January will mark six years since CM Punk walked out of the WWE, but fans continue to hope that we'll see him back in the ring one day.

The former WWE Champion recently joined WWE Backstage on Fox Sports 1, which naturally led to speculation that CM Punk could be returning to the squared circle. So far, however, there aren't many hints that a return is imminent.

CM Punk and Seth Rollins have engaged in plenty of trash talk, leading some to wonder if The Architect would be the opponent if the former were to wrestle again.

But according to Sky Bet (h/t Ringside News), Triple H is actually the betting favorite to be CM Punk's next opponent. The Game is listed with the best odds at 2/1, followed by Rollins at 3/1.

Interestingly, Shane McMahon carries the third-highest odds at 7/1, even though he's no longer a full-time personality on television - having lost a "You're Fired" match against Kevin Owens two months ago.

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar follow Shane O'Mac with odds of 8/1 and 9/1, respectively. Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt are all listed as 10/1 long shots to face Punk.

Again, there aren't any indications that CM Punk is about to return to wrestling again. Triple H recently shut down the rumors and said they haven't even had discussions yet about bringing back the former main event star, so we'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

Triple H Would Be The Perfect Opponent

A CM Punk-Triple H showdown would truly be a sight to behold for a variety of reasons. The buildup between the two would be incredible, given the legitimate backstage frustrations that led to his departure. CM Punk always cut top-notch promos, and we'd love to see him put together something against Triple H. Not to mention that The Game has always been great at playing "bad guy" against top faces like Rollins and Bryan, among others. He'd shine in the villains role in a potential match vs. Punk.
