WWE announced the releases of Luke Harper, Sin Cara and The Ascension on Sunday, and even more superstar cuts could be on the way.

Harper asked to be released back in April, but WWE ignored his wish and actually added more time onto his contract (having missed some action due to injury). Seven months later, Harper's request was finally granted.

But those who think Harper is going to just get up and head to AEW (or another promotion) better hold their horses. Harper may have left WWE, but he isn't free to wrestle again just yet.

According to the Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), Harper has "a 90 day non-compete clause," which means he isn't free to wrestle for another promotion again until March 8. That will mark three months since his release from WWE, and once the 90-day clause expires, he'll be eligible to sign wherever.

So no, Harper isn't about to show up in AEW. This isn't a case where Jon Moxley was able to head to the new promotion just one month after he performed his final match in the WWE.

Harper trademarked his old wrestling name, Brodie Lee, a week before he was granted his release from WWE. This was a strong indicator that he was finally on his way out, and it also provided a hint as to what his ring name will be once Harper signs elsewhere.

For what it's worth, AEW superstar Chris Jericho is reportedly keen on bringing Harper to AEW. He was instrumental in recruiting Moxley, after all, so nobody should be surprised if Jericho manages to reel in the former Wyatt Family member.

AEW Makes The Most Sense For Harper

There shouldn't be any shortage of interest in Harper, but AEW probably makes the most sense for him. The company has done a phenomenal job getting the most out of talents who were underused by WWE, and Harper could be a big-time edition to the roster - especially if he were to be used in the main event spotlight.
