WCW was once the premier wrestling program on television. When the company did things right, it swayed an entire wrestling audience in its direction. Unfortunately, for every good idea like the nWo, there were a ton of missteps by WCW.

The company fumbled a ton of great talent, a ton of potentially great storylines, and a ton of huge opportunities. They had Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho who enjoyed working at the company and still couldn't find a way to showcase their skills. The list of moments that could have been great but ultimately weren't is long for WCW and this list will examine 10 times the, once-renowned, company dropped the ball.

10 Ted DiBiase Stops Speaking For The nWo

Ted DiBiase, the Giant, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall of WCW's nWo

Ted DiBiase is one of the most skilled people to ever talk on a microphone in wrestling. Some fans may forget that he actually started out as the mouthpiece for the nWo. Unlike Eric Bischoff, who took Ted DiBiase's position out of nowhere, "The Million Dollar Man" brought magnetizing confidence to the nWo that was different from Hall, Nash, or Hogan.

A lot of the storylines that fell apart had a lot to do with Bischoff's involvement with the group. There were times when Eric was fine, but the possibilities with DiBiase as a mouthpiece were endless.

9 The D-Generation X Invasion

DX "invading" WCW outside the arena.

One of the most famous moments of the Monday Night Wars was when D-Generation X knocked on the doors of WCW. It was a legendary move for the WWE that could have been one of the greatest moments in the history of WCW.

If the company had opened its doors and allowed DX to enter the arena, it would have easily become the most-watched program on television that evening. Also, there was plenty of time for them to plan a segment or something that could have humiliated WWE, but, instead, the company dropped the ball and did nothing.

8 Brett Hart's Arrival

Bret Hart In WCW

Even with millions of eyes on him due to the Montreal Screwjob, WCW still found a way to waste the arrival of Bret Hart. Understandably, they would want one of the hottest wrestlers in the world on their program as quickly as possible, but an injured Brett Hart was not as provocative as a "Hitman" ready to wrestle.

His entire arrival ended up being absolutely flat. Hart also ended up being a referee in his first major outing at WCW, which started a long trend of waste for "The Hitman" at the company.

7 Goldberg's Streak

Kevin Nash Vs Goldberg Starrcade 1998

Goldberg's streak was delivered very well at WCW. They pushed him and he was extremely over with fans at 173-0. Everyone knew his streak would eventually come to an end, the issue is that WCW chose a person who was already a big star and didn't need to beat Goldberg to end the streak. A week after Kevin Nash beat Goldberg, it changed nothing for him.

This was a great opportunity for WCW to put over someone like Eddie Guerrero or Booker T to help add to their list of stars on the roster. Instead, they chose Nash who fans had already seen dominate television time and time again.

6 Sting Vs. Brett Hart

Bret Hart vs Sting

No one remembers a Sting and Bret Hart feud. Despite the two stars being two of the biggest names in wrestling, they were never given a true rivalry that warranted their star power. They could have easily been WCW's "Rock vs Austin." Instead, the focus stayed on Bret Hart and the nWo while Sting and The Hitman competed in a ton of forgettable matches and feuds that lasted only a few weeks.

5 Chris Jericho & Bill Goldberg

Jericho Goldberg

Chris Jericho created a fun storyline taunting Goldberg. WCW was always too focused on over-the-top storylines and massive star power that they never allowed the audience to digest something as fun and interesting as Jericho vs Goldberg.

The two could have had a feud as memorable as any of Goldberg's at WCW, but instead, Jericho was shoved to the background. The two also had tremendous star power in their own right but were never given a chance to showcase their chemistry.

4 Sting & The nWo

Sting Vs Hollywood Hogan

For many fans, Sting joining the nWo was the beginning of the end for WCW. It makes sense. He was their ultimate foe. The story of "will he, won't he join ?" Should have lasted Sting's entire career at WCW.

There were plenty of opportunities to provide interesting stories where it could have seemed that Sting had a reason to join the faction, but he never did, thus continuing the story forever. There's a reason Batman and the Joker have rarely ever teamed up in the comics, it makes no sense. Sting should have never been on the same side as the nWo.

3 Steve Austin's Solo Run

Stunning Steve Austin as WCW United States Champion

Steve Austin's time at WCW is not as well known because he didn't wrestle during the Nitro era. Still, it's interesting that a few months after Steve Austin was released, Monday Nitro premiered on television. Austin's biggest frustration with the company was not that he wasn't given a chance to shine but that he was never given a chance to pursue the world title.

If Austin had been given a world title shot in the main event. He would have shined. Austin was always going to become "Stone Cold" and it might have happened at WCW if they didn't fire him while he was injured.

2 Booker T Vs. Bret Hart

Booker T v Bret Hart Bash at the Beach 1998

Booker T left WCW and became a bigger star in the WWE. He was one of the few wrestlers to accomplish this because he had so much skill in the ring and was so beloved by fans. Bret Hart had some of his best matches at WCW against Booker T.

The two stars could've had massively memorable feuds against each other. They were both great on the mic. They had great chemistry in the ring. Unfortunately, WCW just randomly put them against each other and Booker T and Bret Hart never got a classic rivalry even though they could have created magic during a low point at WCW.

1 The Return Of Warrior

Roddy Piper, Ultimate Warrior and DDP in WCW

It seems impossible to waste a superstar as over as The Ultimate Warrior. WCW found a way. Sure the rumor goes that Hulk Hogan wanted to avenge his Wrestlemania 6 loss, but WCW could have done that and still used Warrior in a ton of ways.

He and Sting had a history as a tag team unit and that was never explored. He and Goldberg were basically the same kind of wrestlers and could have had a great feud against each other. All WCW fans got was a lackluster run with Warrior that lasted six months and is often remembered as a low point of the company.
