Triple H and The Rock had a memorable confrontation at WrestleMania 31, and it appeared to be a buildup for a future showdown between the two wrestling icons.

The Rock brought UFC star Ronda Rousey out of the crowd, and the two worked together in throwing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon out of the ring. It was one of the top highlights of WrestleMania 31, and fans simply hoped that we'd see something more down the road.

Instead, Triple H faced Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 32, where the Big Dog emerged victorious to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. As for The Rock, he squashed Erick Rowan in a six-second match during a confrontation with The Wyatt Family.

But during an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Triple H revealed that a match between he and Rock could have happened at WrestleMania 32, but the latter's schedule prevented it from taking place.

"I don't remember the details of it, but it was one of those things that Rock and I talked about to the point where we did the backstage promo. 'Let's throw a scene out there and see what happens.' It blew up, so we talked about it some more. Then scheduling just got in the way.

At that point, we were over a year away from that WrestleMania. It wasn't until, maybe four months of the following year, we got to that, and Rock goes, 'it's just not gonna work. I just can't. All of my stuff. My movies and everything has changed. I just can't make it work anymore.'

"It was what it was. I would've loved to have [done] it. It would've been a blast to step in there with him one more time and tear it up."

The Rock announced his retirement from professional wrestling over the summer, which all but ended the dream of a potential WrestleMania showdown with Triple H. The two engaged in a fatal four-way match at WrestleMania 2000, which also featured Mick Foley and Big Show.

Rousey's program with Triple H and Stephanie didn't end, however. She made her WWE in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34, where Rousey and Kurt Angle defeated Triple H and Stephanie in a mixed tag match.

Triple H And The Rock Had Many Great Moments Together

It would have been incredible to see one more chapter between Triple H and the People's Champion, but fans were still fortunate enough to see many memorable showdowns. The two wrestling legends squared off numerous times during the Attitude Era -- including at SummerSlam 1998, and Judgement Day 2000. There are many dream matches wrestling fans never got to witness, so we shouldn't be too disappointed about the fact that these two didn't go at it one last time at WrestleMania 32.
