The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels is arguably the greatest professional wrestler in the history of sports entertainment. Even Vince McMahon has openly stated that Shawn is most likely the best in-ring performer of all time. But that's not all, as Triple H, Ric Flair, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho have stated that Shawn Michaels is the best to ever lace up a pair of boots.

It's hard to deny Shawn Michaels' greatness. He was labeled as a wrestler of the 90s, but it seemed that he only got better with age. While he was in his physical prime during the 1990s, many of Shawn's best matches came in the 2000s.

Of course, Shawn's WrestleMania matches against The Undertaker were by far his greatest performances of all time. With that being said, HBK's run in the 1990s was legendary as well. His ladder match against Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X, his 60-minute Iron Man match against Bret The Hitman Hart at WrestleMania XII, facing The Undertaker in the first ever Hell in a Cell match at the Badd Blood and winning the first Elimination Chamber match are all career highlights.

Shawn Michaels has done it all, but he also made a lot of enemies along the way. However, even those who despise him have admitted that he was the best. Nonetheless, being the best did not give Shawn Michaels the right to treat people so poorly. Michaels was great on-screen, but he was unbearable behind it. Thankfully, Michaels is a lot different these days.

As hard as we may try, I don't think that we will ever forget Shawn's antics during the 1990s. With that being said, here is our list of the Top 15 Things Wrestling Fans Would Like To Forget About Shawn Michaels.

15 15. His Terrible Mullet

The first thing that we would all like to forget about Shawn Michaels is the terrible mullet that he sported in the 1990s. I mean, he's supposed to be known as the Heartbreak Kid. His Joe Dirt haircut did him no favors with the ladies. I know people will argue that mullets were in during those times, but the "Model" Rick Martel did not sport a god awful mullet. Shawn wasn't the only member of the Kliq with a mullet. In fact, the 1-2-3 Kid and "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel rocked the mullet as well. Thankfully, Shawn got rid of the mullet in the mid-90s, and his career took off shortly thereafter.

14 14. He Was Suspended For Failing a Drug Test

Prior to his legendary ladder match against Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X, Shawn Michaels was suspended for failing a drug test. He did not fail the test because of the use of illicit drugs. Believe it or not, Michaels was suspended for using steroids. However, to this day, Shawn Michaels swears that he never took steroids at any point in his career. HBK believes that someone must have mixed in a steroid pill in the batch of somas that he was taking. Nonetheless, the failed drug test actually led to the culmination of the most famous ladder match in WrestleMania history.

Since HBK believed that the drug test was incorrect, he held onto the Intercontinental title during his suspension. Razor Ramon won the title in Shawn's absence. Shawn then returned to television with the title on his shoulder. HBK never officially lost the belt in a match, and the only way to solve the issue was to hang both belts above the ring at WrestleMania X. The rest is history.

13 13. His Hideous Outfit At Survivor Series 2002

Shawn Michaels successfully returned to the WWE in 2002 against Triple H at SummerSlam. A few months later, HBK was placed in the first ever Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series. While Shawn Michaels was ready to tear the house down, his iconic tights were not. Instead of wearing his usual tights with the broken hearts, Michaels was forced to wear a pair of the ugliest pants ever seen on WWE television. The fashion travesty couldn't have come at a worse time. The year 2002 was a monumental year for the "Showstopper," and he actually ended up winning the title in the Elimination Chamber match. While he performed as expected, Shawn's tights ruined the special moment for his fans.

12 12. He Went Bald

Every great man will most likely lose his hair at some point in life. While this is a sad reality that we must face, at least WWE Superstars have to go through it as well. Nonetheless, Superstars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Hulk Hogan embraced their baldness. However, baldness didn't sit well with Shawn Michaels. Rather than shaving his head, HBK tried to hide his baldness with strange hairstyles. Unfortunately, Shawn's high flying style often caused his hair to fall out of place. Millions of fans were forced to witness the loss of HBK's Fabio like hair. But, on the bright-side, Shawn sold more DX hats than Triple H.

11 11. He Told off Bret Hart After Winning The Title From Him

Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart had one of the most heated rivalries of all time. However, before things got really out of hand between the two Superstars, they were actually good friends. Bret Hart was the top guy when Shawn Michaels began his hunt for the WWE Championship. The Hitman knew that Shawn would one day become the champion, and Hart thought that he would work with Shawn for years to come. Unfortunately, we all know how the story ended. Nonetheless, Bret Hart has publicly stated that Shawn Michaels told him to get the f*** out of the ring after dropping the title to him at WrestleMania XII. Shawn claims that he has no memory of this incident.

10 10. He Was Supposed To Return Sooner

After Shawn Michaels left the WWE in 1998, it was thought that he would never return to action. His back had taken a tremendous amount of punishment over the years, and his casket match against The Undertaker at the 1998 Royal Rumble was the nail in the coffin. Nonetheless, Shawn made it to WrestleMania XIV, and he dropped the title to Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Once he lost the title, he was no longer in the limelight. While he was away from the WWE, his back eventually healed. But, it was during that time that Shawn began using drugs more than ever. Michaels was expected to return to the WWE almost two years before he did. However, when he was brought in to perform on Monday Night Raw in 2001, Shawn was completely wasted. He was belligerent and in no condition to be on television. Thankfully, HBK beat the addiction and returned in 2002.

9 9. He Posed For Playgirl

Back in the 1990s, the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels was every girl's dream. HBK was a very arrogant young man, and he loved to show off his body to the fans. In fact, Shawn has shown off his butt more than most WWE Divas. In 1996, Shawn Michaels showed off everything to the WWE Universe in a spread in Playgirl. Shawn did not realize that Playgirl was primarily purchased by gay men. Michaels thought that he was posing for women, and he probably wanted to make their male partners jealous in the process. However, his plans backfired, and his peers ridiculed him for it. Bret Hart famously referenced the Playgirl magazine during a heated promo.

Shawn Michaels may have been the greatest wrestler who ever lived, but it's quite obvious that he wasn't the nicest person. So many people have said terrible things about HBK. Hurricane Helms, Jim Cornette, and Bam Bam Bigelow are just a few of the people who have openly stated how much they hate Shawn Michaels.

During his run in the 1990s, Shawn Michaels refused to lose to certain wrestlers, and he avoided losing the WWE Championship. Shawn didn't care about anyone but himself and his Kliq. HBK bullied several of the lower class wrestlers. He famously told Vader that he would get him fired if he kept punching him so hard during their run in 1996. Michaels was not only rude to his fellow wrestlers, but he even told off Vince McMahon on a number of occasions. Kevin Nash has stated in multiple shoot interviews that no one has ever cursed at Mr. McMahon and gotten away with it besides Shawn Michaels.

7 7. He Was A Drug Addict

The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels wasn't the greatest role model for children back in the 1990s. Michaels took painkillers and somas on a regular basis. He also loved to drink alcohol and use other "recreational" drugs. In fact, many of the members of the Kliq were heavy drug users. However, it was Shawn Michaels, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman who let their addictions get the best of them. It wasn't uncommon for Shawn and his Kliq to take somas and painkillers right before performing in the ring. Thankfully, everyone in the Kliq is sober today, but the WWE fans have not forgotten about their antics just yet.

6 6. He Was Assaulted In Syracuse

Shawn Michaels enjoyed the spotlight in and out of the ring. He was a huge WWE Superstar, and he garnered a lot of attention in public places. Michaels and his Kliq were known for partying and having a good time. Unfortunately, HBK got himself into a lot of trouble on one particular night in 1996.

The British Bulldog, X-Pac, and Shawn Michaels went to a bar In Syracuse to throw back a few beers. Apparently, there were a few marines at the bar as well. After a couple of drinks, Michaels started to hit on a girl who was with one of the marines. Shortly thereafter, Shawn got jumped. It's unknown if Shawn was assaulted by more than one marine, but that's the story that WWE told their fans. Vince McMahon used the real life situation in a storyline a few weeks later.

5 5. He Refused To Lose Against The British Bulldog In England

The Heartbreak Kid had a lot of political power in 1997. He was one of the top Superstars in the company, and he had Vince's ear. However, rather than using his power to help out the rest of the boys, Michaels talked his way into winning several matches that he shouldn't have. For example, there was absolutely no need for Shawn Michaels to defeat the British Bulldog at the One Night Only event in England.

The British Bulldog was the European Champion at the time, and he put his title on the line against HBK. Vince McMahon originally planned on letting the British Bulldog win in his home country after dedicating the match to his dying sister. Shawn Michaels was already scheduled to win the WWE World Championship in the not so distant future. The European title meant a lot to the British Bulldog, but it meant nothing to HBK. Shortly after winning the title, Shawn Michaels handed it over to Triple H.

4 4. God Was His Tag Team Partner At The 2006 Backlash Pay Per View

The spiritual awakening that Shawn Michaels went through in his life was very real. Being the evil genius that he is, Vince McMahon wanted to capitalize on Shawn's transformation. While McMahon has made some great decisions in his life, placing Shawn Michaels in a tag team matchup with God as his partner was simply idiotic.

Prior to the Backlash pay per view, Michaels had been feuding with Vince and Shane McMahon. Several ridiculous promos were filmed before the event, but they did not aid the end result once so ever. Michaels ended up losing the match, and God never showed up. Or did he?

3 3. He Had A Relationship With Sunny

Not too many people would pass up the opportunity to have a relationship with Sunny in the 1990s. So, we can't blame Shawn too much for spending alone time with one of the hottest WWE Divas of all time. However, the fact that Sunny was in a committed relationship with Chris Candido at the time makes Shawn's actions downright disgusting. In the words of Roy Munson, "You don't mow another guy's lawn."

According to Sunny, HBK genuinely loved her, but she wanted nothing more than a fling. Apparently, her heart was set on Candido, but the rest of her body was fair game. Nonetheless, Shawn's relationship with Sunny eventually ended, and his fellow Kliq members committed acts of revenge for their leader. To be specific, Sean Waltman took a dump in Sunny's food.

2 2. He Disgraced The Canadian Flag

During his entrance at the 1997 Survivor Series, Shawn Michaels degraded the Canadian flag in more ways than one. The Heartbreak Kid stuck the flag down his shorts and then blew his nose with it. Michaels then proceeded to wipe his crotch with the flag. Finally, he placed the flag in the center of the ring and humped it vigorously. The crowd was furious, but HBK relished the moment. Michaels degraded the sacred Maple Leaf on more than one occasion, but his actions at the 1997 Survivor Series were by far his worst.

1 1. His Part In The Montreal Screwjob

HBK did not set up the entire scenario in which Bret Hart was screwed, but he did play a vital role in the operation. Shawn Michaels has even referred to himself as the trigger man in recent years. While screwing Bret Hart was terrible enough, the fact that Hart was screwed in Canada and "submitted" with the Sharpshooter made things much worse. On a recent episode of the "Stone Cold" Podcast, Shawn Michaels revealed that it was his idea to beat Bret with the Sharpshooter.

Although it was almost 20 years ago, Shawn Michaels is still hated in Canada. However, it does seem that the Canadian fans have eased up on the hatred just a bit over the years. Nonetheless, Michaels played a very important part in the Montreal Screwjob, and fans want to forget about it more than anything else.
