The Undertaker Spotted Backstage At SmackDown Live

The Deadman has been popping up backstage at recent WWE shows, and that's leading to speculation that another match is in the works.

Apparently The Undertaker was back stage in Birmingham, Alabama this week for SmackDown Live for the latest edition of the blue brand's show.

There are certain things in professional wrestling that fans simply won't let die. CM Punk coming back. Stone Cold or Shawn Michaels returning for one last match. The latest addition to that list of constant nagging rumors is when and if The Undertaker will ever come back or if he is in fact retired.

The last time we saw The Deadman on WWE television was at WrestleMania 33 when he lost to Roman Reigns. Judging by his actions following the match it was assumed by most that The Phenom was finally done for good with in-ring competition. Then a little while ago it was announced that Taker will return for Raw's 25th anniversary show, but in what capacity that will be remains to be seen.

The Undertaker has been spotted back stage at various events since his possible retirement, and according to PWInsider he was present again earlier this week. Their reports suggest that Taker was backstage at SmackDown Live this week in Birmingham, Alabama. It is just a rumor but it could be feasible since the details of his upcoming return will undoubtedly need to be hashed out.

While Raw's 25th anniversary will be a jam packed show full of Superstars from the past and present, the revelation of whether The Undertaker is truly retired or not will be the highlight of the show. If he is indeed going to wrestle again, presumably at WrestleMania 34, then we will want to know who that marquee match will be against. Most would point the finger firmly at John Cena, but the possibility of a Sting return, while a long shot, is not one that can be completely ruled out.

Professional wrestling is a weird and wonderful industry where it truly feels as if almost anything can happen. Fans likely thought that WrestleMania 33 would be the last we saw of The Undertaker but with every day that passes it seems less and less likely that The Deadman is done with WWE quite yet. In two weeks time we will know a lot more and may finally be able to close the lid on whether The Undertaker is retired or not.
