Paul Levesque has been known to have many ring names in his wrestling career, but the name of Triple H is what transcended him into becoming an icon of his era as he ushered a new breed of wrestling gimmicks through his ‘The Game’ persona. Triple H has been called The King of Kings, The Game and The Cerebral Assassin in his 20+ years in the company as his own evolution from a cocky talent into a prominent board member of WWE has come after years of giving it all for the company he loves. Triple H is what can be defined as the biggest asset for the company in the last 20 years. He is probably the most loyal superstar of the Attitude Era (along with Kane) to have stuck with it in its highs and lows and structured a bright future for himself as what could be the next head of the company.

Triple H has always done what is ‘best for business’ and has constantly put talent over and given them their limelights, but is also known for burying talent and having quite the say behind the curtains. His influence in backstage politics had landed him into some troubles, but his love for the company meant he couldn’t say no to some questionable story-lines and segments which the WWE always tries to put under the rugs. Be it tapping out to Chris Benoit at WrestleMania or having some questionable behind the scenes relationships with fellow superstars and some weird story-lines with them on-screen, Triple H has had some rather forgettable moments in his career. His prominent role in WWE production right now along with the fact that he’s one of the biggest draws for the company means the WWE has to shield him from his past nightmares and make us forget that they even existed in the first place.

15. Sable As His Valet

Triple H’s early career gimmicks were pretty weird compared to what he would become later on. He started his WWE career as Hunter Hearst Helmsley with a “Connecticut Blueblood” gimmick where he would be a sophisticated, snobby gentleman wearing lavish suits and always maintaining class. During this time, he had some of his own valets, one of which was none other than Sable who accompanied him to the ring until a WrestleMania loss made him turn on her. He then started feuding with her real-life husband Marc Mero who saved her, but one could wonder what it could’ve turned out had it been in the same era where Brock Lesnar and Sable met each other.

14. Jobbing to the Ultimate Warrior

The Cerebral Assassin is known for “burying talent” over the years and also making others “job” to him, but not many know of his earlier years in the WWE where he was given a taste of his infamous “shovel” in WrestleMania XII against the Ultimate Warrior. It was the return of the Warrior after almost 4 years, and made for one of the funniest squash matches in WrestleMania history where The Warrior no sold the Pedigree and pinned The Game inside 2 minutes. Considering how Triple H would go on to be a bigger star than The Warrior, this result could come as a surprise to many of the newer fans.

13. Hog Pen Match

Triple H has been a part of some of the most iconic matches over the years, be it superb technical bouts or even some of the most extreme matches of the last few decades. But he’s also been part of one of the most bizarre, disgusting matches of all time: a Hog Pen Match against Henry O. Godwin in an In Your House PPV. Basically in a Hog Pen match, you have to weaken your opponent and send them into a hog pen near the entrance ramp to win. Levesque won the match, but was dripping in mud beside the pigs in a disgusting, smelly encounter which has almost been deleted off WWE records.

12. The Botched Pedigree

The Pedigree is one of the most iconic finishers in WWE history, which was the trademark of Triple H before his protégé Seth Rollins started to use it, and the move has won HHH many a match and title. But that doesn’t take away the fact that it is dangerous if not maneuvered rightly; that was seen in a match between Triple H and Marty Garner on WWE Superstars. When Triple H was going to hit the Pedigree, it was mistook for an underhook suplex or powerbomb by Garner who tried to jump up, but landed hard on top of his head and suffered neck damage. Garner would go on to sue the WWE and would settle out of court, but this incident showcasing the dangers of this iconic move has been shoved under the rug.

11. Giving Stephanie A Wardrobe Malfunction

During his feud with Chris Jericho after returning from a lengthy injury, Triple H would see his then on-screen wife alongside Y2J as she constantly tried to screw him over by attacking him in matches and being a huge nuisance throughout the feud. As this was the Attitude Era, Triple H took it to Stephanie by hitting her back many a time. Some weeks before WrestleMania X8, Triple H would finally catch up with Stephanie on RAW and as he’s about to give her a pedigree on the table, the camera catches the whole thing from an angle where you can see one of Stephanie’s breasts hanging out. A humiliating moment for everyone involved, but thankfully it happened at a time where the Internet Community was still in its minnows.

10. His WrestleMania Record

The Grandest Stage of Them All might have given Triple H some defining moments (such as winning the Undisputed Championship), but he still holds a negative competition record in WrestleMania. Triple H has a 9-10 WrestleMania record which doesn’t really look that strong as compared to other main attractions like John Cena (9-3), Stone Cold Steve Austin (5-3) and The Rock (6-5) who all have positive records. Triple H might have headlined WrestleMania 6 times in his career, but has only won 2 of those matches. Who says that Triple H doesn’t put other guys over?

9. Getting Burned at WrestleMania 29

Triple H’s WrestleMania entrances are a thing of beauty. Some of the most innovative, dazzling entrances have been put on show by the King of Kings over the past years, but he will definitely remember the one from WrestleMania 29. Triple H was making his way toward the ring with white fog covering the entrance ramp, and that white material stuck to his torso and hands had fans giggling over it being something else. It turned out to be dry ice which gave the superstar 2nd degree burns, as he fought on with the excruciating pain and proved what a champ he truly is.

8. Spat with CM Punk

via youtube.com

via youtube.com

Yeah so it’s no big secret that Triple H and CM Punk do not like each other. Punk has constantly complained of how Triple H tried to bury him and rattle his momentum in 2011, while Triple H indicated that he had no beef with the Straight Edge Superstar. But former WWE writer Jack Bauer in an interview told of how Triple H and Shawn Michaels tried to “bury” CM Punk when he arrived in the company. Plus his on-screen heated battles with CM Punk showed a case of a very real rivalry, as the WWE doesn’t mention the battles between the two after Punk left the company.

7. His Acting Career

via moviepilot.de

via moviepilot.de

Triple H might be an extremely entertaining superstar on-screen in the WWE, but his stint in acting in films didn’t go so well as he did some unknown films which were mostly all flops. His lead role in a WWE studios film The Chaperone was trashed by critics, as the film grossed only $14,000 off a $3 million budget. Another attempt at acting in Inside Out (not the animated one) went just as badly, as it went straight to DVD and was ridiculed in a promo by CM Punk during their feud. His only “good” film probably was Blade Trinity, where he had a cameo role of being a vampire. Just keep the acting business aside, Triple H!

6. His WCW Career

via chinlock.com

via chinlock.com

Remember how Triple H makes himself come off as this anti-WCW guy who fights only for WWE forever and ever? Yeah, Triple H was actually in World Championship Wrestling (still in its weaker stages) before coming to WWE. Given the gimmick of Jean Paul Levesque, a French man where Triple H had to come up with a French accent, he then became a tag team with Lord Steve Regal (better known as William Regal) as they both had this aristocratic behavior about them. But when WCW denied to make him a singles competitor, he moved on to WWE and the rest is history. But yeah, Triple H thwarting WCW guys does seem pretty hypocritical now.

5. Drugging Stephanie into Marrying him

via twitter.com

via twitter.com

The “power couple” in WWE right now all started from a rather bewildering story-line. Triple H was feuding against Vinny Mac, and decided to pull a “joke” on him by kidnapping and drugging his daughter Stephanie and making her agree to marry him while in the drugged state. This was also caught on camera and shown on live television, just when Stephanie was about to marry her on-screen partner at the time, Test. Later on, instead of staying away from Triple H, she got even more close to him on and off the screen and they would go on to marry in 2003 and have a healthy, happy family. It’s just that, they’d wanna keep their first “marriage” to themselves and away from the kids.

4. His Role in NXT

via dailywrestlingnews.com

via dailywrestlingnews.com

Triple H transformed WWE’s development program NXT from a glorified obstacle course into one of the hottest wrestling promotions in the world right now. NXT is the thing in wrestling right now, with more and more renown world-class athletes joining in along with amateurs who are developed over the course of time. Triple H is the booker and senior producer of NXT, and is basically the “boss” but rarely makes any appearance in it. WWE is reluctant at having The Game making his presence felt in the NXT shows, especially as it clashes with his heel persona in the main roster. During his WWE Title reign, Triple H (a face in NXT) wasn’t allowed to appear in NXT Takeover: Dallas, because it would tarnish his heel persona as WWE rarely promotes the NXT Triple H.

3. Racist Feud With Booker T

via cagesideseats.com

via cagesideseats.com

Booker T, who had established himself as a fairly over superstar after moving from WCW years ago, was originally planned to go over at WrestleMania XIX by winning the World Heavyweight Title. But Triple H wasn’t gonna let that happen, as the Cerebral Assassin apparently refused to lay down to Booker T and their on-screen rivalry showed signs of racism and downright burying the 5 time WCW Champion. Prior to their match, Triple H cut a promo on the irrelevance of Booker’s reigns at WCW, and also showed racially insensitivity by stating how “guys like Booker” aren’t in the same status as himself. He would also call him a “boy” and Ric Flair (then managing Trip) told Booker T to “hold his bags”. This ushered a bitter backlash from fans at the time and WWE tried to slide this under the mat and rarely mentions it.

2. Relationship With Chyna

via whatculture.com

via whatculture.com

Now this is a bitter pill which neither the WWE nor Triple H wants to swallow. Triple H and Chyna were part of DX in the 90s, and thus got close in real life as well and were in a relationship during their DX days. But some years after, Triple H and Chyna would break on-screen and this would affect them in real-life too, as Triple H would start seeing Stephanie McMahon which would turn serious. Chyna complained that Triple H started seeing Stephanie while in a relationship with her, and also that he “physically violated” her. Chyna was soon let go by the WWE, but she constantly kept blaming Triple H on how he destroyed her life and screwed her over, and was completely ignored by both him and WWE. Recently after her death, Triple H and WWE finally acknowledged her after years of tension and this goes to show how disgustingly the company behaved with her.

1. Katie Vick Storyline

via bleacherreport.com

via bleacherreport.com

Remember how the WWE has shown over the years it’s capability of coming up with intriguing story-lines and unpredictable angles? Yeah if they can come up with the best ideas, they can surely come up with the worst ones as well. Triple H was a victim of such a disgusting story-line, as during his feud with the big red machine Kane in 2002, a heel Triple H decided to torment Kane by making him remember Katie Vick. Apparently Katie Vick was the love of Kane’s life and had died in an accident. WWE would then go on to show Katie Vick’s funeral, where Triple H (dressed and masked like Kane) would do obscene things with the “lifeless” body of Katie Vick.

The disgusting showcase of necrophilia on live TV made for one of the most gruesome, shameful story-lines of all time with Triple H and Kane having to go through it, which only goes on to show their devotion towards the company. WWE has since then tried to absolutely delete it off their records and our memories, and honestly speaking, no one wants to remember even a second of it.
