The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania was a landmark moment for WWE, as The Show of Shows celebrated a quarter of a century in existence. Moreover, WWE pulled out all the stops to make this WrestleMania successful, although there were some bad moments on the card.

It was the second WrestleMania to emanate from Houston, Texas, eight years after arguably the greatest WrestleMania of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven. Nevertheless, the likes of The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and Triple H were amongst the marquee names that were on the show. The wrong match closed out the show but overall WrestleMania 25 was a success, with matches ranging from worst to best.

9 John Bradshaw Layfield Vs. Rey Mysterio

JBl v Mysterio WM 25

For the first time in seven years, the Intercontinental Championship was defended at WrestleMania. John Bradshaw Layfield in his home state of Texas, put the championship on the line against Rey Mysterio.

The obnoxious heel cut a promo criticizing his own hometown crowd before the match began. He then tried to gain the early advantage by nailing Mysterio in the face with a big boot. However, Mysterio recovered and he caught JBL in the 619, followed up by a splash to become the new Intercontinental Champion. JBL entered his second retirement after uttering the words, "I Quit" after the humiliation in 20 seconds.

8  Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal

Miss WrestleMania

Kid Rock's musical performance ate out a chunk of WrestleMania 25, and he still performed whilst the Divas made their way down the ramp for the Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal. The likes of Sunny, Molly Holly and Joy Giovanni were some of the names that made their one-night return.

As expected, this Battle Royal was a mess, resulting in a match that was dreadful all the way through. Some eliminations looked botched, and the timing was off. Ultimately, the whole match was a disaster. Santina Marella (Santino disguised as a woman), prevailing over Beth Phoenix and Melina was a kick in the teeth to the women's division.

7 Carlito & Primo Vs. John Morrison & The Miz

WM 25

It's disrespectful that the title unification match for the World Tag Team Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship was relegated to the pre-show. The reigning WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo collided with the World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz.

The bout was a lumberjack match, and the contest went back and forth. It's a shame that it did not take place on the main show, as it was a decent affair. Surprisingly, The Colons unified both tag team titles when Primo executed a Backstabber on Morrison.

6 Chris Jericho Vs. Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper & Jimmy Snuka

Jericho v Legends

Chris Jericho was rightfully the 2008 Superstar of the Year, and he would have hoped that he would be featured in a prominent match at WrestleMania 25. Instead, Jericho collided with three legends, Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, and Jimmy Snuka in a three-on-one elimination match with Ric Flair in the corner of the veterans.

The legends were way past their prime, so this was always going to be one-way traffic. Jericho eliminated Snuka first with the Walls of Jericho, and Piper could not kick out of Jericho's enzuigiri. However, Steamboat sprung up a surprise by putting in a valiant effort against Y2J, which ultimately led to the two having a one-on-one match at Backlash. Jericho had the last laugh at WrestleMania though, overcoming Steamboat with the Codebreaker.

5 Money In The Bank Ladder Match

MITB

The Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania saw last year's winner CM Punk, Christian, the United States Champion MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kane, Finlay, Kofi Kingston, and Mark Henry collide in the opening match of the night.

This was a breath-taking match, with Christian getting busted open and bleeding profusely. Benjamin, already a veteran in MITB ladder matches, showed his tremendous athleticism by executing a rolling flip from the top of the ladder onto the other participants. Ultimately, The Second City Saint continued his love affair with the match by knocking Kane off the ladder, and retrieving the briefcase for the second consecutive year.

4 Edge Vs. John Cena Vs. Big Show

WHC

For the second year in succession, Edge walked into WrestleMania as the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. The Rated-R Superstar put the gold on the line against John Cena and Big Show, who were both hellbent on unseating Edge as the Champion.

There were some bright spots in this bout with Show pushing Cena off the top rope, and Edge catching Cena in mid-air with a Spear. The World's Largest Athlete hit Cena with his patented Knockout Punch, but Big Match John expertly rolled out of the ring. He then showed off his strength by hoisting both men on his shoulders. Cena nailed Show with the Attitude Adjustment, and he nailed Edge with the AA onto Show afterward with him pinning Show to become a five-time World Champion.

3 Matt Hardy Vs. Jeff Hardy

Jeff v Matt

The Hardys were no more and Jeff collided with his brother Matt in an Extreme Rules match. The Charismatic Enigma wanted to inflict pain on Matt for costing him the WWE Championship at the 2009 Royal Rumble. Weapons were introduced into the match early on, with Jeff gaining the upper hand on his brother.

Matt nailed Jeff with the Twist of Fate but Jeff kicked out of it. Jeff then pulled out all of the stops by putting his brother through the table on the outside with a diving splash. Jeff crashed and burned, when he tried to leg drop Matt off the top of the ladder in the ring, with Matt moving out of the way. Matt prevailed, after he executed his patented Twist of Fate for a second time with Jeff's head wedged in a steel chair.

2 Triple H Vs. Randy Orton

Triple H v Orton WM 25

Randy Orton was appearing in his first WrestleMania main event when he challenged his nemesis Triple H for the WWE Championship. There was an added incentive for Orton to push The Game's buttons, as Triple H could lose the title via disqualification.

Orton and Triple H showed that they were all business by hitting each other with their respective finishers early on in the contest. However, some fans were disinterested in this match, even though it was a competitive one. Closing out the match, Triple H nailed The Viper with his signature Sledgehammer, followed by a Pedigree, keeping the WWE Championship in his grip.

1 The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels

Taker v Michaels

Undoubtedly, the best match at WrestleMania 25 was The Undertaker's battle with Shawn Michaels. This was the marquee match that everyone wanted to see, and they should have closed out the show.

Undertaker and Michaels went back and forth, and could not keep each other down with plenty near falls. HBK executed the Sweet Chin Music twice, but The Deadman refused to stay down. However, Michaels made a schoolboy error by going for a moonsault with Undertaker catching him and winning this instant classic ,with the Tombstone Piledriver to go 17-0 at WrestleMania.
