Total Divas remains a major asset for WWE after nine seasons on the E! Network. WWE gets to have many of their top female performers featured on the show watched by a different demographic. It also helps that WWE Network gets access to all the archived episodes. One funny element of the show features a lot of overly dramatic rivalries between two or more ladies.
The reality show world is often more so reality-based with storylines pitched. Total Divas does this to add more excitement to the show if a small issue comes up between two talents. Luckily, there is a more authentic side as well when showing real friendships. Both stories will be examined here when looking back at the show. The following Total Divas names either had dramatic rivalries for the camera or had legitimately adorable friendships.
10 Overdramatic rivalry: Maryse and The Bella Twins
The heat between Maryse and the Bella Twins was one of the real issues between female talents in WWE. However, their past problems were exaggerated for the Total Divas storyline when Maryse returned to WWE and joined the cast.
Past reports indicated Nikki and Brie took the top spots on the series and blocked Maryse and Maria Kanellis from returning as co-stars. Maryse and the Bella Twins talked trash about the past essentially confirming the bad blood was true. They made enough peace for Maryse to have mixed tag matches with both Bellas on WWE television.
9 Adorable friendship: The Bella Twins and Natalya
Natalya is the closest friend of the Bella Twins since all three were on the main roster together. The reputation of Natalya is strong for getting along with just about everyone in the locker room. Natalya always loved Nikki and Brie for being kind to her even when others viewed them lowly in the women’s division.
All three women wanted the spots on Total Divas to show more about their life and hopefully grow their platform. Natalya has been rumored as the person most likely to induct the Bella Twins into the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame whenever it does take place.
8 Overdramatic rivalry: Lana and Carmella
Lana has been placed into a few dramatic storylines as part of the Total Divas world. Wrestling websites used to report she always had issues with other women in the locker room, so it was easy to believe when becoming part of the Total Divas landscape.
One episode saw Carmella getting into a loud argument with Lana on the street after WWE changed the house show matches. Lana told management she needed more matches to improve, and she replaced Carmella on a tour. The two got into it with Carmella viewing Lana as a manipulator.
7 Adorable friendship: Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax
Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax both joined the Total Divas cast after they were established on the main roster. WWE wanted to add new stars to the mix and both ladies were among the most pushed wrestlers in the women’s division at the time.
The friendship between Bliss and Jax was a huge part of their storylines. Fans got to witness just how close the duo was behind the scenes. Many of the episodes would see them involved in one story while the other ladies had their own things going on.
6 Overdramatic rivalry: Summer Rae and Natalya
Summer Rae was portrayed as the evil new cast member loving to start drama despite having a positive reputation as a person. Total Divas placed her in a long rivalry with Natalya expressing disrespect towards the veteran of the locker room.
One memorable moment featured Summer driving to Natalya’s home and slapping her in the face when opening the front door. Another episode would see Natalya physically throw Summer out of her car when traveling together with Rosa Mendes in between WWE events.
5 Adorable friendship: Renee Young and Brie Bella
Renee Young joining the Total Divas cast saw her friendship with Brie Bella become a major part of the show. Both lived in the Arizona area and were able to easily spend time together during the filming of the show as close friends outside of the ring.
Brie and Renee both called themselves hippies which bonded them together. Memorable episodes together included them going to a retreat with their husbands Daniel Bryan and Jon Moxley, having a big get together at Renee’s new home and attempting to buy a used scooter.
4 Overdramatic rivalry: Nikki Bella and Eva Marie
Eva Marie’s journey in WWE lasted longer than most expected due to her placement on Total Divas. WWE and the show each felt she could become a huge star. One major storyline saw Eva getting heat with the Bella Twins for some of her actions backstage.
Nikki Bella specifically became a huge rival of Eva with the implication of Eva trying to take her spot as the top star of the women’s division at the time. Some of the segments showed a lot of tension with most of the locker room siding with Nikki.
3 Adorable friendship: Naomi and Lana
Lana was portrayed as a villain in many of the Total Divas storylines with issues forming with quite a few people on the roster. One of her friendships featured on the show looked at her close bond with Naomi when both were on the Smackdown brand.
Naomi and Lana hung out often and even went to a Carnival experience dressing in fun costumes together. Lana worked a few singles matches against Naomi when returning to the women’s division. Naomi might be Lana’s one loyal friend in WWE featured on the show.
2 Overdramatic rivalry: Lana and Natalya
The issues between Lana and Natalya were a huge part of the show. Both ladies had different personalities and reputations that caused them to clash. The two got a bit personal with each other on the Total Divas show.
One moment saw Natalya taking Lana’s luggage and phone to throw in a pool. Lana unintentionally attacked Natalya by shot putting into Natalya’s car after learning how to do it from Jim Neidhart. The issues were clearly exaggerated for television and the dramatic experiences were played up for television.
1 Adorable friendship: Paige and Alicia Fox
Paige and Alicia Fox have been close friends since the former joined the main roster. Fox became a veteran of the locker room with a long stint on Raw and Smackdown. The two got into a lot of hijinks on the road, especially when joining the Total Divas cast.
Both ladies trusted each other to travel together on the road full-time when working together. Rosa Mendes eventually joined them as three close friends. Paige and Fox, however, had the most shared stories together during their time on Total Divas.
