20 years after joining WWE, Chris Jericho is now fighting against his old company, as he continues to help build up AEW.

The AEW World Champion has been instrumental in putting this new promotion on the map. His program with Cody has been remarkable up to this point, and AEW has absolutely dominated NXT in the Wednesday Night Wars, losing the battle just once up to this point.

Though WWE remains far ahead in the competition, you know Vince McMahon can't be happy about losing both Jericho and Dean Ambrose (now Jon Moxley) to AEW. These are two former WWE Champions and perennial main event talents, after all.

Vince isn't usually one to admit his mistakes, but it sounds like the WWE chairman still isn't over the decision to let Jericho leave for AEW.

Long-time wrestling commentator Hugh Savinovich appeared on the High Spot Podcast and explained why Vince regrets letting Jericho go, and that he's determined to not repeat the mistake again:

“(Chris) Jericho has become one of the things that’s still affecting Vince and I think that’s why he signed that contract with Randy Orton right away, because Randy Orton was pushing the envelope of saying to WWE if you don’t sign me I’m going to be a free agent and guess what (Tony) Khan is going to give me that money.

Vince is still haunted with not giving Jericho a better offer and he’s not going to make that same mistake again. I know Vince, he is a visionary and he is not going to make that same mistake again of not giving the right talent that he wants to keep the money they need before somebody else like Tony Khan and Cody signs them up.

Jericho is among the most beloved, admired and accomplished superstars in WWE history. He brought a unique skill set to the ring, and few wrestlers could match his magnificent work on the microphone.

Losing Jericho has been a bitter loss for WWE, and it feels similar to when Vince saw Hulk Hogan sign with WCW in 1994 - which began the Monday Night Wars. Now, WWE is watching one of its former main event talents shine as arguably the top star in AEW,

Indeed, Vince doesn't seem keen on losing more of his main event talents going forward. A couple of weeks after he teased a move to AEW, Randy Orton wound up signing a multi-year deal with WWE.

WWE Has To Keep Moving Forward

Throughout his career, Vince McMahon hasn't sat back and allowed bad business decisions to define him or the WWE. He survived the departures of Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger and Randy Savage in the '90s. If Vince could work his way through losing a handful of legends to WCW, then he can move past the loss of Jericho to AEW. WWE just has to keep moving forward and not worry about Jericho and the rival business.
