The history of trio factions in WWE have provided success in recent memories. Trios like The Shield, the original Wyatt Family and New Day have all created legacies that make them among the all-time top factions in WWE history. There is a different dynamic for a three-person group than the larger factions. Each wrestler is responsible for playing a huge role in the success since there is a smaller room for error per person.

We will look at the worst instances of trios failing to find success in WWE. These groups all lacked something that prevented them from hitting their potential. The stories range from trios that disappointed in big roles, never had any momentum or just had poor creative doom them. Find out which ones rank among the least memorable for good reasons. These are the top ten worst trio factions in WWE history.

10 The Cosmic Wasteland

WWE tried a few different things with Cody Rhodes’ portrayal of Stardust to try to get it over. The act just didn’t connect with most of the audience once it was realized that Stardust would just be a different version of Goldust.

One of the examples to add something new to the gimmick was creating The Cosmic Wasteland stable with The Ascension to make a trio. Fans never cared for the trio as Cody continued growing frustration until he requested his release due to wanting to ditch the Stardust character.

9 LOD 2000

The Legion of Doom always had great chemistry with manager Paul Ellering. WWE however felt they could find more success with a new manager and popular personality. Animal and Hawk returned to WWE at WrestleMania 14 with Sunny as the manager.

A fun return would see the peak of this trio as they lacked chemistry together. Sunny did better when she was a bigger priority than the wrestlers she managed, but LOD had a legendary act together. They couldn’t get on the same page and WWE ended the trio within a few months.

8 John Cena and Cryme Tyme

WWE tried adding to the success of John Cena by having the tag team Cryme Tyme join him in a faction. The three wrestlers would take part in comedic segments making things tough for the heel wrestlers like the time they vandalized JBL’s limo.

There was some chemistry between Cena and Cryme Tyme, but WWE eventually felt it was best to keep him Cena on his own like most top faces. Cryme Tyme would see their run end eventually when Shad was released. The comedy of the trio led to lackluster content before the split.

7 The X-Factor

X-Pac earned enough trust in WWE to lead his own faction with the trio of X-Factor. It featured three wrestlers with little going on coming together for a new act. X-Pac united with returning star Justin Credible and struggling mid-carder Albert.

The trio, unfortunately, lacked the chemistry or purpose to stand out positively on television. Fans started heckling them with the act that would become known as “X-Pac heat.” WWE eventually gave up on the idea of X-Factor ending the trio before they could create a legacy.

6 Team Bella

The women’s evolution started in strange fashion after the call-ups of Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. Three factions of women started feuding with each other. The weakest of the three was Team Bella with Brie Bella, Nikki Bella and Alicia Fox.

It was the biggest opportunity of Fox’s career, but they failed to find much success together. Fans had more interest in the trios of Team B.A.D. and PCB. The Bella Twins eventually each left the company for a short time to end the faction.

5 Michael Hayes and The Hardy Boyz

hardys

WWE experimented with a few trios involving popular tag teams in the Attitude Era. Producer and former wrestling star Michael Hayes had a bond with Matt and Jeff Hardy that saw WWE put them together as an official trio on television.

Hayes struggled as a manager and just took away from what made the Hardy Boyz cool. An upgrade would see Hayes eventually replaced with Lita. The new trio of Team Extreme found massive success together making fans forget about the time with Hayes.

4 Thuggin' and Buggin' Enterprises

Teddy Long managed a few wrestlers in the 2000s before gaining his best role as a General Manager. The start of his managing stint came with the duo of Thuggin' and Buggin' Enterprises. Mark Henry and Rodney Mack were the wrestlers managed by Long for a few months.

Fans rarely found much entertainment from them as the act failed to deliver a clear purpose and the matches disappointed. WWE eventually added Jazz and Christopher Nowinski to the group. The changes improved the group, but the original trio was still viewed as a flop.

3 Mean Street Posse

Shane McMahon’s heel character becoming an important part of WWE television allowed the Mean Street Posse to become part of the storyline. Pete Gas and Rodney were real friends of Shane with athletic backgrounds while Joey Abs was a wrestler getting his opportunity.

The Mean Street Posse were typically used to get beat down by Shane’s opponents or to take part in comedic segments. No one took any of the three members seriously. WWE removed all three from television once the trio ran its course and none would return to the main roster.

2 The Job Squad

Job Squad

WWE decided to have some fun with talents known for losing when giving them their own faction. The Job Squad featured the trio of Al Snow, 2 Cold Scorpio and Hardcore Holly trying to overcome their losing ways.

All three wrestlers had something to offer, but none had the star potential to break out as a leader. The Job Squad treaded water and eventually added Gillberg to the mix which just made it worse. WWE didn’t find the success they hoped for with this peculiar trio.

1 The Mexicools

Three incredible talents like Psychosis, Juventud Guerrera and Super Crazy working together should have been outstanding, but WWE found a way to ruin it. The outstanding performers would get saddled with one of the worst gimmicks in company history.

They adopted the name of the Mexicools and played into offensive stereotypes like riding lawnmowers to the ring and wearing coveralls. All three talents would have their times wasted with this horrible act. The Mexicools concept deserves to be ranked worst as the lamest trio in WWE history.
