It was recently announced by WWE.com that the Jan. 22, 2018 episode of Raw is going to be special for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that it is Raw's 25th Anniversary Show. In an effort to ensure the show is jam-packed full of top-notch action and the WWE's biggest superstars, it was also announced that The Undertaker will make his first WWE appearance since WrestleMania 33. He'll be joined by Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and, likely, a number of other returning stars not normally a part of the everyday roster.
The minute The Undertaker was announced, speculation immediately began that this may mean a role as a wrestler. It was believed The Deadman had seen his last in-ring action after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. The Undertaker left his coat, hat, and gloves in the ring, which most believed was a signal to the end of one of the greatest careers of all time. That said, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that Raw's anniversary show will give a clearer indication of the future for The Undertaker, and thus, his in-ring career may not necessarily be over.
As per Dave Meltzer, there is some talk the WWE may shoot an angle with The Undertaker on January 22nd, which could lead to a match at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans. Who his opponent would be and how involved he gets in his next match might require further discussion, but just an appearance of The Undertaker in New Orleans would add real value to the card.
Meltzer also reports that fans should not expect The Undertaker to face Reigns since Reigns has been designated to face Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at The Show of Shows. Lesnar versus Reigns is a match the WWE has had planned for some time.
Fans will be buzzing to see just how The Undertaker gets involved at the anniversary on Jan. 22, 2017. How that appearance goes will tell the WWE Universe if The Deadman will be back for another WrestleMania.
