When it comes to naming wrestlers, WWE has the worst track record, especially when looking at guys like Festus, Sparky Plugg, and The Red Rooster. However, while WWE had many missteps that almost ruined a career before the wrestler could even try to get over, WCW was not innocent in throwing out some terrible names along the way.

There were a few winners, but mostly WCW was best when they left the wrestlers with the names they came up the ranks with, rather than try to give them a bad name that a wrestler could never hope to overcome. Sadly for WCW, most of the bad names they used were just double entendres used for the humor factor.

10 Hugh G. Rection

Hugh Morris aka Bill DeMott

In its late years, WCW decided to create a new faction out of mid-card guys and Booker T, and they called it Misfits in Action. They then renamed all the wrestlers using military titles. Booker T as G.I. Bro was offensive, but that was an old name he used. Lt. Loco for Chavo Guerrero wasn't much better.

However, the worst name of them all went to the former Hugh Morris, renamed Hugh G. Rection. They later tried to cover it up by calling him Gen. Rection, but the damage was already done.

9 Lash LeRoux

Lash LeRoux

Lash LeRoux was also part of the Misfits in Action. His name was a little less offensive but was still based on where he was from, as WCW called him Corporal Cajun. He wasn't actually from Louisiana, but he was billed from New Orleans, which worked for WCW. It also fits his name, as his last name was LeRoux. However, at the same time, Lash LeRoux was never a good name either. It was inspired by Lash LeRue, a western star, which didn't really fit his gimmick anyway.

8 Hak

Sandman

Sandman was a massive star in ECW. While the name was not traditional, it caught on because ECW illegally used copyrighted music, with his entrance to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" being almost more important than his matches, which were almost always just brawls. WCW couldn't use Sandman, which ECW trademarked, so they named him Hak. It was Sandman's real-life nickname, but it was a terrible wrestling name.

7 Oz

Oz

It is amazing that Kevin Nash ever got over at all. He was a giant and someone who should have come in and just started destroying people. WCW had already done that with "Mean Mark" Callous (Undertaker), Dan Spivey, and Sid Vicious. However, they decided to do something different with Kevin Nash.

WCW named him Oz, had him dress up in a long green cape, and come out like he was the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. It was terrible, and no matter how dominating he looked, fans saw him as a joke. Diesel in WWE was not much better, but at least it wasn't based on a classic movie.

6 Brad Armstrong's various names

Brad Armstrong

Brad Armstrong was one of the most misused wrestlers in WCW history. He was the best wrestler of Bullet Bob Armstrong's four sons, yet Road Dogg is in the WWE Hall of Fame, and more fans know Scott as a referee in WWE than Brad as a wrestler in WCW.

He wore a mask as Badstreet of the Freebirds and took on roles like Arachnaman (he dressed as a spider) and Candyman, a wrestler who handed candy to kids at ringside. He was also used as Buzzkill, a copycat of his brother Road Dogg.

5 The Fat Chick Thrilla'

Mike Awesome

Mike Awesome was the ECW World Champion when he signed with WCW. He had a chance to take the dominance he showcased in ECW and transfer it to WCW, where the sky was the limit. Instead, Vince Russo saw Awesome and decided he should have a dumb gimmick. When he was That 70s Guy, it was bad, but when he went by the name The Fat Chick Thrilla and came to the ring with larger women under each arm, it was offensive and killed any chance Awesome had of fans taking him seriously.

4 Vincent

Vincent Cropped

Sometimes, WWE and WCW can be petty when it comes to stars that came up in the rival promotion. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes was one of the biggest stars in the NWA, so WWE decided to take a new character that was a manservant for the Million Dollar Man and named him Virgil, Dusty's real name.

When Virgil left WWE and ended up signing with WCW, the promotion couldn't resist the chance to fire back. They re-named Virgil and put him in the nWo, giving him the new name Vincent, which was, of course, Vince McMahon's first name.

3 Scotty Flamingo

Raven in WWE

When Raven went to ECW, he shook off years of bad gimmicks and turned himself into a star with his own ideas. These included naming himself Raven, dressing like the grunge bands of the day, and becoming increasingly violent and moody. Before this, he was seen as a preppy rich kid in WCW and WWE. WWE called him Johnny Polo, which was bad, but it was no worse than the WCW moniker before that — Scotty Flamingo. Look at Raven now and imagine him trying to get that name over.

2 The Booty Man

Brutus Beefcake

Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake was a ridiculous name in itself, but at least it made sense. Brutus was originally patterned after a Chippendale's dancer, which explains "Beefcake." However, when Beefcake went to WCW, they just threw every bad name they could at him. He became The Butcher in the Three Faces of Fear and then painted his face white and became The Zodiac in The Dungeon of Doom. At least those were scary names. After the Dungeon of Doom, he became The Booty Man and spent all his time shaking his butt.

1 Ms. Hancock

Stacy Keibler came a long way, especially when she finally got out of WCW and became a WWE star. She became one of the roster's classiest female stars, even if camera operators were enamored with her legs. However, in WCW, the company decided that a woman like Keibler deserved a name with sexual innuendo ingrained. She became Ms. Hancock (which was sometimes misspelled on screen as Handcock).
