five years ago, he is still considered to have been one of the most decorated wrestlers of all time and still holds many records that will never be broken. These are 14 shocking things that happened to Edge after he retired.
14 Watched his Best Friend Finally Reach The Mountain Top
Edge sadly retired from WWE following his epic match with Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, he was forced to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship that he had fought so hard to hold, due to a neck injury that meant he could be paralyzed for life if he took one more wrong bump.
This wasn’t his final WWE appearance though, as Edge made an appearance at Extreme Rules a few weeks later where he cheered on his long time best friend Christian as he won his vacated World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.
13 Cutting Edge Peep Show at FastLane 2016
Edge returned to WWE at the beginning of 2016 and was a part of the WWE Tag Team picture as he and Christan were a part of one of the best backstage segments of 2015 when they had a kazoo battle and confronted The New Day. They were then given the opportunity to host the Cutting Edge Peep Show at FastLane where they interviewed The New Day and were then interrupted by The League of Nations and chaos ensued.
12 Dating Former WWE Diva
Edge tried to be private about his personal life while he was in WWE, but this all backfired when he was made a big part of the love triangle that included Lita and Matt Hardy. The duo broke up long before Lita retired in 2006, but before that Edge married twice and divorced twice. After all that, he met and began to date former WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix. A year later, the pair had their first child, a daughter named Lyric and announced in 2016 that their second was on the way.
11 Feature Film Debut
Acting has always been a passion for Edge, so his early retirement was looked upon as an opportunity for him to try a different path and WWE gave him his first lead opportunity. In 2012, it was announced that he would be a part of his first WWE Studios movie that was entitled Bending the Rules. It received mixed reviews following its release. It was then reported that he was back at WWE Studios filming their newest project entitled Interrogation where he plays a character named Lucas Nolan and the film also stars The Ravishing Russian Lana. It's slotted to be released at some point in 2016.
10 Raw Returns
It’s hard for WWE Superstars to stay away from the business that became their home. Edge was a part of WWE for almost 15 years, so it comes as no surprise that he has made many returns to WWE since his retirement. Edge made his first return in Toronto, Canada to host a special version of The Cutting Edge with Mark Henry and Randy Orton before Edge Appreciation Night began.
9 New Look
Throughout his WWE career, Edge always had a distinctive look and his long hair became his trademark. Before having long hair became a fashion statement, and perhaps before long hair became somewhat cool, Edge was at the forefront.
Edge, his best friend Christian and Chris Jericho were the three long haired blonde superstars of the 1990s and it wasn’t until his 2012 Hall of Fame induction that the WWE Universe were introduced to a new version of Edge. The Rated R Superstar had decided to cut off the locks that defined his character and instead opted for the more mature, short haired look.
8 The Flash
The DC Universe has slowly been taking over the world for the past few years after the debut of Arrow. Due to the success of Arrow, they made the decision to make a spin-off show that was all about the fastest man alive; Barry Allen, also known as The Flash.
The second season of the show was announced to include The Atom Smasher, who would be portrayed by Edge. The character has super strength, an incredible power of growth and impressive stamina but was still easily defeated by Barry Allen. Edge portrayed him perfectly and notched another acting performance onto his belt.
7 Canada Reads
Edge is a very smart man and has always been an advocate of reading. He was also one of the more passionate superstars when it came to charity work, which included helping kids to read.
Since the end of his WWE career, Edge has continued this and was even a part of Canada Reads in 2016 where he defended Minister Without Portfolio by Michael Winter. The show sees well known Canadian celebrities defend different books throughout the show until there is a winner, but sadly Edge and his book were the first ones eliminated.
6 Stone Cold Podcast
The Stone Cold Podcast has become one of the greatest shows on the WWE Network and gives the WWE Universe a chance to see the real WWE Superstars up close and personal without anyone holding them back. Back in September 2015, along with his best friend Christian, Edge appeared on the Stone Cold Podcast and it was easily one of the best episodes so far. The duo went through their WWE career with The Texas Rattlesnake, as they spoke about their highs and lows and the way their dealt with being a part of the company during its most successful years.
5 2012 Documentary – You Think You Know Me
WWE released a documentary on Edge in 2012 entitled You Thing You Know Me. This was obviously a reference to the entrance theme that would play every time he made his way to the ring. The documentary looks at the life of Edge and walks WWE fans through his 15 year career and his personal life. It also looked at his retirement and why he now must look at different avenues, despite spending the better part of his life inside a wrestling ring.
4 Played a Part in Bringing Back The Authority
WWE decided to add an interesting stipulation to the traditional Survivor Series match in 2014 when it was declared that The Authority would be out of power if Team Cena won the match (and only Cena would be able to bring them back). With some help from Sting, Team Cena managed to win and The Authority were officially out of power... until the final episode of Raw that year. Edge appeared on the show to interview Seth Rollins, but instead he was attacked and held hostage by Rollins until John Cena brought back The Authority. Rollins threatened to Curb Stomp, Edge which could have paralyzed him, so Cena gave in and brought Triple H and Stephanie back to power.
3 Edge and Christians Show that Totally Reeks of Awesomeness
Despite having left the company more than five years ago, Edge still has a big WWE following, so it comes as no surprise that WWE have given him and his former Tag Team partner Christian their own show on the WWE Network. The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness debuted on the Network directly after WWE FastLane in 2016 and it seems it has been one of the more successful shows on the exclusive network. It follows Edge and Christian as they pull pranks, make jokes and generally have a lot of fun with other WWE superstars.
2 WWE Hall of Fame
One of the most decorated WWE superstars of all time finally took his place among the legends of wrestling when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2012 by his best friend Christian. Even though his career was abruptly cut short due to a devastating injury, there's no doubt in anyone’s mind that Edge deserved his place in that group. If he had been cleared to wrestle after the injury, then there is no way of knowing just how may records Edge would have gone on to break or what kind of superstar he would have become.
1 Became a Father
Edge was 37 years old when he finally hung up his wrestling boots, meaning that he was a little late when it came to starting a family, but after getting a divorce from his former wife in 2005, Edge met Beth Phoenix when he was still a part of the WWE and the duo announced their relationship in 2012.
Phoenix then announced that she was pregnant the following year and gave birth to their first child in December 2013, a daughter that the couple named Lyric. They then announced in April 2016 that they were expecting a second child.
