WWE Superstars portray characters on-screen and often the WWE Universe confuses their own personality with the one that the stars are playing on-screen, when in-fact many superstars are approachable people.
Total Divas has given fans an insight into the lives of many of the women behind their characters and has shown that there is much more depth to their personality, as well as showing that the men in their lives are just as down to earth as they are.
The media often focuses too much on when a Superstar does something wrong, while they often fail to report when Superstars do wonderful things out of the kindness of their hearts.
Much like footballers and many other athletes, WWE Superstars are contracted to be a part of many public appearances, but many stars choose to approach their fans and help them in ways that they are not supposed to. Often times, they don’t mind doing it because they feel that they are paying back for their dedicated support.
These are the stories that make up the following list. The times when Superstars have gone above and beyond to prove that the character they play on TV is only one side of their personality and deep down they really do have a heart. The times that show, contrary to popular belief, they are just like everyone else and they just want to help where they can.
15 Triple H and The Crying Fan
Back in 2015, John Cena was booked in a handicap match in the main event of an episode of Raw. There's not much unusual there, but this story made headlines after Triple H (who was seated at ringside for the match) noticed a young fan crying at ringside due to his heel work and broke character in order to console him.
14 Stardust and Elijah Mainville
Eight-year-old Elijah saw all of his dreams come true when he attended an episode of Monday Night Raw in 2015. Elijah had been battling cancer since the age of three and was told that he was in remission, before the disease sadly returned the following year.
13 Finn Balor and Answer the Call
The reigning NXT Champion was a part of a charity auction that was looking to aid New York Police and Fire widows as well, as the Children’s Benefit Fund. He helped by auctioning off the opportunity to meet him at the WWE Performance Centre and be painted up in his Demon attire.
12 Roman Reigns and His Most Dedicated Fan
Roman Reigns is not exactly the most liked superstar in WWE right now, but a woman named Leonora. who claimed to be Roman’s most dedicated fan, couldn't make it to an event to meet the superstar.
11 Dolph Ziggler and Make A Wish
Dolph Ziggler has become one of the top faces in WWE over the past few years, so much so that he was given the opportunity to grant Mikael’s wish as part of the Make-A-Wish foundation back in 2015.
10 Bayley and Izzy
Bayley and Izzy have a relationship that has been blossoming down in NXT for some time with the youngster completely infatuated with Bayley.
9 The Rock and Christopher
So I called an audible and went to visit Christopher. Glad we did... While I was visiting the Pediatric Specialty Ward surprising the kids, I got word from my team that there was a mom who was pleading with our production staff, that I go upstairs to her son's room to give him a much needed big surprise. Since he's older he's in the main hospital and not in pediatric care. We were shooting #BAYWATCH scenes outside of the hospital, but instead of heading back to shoot I called the audible, put production on hold and went upstairs to see this young man. I walked in and his smile lit up the room! And I mean lit that room up!;) We talked for a while about his family, his school and how hard he's working to eventually graduate AND we talked about how COOL all his scars are from his multiple surgeries - from his head to his chest - those scars are badges of honor and the reminder of how beyond tough this kid is. Right before I left his mom looked at him and said, "Christopher I can't give you anything, but I'm so happy I could give you this today..." and she started to breakdown, which was captured in this pic. Made me think to give so much credit to these parents who would do anything to take their kid's pain away and ANYTHING to bring a smile to their faces. As a papa bear I understand. Glad this mom brought a smile to Christopher's face. And glad I got a chance to shake the hand of this very strong and inspiring young man. Stay strong Christopher and show them scars with pride. You're the man! ~ DJ
Whilst completing filming Baywatch in 2016, The Rock took the time to visit the Children’s Ward at the Memorial University Medical Centre in Savannah. He shared his visit on social media and talked about his visit with a young man named Christopher.
8 Triple H and Connor's Cure
Daniel Bryan may have been Connor Mahalik’s favourite WWE Superstar, but Connor touched every star that he came into contact with and one of these was WWE COO Triple H. Connor was allowed to step in the ring with the former World Champion during his visit and even pinned him to the mat, which left a lasting impression.
7 Natalya and Alicia Fox: Nothing But Nets
Natalya and Alicia Fox travelled to Rwanda back in 2013 to help raise awareness of Malaria in the local communities.
6 CM Punk and the Organic Schools Project
CM Punk may have been painted as a bad guy since his sudden departure from WWE in 2014, but that hasn’t affected the role he has played in many different charities.
5 Seth Rollins Gets Punched
Seth Rollins is the ultimate bad boy in WWE right now, but proved that he is a decent human being outside of the ring when he met five-year-old Owen Hunt.
4 The Rock and Nick Miller
Cool story to share on Easter.. After my workout I'm drivin' in my pick up and notice these kids in the rearview mirror screamin' & runnin' after my truck. Thought to myself, "Should I stop or keep drivin'?" I stopped. I hop out of my truck and this kid runs up to me, hugs the hell outta me and says it's been his life's dream to meet me and tell me how much I've inspired him to fight cancer (Hodgkin's lymphoma) and hard core chemo and stem cell transplant treatments. He was a little teary eyed and said for months and months all he's wanted to do was find me and say this face to face. I told him what it meant to me to hear this story. I thanked him, hugged him (and his friends), got back in my truck and drove away. As I'm drivin' I start shaking my head (and tearing up) at how fragile life is and how amazing and cool the universe was to make this meeting happen between myself and this special kid Nick Miller. Let's always take a moment to count our blessings.. cause there's always something to be grateful for. Happy Easter y'all - DJ
The Rock shared this story on his Facebook page back in 2015 about the day he met Nick Miller. He said that he was driving home from the gym when he noticed a couple of kids running and screaming after his truck. Rather than just carrying on like most people, The Rock decided to stop and talk to them.
3 Paige and Alicia Fox
On a recent episode of Total Divas, Paige and Alicia Fox were approached by a male fan who claimed that Paige’s character on-screen had helped him to overcome many of life’s obstacles and even asked Paige and Alicia to be there when he came out to his family.
2 John Cena And The 500 Wishes
John Cena is the only wrestler in WWE to have been a part of the company for more than a decade and not have to turn heel. This is mainly because WWE doesn’t want to spoil what John is doing with the Make a Wish foundation (and his merchandise).
1 Daniel Bryan and Connor Mahalik
It is perhaps one of the most emotional stories when it comes to bonds between Superstars and fans, as Daniel Bryan and Connor had a wonderful relationship that helped a difficult situation become a little bit easier.
Connor was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and so WWE decided to make his wish come true and invited him to a WWE event before then inviting him to WrestleMania XXX where he watched his favourite superstar, Daniel Bryan, lift the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Connor passed away days after WrestleMania and Bryan then inducted him into the WWE Hall of Fame the following year. It was a touching tribute to a special little boy.
