Knowing Brock Lesnar isn't often on Raw and his appearances are spectacles WWE tries to take advantage of, why put R-Truth — the 24/7 champion — in the ring with the Heavyweight Champion prior to the Royal Rumble? It seems like an odd choice.

There's a theory out there that actually makes a lot of sense and if it's correct, we believe was an ingenious choice that spills the beans on a major happening during the Royal Rumble match.

Typically, the WWE Champion wouldn't be doing battle or have much of a beef with the 24/7 Champion. And, the 24/7 title-holder likely wouldn't be able to lay claim to a challenge for the Heavyweight Championship. And, while Truth didn't challenge Lesnar (in fact, he did the exact opposite) it was still a surprise to see them in the ring together on the most recent Raw. Especially when this could be Lesnar's final Raw before the Royal Rumble and his time is considered extremely valuable to WWE.

The promo itself is receiving high praise from a lot of fans, especially with props going out to Truth who hit a home run with the segment. But, a few laughs isn't why WWE chose the mid-card veteran to go face-to-face with The Beast Incarnate.

According to Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda Wrestling, "The segment this week with Brock Lesnar was designed for a singular purpose. ... to get as much heat as possible on Brock Lensar because the more you hate someone, the more you cheer when they're eliminated from The Royal Rumble."

As most fans know, Lesnar is scheduled to try and outlast 29 other men in the Royal Rumble match and prove there's no real competition for him in WWE. Pretty much no one wants him to succeed. And, WWE is banking on people hating him and popping huge when he fails.

Colohue continues that like WWE did when they built Roman Reigns into a massive heel so Randy Orton's win felt more significant and the crowd loved it, the idea here is to have someone eliminate Lesnar in a crowd-pleasing moment that fans will absorb like a sponge. In other words, 'You took out Truth, now we want someone to take you out.'

R-Truth: The Ultimate Heel Builder

Essentially, WWE believes R-Truth is beloved by everyone and the WWE Universe will absolutely cheer against anyone who does him wrong. And, with Lesnar possibly showing his face for the final time before he enters the Rumble match, what a better way to get people to hate him than to sucker someone everyone loves.
