NXT Takeover: WarGames will be live from Houston, Texas Saturday night and the future of the WWE will be on display in multiple matches. The card includes nine members of the NXT roster in a two-cages, three-team battle called WarGames. Partly responsible for how these NXT Superstars look and perform in this pay-per-view is one of the best performers in WWE history, Shawn Michaels.
With no official title in NXT, Michaels really just spends time with the young talent trying to improve to the point they get called up to the main roster. Michaels started by helping a friend in Triple H and as time has gone on, Michaels has gotten more involved and more active in everything NXT.
For The Win spoke to Triple H, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative and asked him about Michaels and how he fits in NXT. Triple H was quick to praise both Michael's work and friendship:
It’s the best thing ever. On one hand I go ‘yeah, it’s great that I get to work with my friend,’ – not that I see him all the time, because I really see him when we do TVs. We talk here and there about talent...I know what he’s thinking, he knows what I’m thinking. I don’t know, we’ve just worked together for so long there’s this magic thing that happens there, and it’s really cool.
Triple H went on to describe Michaels seeing NXT as infectious. He showed up with no plan to do much, but as time went along, Michaels started to come to more live events. Then he started to travel on the road and he just got the bug.
Triple H described NXT as like a fountain of youth. The division is full of nothing but people who are hungry, have drive, and want to bust their butts both in the ring and in the gym. You can tell it rubs off on people as Michaels looks like he's in the best shape he's been in his career.
Does that mean a return to the ring anytime soon? So far, no. But, if Michaels stays keenly involved, continues to get in shape and the right program comes along, fans shouldn't be surprised. He's already making himself available as a guest referee. The next step would seem like a natural fit and maybe another WrestleMania moment.
