The wrestling industry has seen many three-member factions find massive success together. Most factions continue to grow with a deeper list of members, but the trio factions have the charm of making each person in the group more important. Wrestling promotions will use each wrestler in the trio in a way that makes them relevant rather than someone getting left in the dust.

They range from Hall of Fame acts and talents that became main eventers to groups that just created a strong legacy in the industry. 10 The Wyatt Family
The introduction of the Wyatt Family in NXT brought the best out of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan, so much so, they were called up to the main roster. Bray was the leader delivering impressive promos while all three showed superb chemistry together.
Harper and Rowan tore it up in the tag team division with classic matches against the Usos. The Wyatt Family shined brightest in trios matches, specifically in show-stealers facing off with The Shield. WWE eventually added Braun Strowman to the group, but he never fit in as the original trio was the best version of the Wyatt Family.
9 Triple Threat
ECW had a few interesting factions during its run, but one clearly stood above the rest. The Triple Threat did amazing work together, with some real-life friendships helping to sell the faction's legitimacy. Shane Douglas led Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido as the trio all did great things in ECW.
Candido was known for his unparalleled technical wrestling skills, while Bigelow was one of the bigger men on the roster and provided an intimidating presence. As the ECW Champion during most of the faction’s run, the role of Douglas was the most important. Francine and Tammy Sytch were also members of the Triple Threat as managers.
8 Too Cool
The surprise success of Too Cool made them a valuable act for WWE during the Attitude Era. Rikishi led Grand Master Sexay and Scotty 2 Hotty as a highly entertaining faction of faces that bonded through their dancing entrances and celebrations.
The run helped Rikishi become a bigger name, leading to a career that culminated in him joining the WWE Hall of Fame. Scotty and Grand Master were struggling to get television time before breaking out in this trio. Too Cool was arguably the top attraction in the 2000 Royal Rumble match, just to show how much fans loved them at their peak.
7 Team Xtreme
Another Attitude Era trio to create magic together was none other than the Hardy Boyz and Lita. Matt and Jeff Hardy did incredible work in the tag team division, arguably serving as the top duo. Lita joined the brothers since all three wrestlers had that daredevil mentality.
Fans loved the trio, who developed the name of Team Xtreme. Matt and Lita’s real-life relationship became part of the storyline. They all had outstanding chemistry that made them bigger stars. Team Xtreme helped all three members get to the next level in WWE.
6 Legacy
Randy Orton’s WWE career has seen him involved with various factions like Evolution, The Authority, and FTRKO. However, at least in terms of him having a leading role, the best was Legacy, a trio formed with fellow second-generation wrestlers Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr.
All three wrestlers connected as blue-chipper prospects that grew up in the industry. Orton thrived as the leader of Legacy, while the two young wrestlers showed promise. The storyline between Orton and Triple H heading into WrestleMania 25 impressed partially thanks to Legacy's presence, even if the resulting match disappointed.
5 Original D-Generation X
The original trio of D-Generation X made the group relevant. As an established main eventer, Shawn Michaels united with his friends Triple H and Chyna. DX started pushing the envelope and the group's just made them all bigger stars.
Triple H and Chyna would see their stock rise to new levels thanks to DX. Rick Rude had a short run with them as Michaels’ enforcer, but they were better once he left for WCW. Michaels, Triple H, and Chyna had a short run together but DX is still among the best trio factions in wrestling history.
4 The Fabulous Freebirds
One of the first major trios to shine in wrestling as a three-man faction was the Fabulous Freebirds. Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts worked perfectly together as a group, with their performed music entrance theme adding a lot to the act.
In appreciation of their success during the '80s and early '90s, WWE inducted the Freebirds into the Hall of Fame. Despite never making it to WWE, the Freebirds have classic matches and feuds with the Von Erich family among others to cement their legacy in wrestling history.
3 New Day
New Day would experience a few hiccups during the trio's early stages. Fans initially rejected the generic face act which ultimately turned them heel. Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods all loved this change and got over huge for their entertainment value.
New Day would become one of the top acts for WWE in terms of fan response and merchandise sales. All three members defended the WWE Tag Team Championship during their record-breaking title reign. Kingston would even reach the top of the wrestling world finally winning the WWE Championship with Woods and Big E still at his side.
2 The Shield
WWE booking The Shield strongly helped create three new top singles star. All three wrestlers were relatively unknown after debuting as an unstoppable force. A combination of having incredible matches turned Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose into relevant names.
The Shield took over WWE as the most dominant faction in the company's recent history. Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns would all become main eventers after the group ended, with world title reigns coming to each man. WWE would reunite The Shield on multiple occasions, with the trio always finding success as a highly popular fan-favorite trio.
1 Original New World Order
WCW found magic when forming the New World Order in the early days of the faction. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash making the jump from WWE added instant appeal with the mysterious third man leading them to start a hostile takeover of WCW.
Following over a decade as the top face in the wrestling industry, Hulk Hogan turned heel to officially form the nWo. All three guys worked well together and made WCW the hottest company in the wrestling world. WCW eventually hurt the group's momentum by adding more names, but the original nWo trio changed the wrestling business together.
