In November of 2016, former WWE and WCW star Big Van Vader revealed on Twitter that he has two years to live after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure due to his pro football and wrestling career.

Vader found out about his heart condition after doctors examined him following a serious car accident that left hm knocked out for 35 minutes.

Despite the fact that Vader was given two years to live, he wanted to keep on wrestling and said he wouldn't care if he died in the ring. The last time he wrestled was in April of 2017 after passing out during a match in Japan.

On Monday night, Vader announced that he's undergoing heart surgery on Tuesday, March 13.

Aside from heart failure, Vader has also dealt with alcohol abuse as well as numerous injuries during his career. It's amazing that at the age of 62 he was wrestling just last year.

Prior to getting into wrestling, Vader was a big-time college football player at the University of Colorado and then went on to play a couple of years in the NFL before being forced to retire due to a ruptured patella tendon.

During his wrestling career, Vader won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship three times as well as the United States Championship once.

Vader was managed by greats such as Harley Race, Paul Bearer and Ric Flair.

He started his career as a wrestler in 1985 with American Wrestling Association and then went on to work with New Japan Wrestling, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and also spent time on the indie circuit and in the United Kingdom.

Vader has appeared in TV shows like Baywatch and Boy Meets World as well as movies like Fist of the North Star and The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling.

I certainly hope that Vader's surgery went well. If I was him, I would retire from wrestling before the sport ends up cutting his life short. He would be smart to relax and take care of himself fro here on out.
