For a brief period, it looked like Ricochet was in line for a strong push under Paul Heyman's guidance.

But WWE has quickly moved away from Ricochet time. He was squashed by Brock Lesnar in a WWE Championship match at Super ShowDown, before losing to Riddick Moss on this week's edition of Monday Night Raw.

Despite his dazzling in-ring skills and popularity among the fans, however, Ricochet apparently hasn't done enough to impress WWE chairman Vince McMahon.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News) suggests that Vince has simply decided to bury Ricochet's push. Meltzer said that the former United States Champion is "done", while comparing Ricochet's "burial" to Cedric Alexander, who also received a big push before Vince supposedly put an end to it.

This is obviously unfortunate for Ricochet, and he's far from the only decorated superstar that saw their major push come to an abrupt end. You just need to take a quick look at the many NXT talents who only saw short-term success after being promoted to the main roster.

Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura are among the other marquee superstars who had their main event pushes come to a quick and unexpected end. Meanwhile, other stars like Robert Roode and Sami Zayn continue to be heavily underused by the creative team despite proving to be main-event caliber in NXT.

Of course, Meltzer noted there could always be a change of plans for Ricochet. Maybe Vince will change his mind and give the world-class in-ring performer a main event look down the road. But that unlikely to happen any time soon.

Vince Has To Give Younger Stars A Chance

It's frustrating for the younger superstars and their fans when WWE decides to stop pushing them. Vince continues to rely way too much on part-timers and his full-time veteran stars. WWE has to start building towards the next generation of main event stars, but there doesn't appear to be much interest on Vince's there. That really has to change sooner rather than later.
