While Vince McMahon may have been responsible for many of the wonderful things that have happened in professional wrestling over the years, he has also made his fair share of mistakes - and that much is obvious.
Triple H, on the other hand, has made his fair share of mistakes when it comes to his in-ring career - but as the heir to the WWE throne, he's doing a great job. He is running NXT so well right now, to the point where the cynic in us wonders where the brand would be if it was under the control of Vince himself.
10 THRIVE - Keith Lee
While we aren’t all that into the idea of stereotypes in any way, shape or form, it’s kind of hard not to believe that Vince wouldn’t love a big man wrestler like Keith Lee. He is athletic, he’s powerful, and NXT hasn’t even scratched the surface regarding his potential yet.
He is a complete and utter powerhouse of a man, and we can just imagine the boss having an absolute field day with him.
Within a matter of months, he would be thrust straight up to the main roster, and that’s a shoot.
9 SUFFER - Velveteen Dream
Velveteen Dream is still incredibly young and has a great deal of potential, to the point where many fans believe he could legitimately become one of the next top stars in professional wrestling. However, we still don’t trust Vince McMahon to handle his character all that well.
It just feels like something that would be completely outside his comfort zone, and even that may be an understatement. Perhaps Vince would have one or two intriguing and outlandish ideas, but aside from that, we can’t see it being a partnership that works.
8 THRIVE - Candice LeRae
Candice LeRae should’ve been the top female star in NXT by now, and it’s extremely frustrating to know that isn’t the case. Instead, she’s been relegated to being nothing more than a wrestler who is just kind of ‘there’ as part of the furniture. In our mind, that isn’t good enough.
For some reason, though, it just feels like Vince would know exactly what to do with her. We believe Candice has the potential to build up a Daniel Bryan type of following, if only because she’s such an incredible performer in the ring.
7 SUFFER - The Street Profits
We’ve already seen a few snippets of what The Street Profits are going to be like on the main roster, and to put it as bluntly as we can, we aren’t happy about what we’re seeing.
These guys have been fighting to get to the top of the tag division for longer than we care to remember, and now that they are there, they deserve to be treated with some respect.
Given everything they’ve done for the company up to this point, we don’t think that’s too much to ask.
6 THRIVE - Tommaso Ciampa
For some reason, we see a lot of Triple H in Tommaso Ciampa. Perhaps it’s the move set, or perhaps it’s just the crazy look he gets in his eyes – although it could also just be his amazing beard.
Ciampa is money and Vince needs to realize that, and we think he will. He could function either as a Stone Cold type of tweener, a high flying babyface or as a chaotic heel. All of the above work perfectly for him, and we’re excited to see where his career in WWE goes from here.
5 SUFFER - Killian Dain
We have this sinking feeling that Killian Dain’s time in WWE isn’t going to be anywhere near as successful as it should be, and that’d be a shame. While he does fit the big man wrestler type of gimmick, it just seems like he’s a bit too different for the likes of Vince to really invest in him as a long term project.
We sincerely hope we’re wrong about that and we’d love to see him get the chance to shine again on the main roster, but as you can tell by the fact that he’s back down in NXT already, it doesn’t really seem like there’s too much in the pipeline for the guy.
4 THRIVE - Dexter Lumis
Despite only really just bursting onto the scene down in NXT, we have really high hopes for Dexter Lumis. He has the kind of look that both Triple H and Vince are going to love, he can talk, he moves well in the ring, and he just seems to be the complete package.
You can never know for sure with this kind of thing, but let’s face it, if anyone is going to have a chance at succeeding in their mid-thirties down in NXT, it’s going to be him, isn’t it?
3 SUFFER - Io Shirai
Boy oh boy do we worry about Io Shirai.
While Asuka and Kairi Sane work well as a team together, neither of the two have really been able to enjoy the kind of extended success that many were hoping for out of them on the main roster. So then, as you can probably imagine, our aspirations aren’t too high for Shirai.
In her current incarnation, she is doing some really fun things in NXT, with her heel turn serving as a big reason for that. Can she translate that into main roster success? Who knows.
2 THRIVE - Matt Riddle
The master of the word ‘bro’ has made one of the most successful transitions from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling that we’ve ever seen, and while he doesn’t have the same star power as someone like Brock Lesnar, he certainly has the kind of following that is going to grab the attention of Vinnie Mac.
Riddle hasn’t been in the business all too long but he already looks and feels like a superstar. There’s always going to be the risk that he is pushed too hard too quickly, but somehow, we feel like he’s going to be just fine.
1 SUFFER - Shayna Baszler
Shayna Baszler has been super dominant down in NXT, and we’d bet any money that if Vince was in charge, she would be relegated to being just another girl on the roster. That would be massively unfair, too, because, like Riddle before her, she has made a great transition over from mixed martial arts.
She’s done all there really is to down in the developmental brand, so there’s a good chance we’re going to see this theory being tested by Vince himself in the very near future.
That’ll be intriguing, to say the least.
