Stone Cold did what Stone Cold does at the end of his podcast last week with Paul Heyman, and that is gets fans excited. However, it appears Austin's strong words regarding a match with Brock Lesnar was meant as a way of being in the Stone Cold character in the moment.
Austin said on his latest podcast that he didn't know what Heyman was going to say when he started stirring the pot for a Lesnar/Austin match at WrestleMania next year.
Austin said he went into promo mode on the podcast because he felt that's what the Stone Cold character would do (what a pro, Austin can just seamlessly go into full out Stone Cold at the snap of his fingers). Austin went on to say the intention of his promo was NOT to set up a match with Lesnar at WrestleMania.
Here are Austin's exact words on the subject:
Paul E kind of flipped the script on me, wanted to ask a few questions. I didn't know what Paul E was gonna ask, and he started talking about Brock Lesnar and WrestleMania 32 in Dallas. Of course, boy, I bit hook, line and sinker - Stone Cold mode, starting cutting a half-ass promo. I wasn't trying to, ended up talking about me whipping Brock's ass. Because as Stone Cold Steve Austin, that's the only way I could see that match going down. Here's the thing. What I did was kind of raised the hopes of people, and halfway kind of half-ass booked myself into a match - which was not my intention. So, at WrestleMania 32, I don't believe you're gonna be seeing Brock Lesnar-Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same ring, so it wasn't my intention to get into booking territory or spin a match or sell a match, so I just wanted to make that clear to everybody.
