While fans have criticized AEW's presentation of its women's division over the first 3 years of the company's history, following the debut of Saraya at AEW Grand Slam, it seems the company is putting more of an effort into things. Giving the women more time in their matches, placing women's segments throughout their shows, and just improving the division as a whole, things seem to be on the rise for the ladies of AEW.

At only 30 years old, Penelope Ford remains a very young asset for AEW's growing women's division. Following a series of breakout performances against Hikaru Shida in 2020 and her violent street fight in 2021, Ford should be one of the future stars of All Elite Wrestling.

Despite arriving in AEW together as a package, Joey Janela and Penelope Ford would not actually be dating at the time of their signing for All Elite Wrestling. Splitting up in 2018, it would be the nail in the coffin for the couple after an on-again-off-again relationship lasted for four years, according to Joey Janela.

Despite that, the split, in early 2019 the two would remain paired together during the original AEW Press Conference, though by the time TV rolled around for AEW, Ford would be paired with her new partner, Kip Sabian. During his time with AEW, Janela noted that he and Ford remained friends and that he did not find it weird to be working with his ex and her new fiancé.

In the Spring of 2020, the couple would get engaged with an on-screen wedding taking place the following year featuring Chuck Taylor, Miro, and Orange Cassidy as well.

In speaking about how they came together, the two have noted that it all started through flirting in each other's DM's before bonding over their shared nerdiness. Following Kip's return to AEW TV in late 2022, the couple have once again been paired on-screen.

During her time in CZW, Ford would challenge for the CZW Medal Of Valor Championship, though she would fail to win the belt. She would also wrestle against future Impact Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace, work alongside her partner at the time, Joey Janela, and would also feature opposite a younger MJF during his time rising the ranks of CZW.

While Penelope would fail to capture the AEW Women's Championship during her match against Hikaru Shida, the two would put on one of the most underrated women's matches in AEW history. Thanks to it taking place during the no-crowd era of shows, it does feel different than most wrestling nowadays, but from an in-ring standpoint, it does hold up upon rewatch and serves to show why Ford is an underrated asset in AEW.

4 One Of Her Trainers Was WWE's Drew Gulak

Establishing that Penelope Ford got her start in Combat Zone Wrestling, it makes sense that one of her trainers would be someone so tied to that promotion. While WWE fans may know him more for his current jobber status in the company, Drew Gulak is one of the most technically sound wrestlers alive, standing alongside the likes of Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr. as one of the best around.

Also carving his own name in CZW, Gulak would serve as one of Penelope Ford's trainers, which makes her use of submission-based wrestling in her move-set make a lot more sense. Other trainers would include Drew's brother Rory Gulak and another CZW staple, D.J. Hyde.

A month later, she would wrestle her first proper match for the company on an episode of AEW Dark in quite the interesting match. Teaming with Bea Priestley, Ford would face off against babyface versions of Allie and future AEW Women's Champion, Britt Baker.

Baker and Priestley would feature prominently in the early goings of AEW, while Ford and Allie would both be background players. Fast-forwarding to 2021, Allie would be known to fans as The Bunny, where she and Penelope Ford would famously form a tag-team, taking part in one of the greatest women's matches in the company's history; a street fight against TayJay at the end of 2021.

Despite working the tryout at the WWE Performance Center, Penelope Ford would not sign with WWE and would eventually land in AEW the following year as one of the company's first signings for its women's division.

Being one of the first female signings for AEW, Penelope Ford would take part in the first-ever AEW Press Conference in 2019. Since then, it has been a rollercoaster ride for Penelope Ford in AEW. Originally working as Joey Janela's manager, she would jump to Kip Sabian following the real-life split between her and Janela. Ford would work as a wrestler and manager, serving as a valet for the teams of Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc, and then Sabian and Miro before Kip would go down with an injury.

Penelope herself would suffer an injury in early 2022, keeping her out of action for months, though she would return around All Out 2022. With more focus on the women's division in AEW currently, fans should expect to see more of Penelope Ford should she be able to stay healthy!
