WCW had arguably the best roster in wrestling history when they peaked in the mid-90s passing WWE in the ratings war. Even though there were mixed results before and after that time, they always had a compelling product with enough intrigue to make you care. Names like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Sting led the company to new heights.

Quite a few duos to have success teaming up would also have strong rivalries in WCW. The stories allowed them to easily transition from one to another since fans had interest on both sides. Find out just what caused the scenarios to work out well. The following WCW pairs both thrived as teams and as rivals.

10 Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner

The Steiner Brothers

The legendary run of the Steiner Brothers tag team made them one of the top acts in WCW history. Both Rick and Scott showed signs of potential in singles roles, but WCW kept them together longer than most teams due to how much success they were already achieving.

The split finally came in 1998 when Scott betrayed Rick to join the New World Order. Scott didn’t reach the main event scene until two years later, but he got over as a heel instantly. The feud saw fans loving it whenever Rick got revenge on his brother in their matches and segments.

9 Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

The New World Order would not have worked without Scott Hall and Kevin Nash adding the mystery as the first members coming over from WWE. Nash and Hall thrived in the tag division as The Outsiders when Hulk Hogan held down the singles main event scene.

Fans viewed The Outsiders as the most dominant tag team from mid-1996 to early-1998. Nash getting over as a face leading the Wolfpac version of the New World Order caused Hall to turn on him. The booking of their feud was hit or miss, but fans certainly enjoyed seeing the two partners go at it.

8 Raven and Perry Saturn

Raven, Kanyon and Perry Saturn

Raven tried to lead the Flock as his updated version of Raven’s Nest from ECW. The signing of Perry Saturn saw him ending his ECW tag team with John Kronus in The Eliminators to become part of Raven’s new group.

Saturn and Raven teamed up on a few occasions and had more chemistry than the average fan expected since they never teamed in ECW. WCW eventually split them up with Saturn becoming a face in an underrated feud against Raven.

7 Sting and The Great Muta

Sting and The Great Muta

WCW had one of their best programs of the pre-Hogan era by putting Sting and The Great Muta into a few storylines together. The success of Muta in WCW proved that Japanese talents could get over in the United States with the right booking.

Sting and Muta teamed as the popular wrestlers with face paint to provide an attraction. The matches against each other were even better since Sting had the top face character that made it easier for Muta to get heat as the villain.

6 Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon

The Triad

The Triad was one of the few bright spots for WCW when things started to trend downhill in the latter half of 1999. Diamond Dallas Page led the group with Chris Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow playing into their New Jersey background.

Kanyon and Page had great chemistry as a tag team since they were close friends behind the scenes as well. The eventual turn on DDP saw Kanyon getting pushed as a heel. WCW placed Page in a lot of weak angles in 2000, but the feud with Kanyon provided some rare positive moments.

5 Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage

Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage

WCW signing both Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage truly put them in competition with WWE for the first time. The two biggest stars in WWE history were now playing faces for WCW trying to lead them to a new boom period.

Hogan and Savage teamed up as faces on a few occasions bringing back the Mega Powers in WCW. They even defeated seven wrestlers known as the Alliance To End Hulkamania in the ridiculous handicap cage match. Hogan turning heel made Savage one of his first rivals when the New World Order became the hottest act. Savage and Hogan would reunite and turn on each other a few times in WCW.

4 Bret Hart and Goldberg

Bret Hart and Goldberg

Bret Hart vs Goldberg was one of the final few programs for WCW that provided an attraction. Both wrestlers teamed up for a short run as faces that saw the audience getting behind them since the appeal of two top stars uniting is always interesting.

The storyline saw Bret eventually turning on Goldberg to have a heel run leading the newest version of the New World Order in 2000. Goldberg and Hart had a few great moments like the steel plate spear, but the injury to Bret limited them from getting to have a fitting ending.

3 Konnan and Rey Mysterio

Master P, Konnan and Rey Mysterio

WCW expanded the roster by signing many of the top wrestlers from Mexico in the mid-90s. Konnan and Rey Mysterio were two of the top prospects to come out of Mexico. WCW pushed Konnan harder since he was a significantly bigger star in AAA.

Mysterio broke out as a more impressive rising star for WCW as the underdog face. The two feuded when Konnan originally joined the New World Order and was targeting the masked luchadors. Rey and Konnan found more success teaming as their chemistry as best friends played out on screen.

2 Steve Austin and Brian Pillman

Steve Austin and Brian Pillman

The pairing of Steve Austin and Brian Pillman came in WCW when both wrestlers were struggling to find the right roles. Austin and Pillman got over huge as the top heel tag team when forming the Hollywood Blondes.

The chemistry saw two hungry wrestlers having some of the best matches and segments on the show every time. Austin eventually turned on Pillman to start a fun feud that gave us more impressive matches between the two.

1 Lex Luger and Sting

The real-life relationship between Lex Luger and Sting saw them becoming best friends who loved to work together in WCW. Sting and Luger had a few noteworthy feuds with the most successful coming in the early ‘90s when Sting beat Lex for the WCW Championship.

Eric Bischoff admitted that he wasn’t planning to bring Luger back to WCW in the mid-90s until Sting talked him into it. Lex and Sting teamed up on many occasions to great success as fans loved knowing that two top stars were truly best friends. The face duo often stood against the New World Order in PPV and television matches.
