New Trailer For Andre The Giant Documentary Released [Video]

It's certainly fitting that on the same week WWE celebrated the 25th anniversary of Raw, a new trailer for the upcoming Andre the Giant documentary was released. Both are and were, literally, giants within WWE's history and Raw's first episode aired just two weeks before Andre's death.

Last February Bill Simmons of HBO announced that he would be co-producing a film on Andre which would include interviews with WWE Superstars, media members, athletes, friends and family. Along with the Bill Simmons Media Group, HBO Sports and WWE will also be producers on the documentary. The film is slated to premiere on Tuesday, April 10 but we got a sneak peak thanks to the release of the latest trailer.

Just from the trailer above, we see that Hulk Hogan, Jerry Lawler, Ric Flair, Vince McMahon, 'Mean' Gean Okerlund, Billy Crystal and Cary Elwes were interviewed for the film. We will undoubtedly hear about the legendary exploits of Andre in the ring and in a bar in addition to what it was like being in the presence of The Eighth Wonder of the World.

People sometimes forget just how important Andre was to the history of wrestling. When WWE created their Hall of Fame, Andre was the inaugural and sole inductee in 1993. The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal (and Trophy) are both named in his honor and his iconic match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III is considered the pinnacle of the 1980s wrestling boon.

Simmons, a lifelong wrestling fan, certainly didn't forget about Andre's significance and he said that a documentary about Andre's life and career is his white whale.

“Going back to 2007 and 2008 when I was creating and developing 30 for 30 for ESPN, André’s story rode the top of every single sports documentary wish list I ever made. We always hear about unicorns these days—André was the ultimate unicorn. He’s a true legend. Everyone who ever crossed paths with him has an André story—and usually four or five.”

The first trailer for Andre The Giant was released in December and can be viewed here. The film will premiere just two days after WrestleMania 34 on Tuesday, April 10.
