"The Face That Runs the Place," John Cena was selected seventh overall by SmackDown Live during the recent WWE Draft. Prior to the calling of his name in the second round, a recent adversary of Cena, A.J. Styles was selected fourth overall in the first round for the Blue Brand.
While the feud between John Cena and A.J. Styles has yet to conclude, the selection of Randy Orton ninth overall in the second round for SmackDown Live was a strategic draft choice. As it pertains to Cena, the fifteen-time World Champion is set to work a lighter schedule and take time off from the road.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Randy Orton will fill the void as top babyface during live events. During said events, Orton will step into the ring with one A.J. Styles. While this is not a guaranteed indication that Orton and Styles will feud on television, it feels like the next logical step.
"The Phenomenal One" vs. "The Viper" will serve SmackDown Live well while Dean Ambrose finds his footing as the brand's top Superstar. With Randy Orton, A.J. Styles can continue the "being buried" tirade as Orton has also been regarded as a top-tier talent with backstage influence.
